Sooooo, did the producers hear Master of Puppets in Stranger things and feel like any Metallica is good Metallica???

Kinda hard to argue against it, actually. Metallica covers by the 4 cello group Apocalyptica are awesome so they coulda done something like that.

More like Metallica did Jungle Cruise and Disney wants to continue using them.

Horner's score for the original movie is one of the best things about the whole film and they subbed it out for Metallica?
Hard pass.

I watched the first ~5 mins of the first episode before stopping. Then I saw Disney+ has Rescue Me, holy shit! Time for a re-watch.
Subscription redeemed once again.

The Dennis Leary firefighter show? On DISNEY+???

You must not be in the US then, ain't no way that show gets on D+ here. Hulu probably.

I......kinda dig it! Yeah, it's pretty damn dumb but it is hitting some kind of xena/Hercules campy fantasy itch I didn't even know I had.

And disney/everyone, if you are gonna have lgbt+ content, hot lesbians is how you do it :p

I like Kit, she is a raging bitch but she nuts up without needing to be driven to it. Her ego is gigantic and Eldora popped it with 2 words.

Sorscha has made TERRIBLE mistakes, just like in the OG. Seems fitting.

Bookworm prince macking on Eldoa is also fitting. I can see the YA love triangles from a mile away. 100% "the crone" is gonna be hot AF and that prince dandy will fall for her.

Redhead chick seems superfluous but she has shuriken, +5 cool points.

Miffed they "bleached" Eldoras hair. Why? A misdirect with the other redhead at some point? 2 redheads is two many but 2 Indian guys isn't? Will it grow out red at some point?

Can't believe they stole Lou Diamond Philips "assey assey!, it means stop" bit from Young Guns 2. Fucking unbelievable, and I bet they thought they were being original :p

Anyway, it ain't great but at least it has some basic storytelling bones and promise.

Damn the HDR though, that entire courtyard fight was a gloomy foggy dim mess.

Huh. I was… not expecting that kind of comparison. I rather enjoy goofy fantasy, even liked Legend of the Seeker. Maybe I’ll watch it after all.

The series is a generic level 1 D&D adventure module you can download for free off the official D&D website to try out the game. It's cheap, dumb, and lacks any of the fun, heart, or humor that the original Ron Howard movie had. Hell the clips from that movie used in the show just remind you how much better the movie was and how this is a bad Hercules/Xena clone that decided a lesbian relationship was more important core story than the title character, who seems to be phoning it in and isn't even acting like Willow in it.

They turned Elora Danan into Luke Skywalker, who was hidden away as a baby right after the end of the first movie and Willow is cranky Obi-Wan trying to teach her the Force. He even calls it a power that flows through all living things.

It's like they completely forgot what made the first movie good. The son completely came off convincing as Madmartigan's son, but they have him be kidnapped in the first third of the first episode so his lesbian twin sister and her girlfriend can lead a quest to find him. The show is DESPERATELY missing a Madmartigan character, and the one person in the cast who could've filled that hole was turned into the MacGuffin to put virtue signaling front and center.

And don't even get me started on the music. Aside from the generic score that seems to be just bought off some freebie score site, it's filled with pop music. It's insultingly bad.

The horrible George Lucas/Chris Claremont sequel trilogy novels in the 90s are 100x better than this disaster.

No lies detected, but it's still 'just fun enough'.

Big sword guy trying to convince each person he was on their side was great.

I wonder what the Knights the redhead didn't take before. A woman? A person of her nationality? A redhead (they are the Devils spawn after all)? Nice touch to leave it unsaid.

Also nice that there is no "oye, a dame can't rule!" nonsense. Sorschas inability to rule effectively in a crisis is demonstrated by her actions, no need to blame her uterus for it.

Is the boy and Kit twins? Or is he younger? The "200 moons" thing kinda sets a time line but the planet has two moons, so what does it refer to? Anyway, I'm guessing Elora is about 20 here (or an 80's 17 back when you could have teens hook up) so kit and her brother are 16-18 at the oldest? Flash Thompson might be robbing the cradle :p

All those kids with nice clothes and dye hair .

I remember lord of the rings had their costumes in washing machines with dirt and rocks to look more real. This one looks like out of Zara.

It’s feel awkward

I loved Legend of the Seeker (big fan of the first few novels of the book series too). Such a shame it was cancelled. (Not the same, but still the same, watch the 100 which was on the CW. Amazing).

I'm gonna watch Willow. Loved the movie when I saw it in the theater (and the power went out, they gave us vouchers which... Yeah....).

And if they added some diverse characters too? I'm ok with that, cause, why not?

The movie was average but entertaining and this series seems like it will go the same route.

What’s this a main cast of teenage/young adults. Maybe the series is for them ?!?

OMG Disney .. what are you doing?

So 10 mins in an we have the now token gay character, the token woman wanting into a "mans world", and the white boy is the damsel in destress.

and the dialog is horrible .. " you are so beautiful! .... no little dwarf girl .. you are.. "

I usually think people go overboard looking for wokeness in things but geez ...

I've yet to watch but dunno what gay people have to do with a good or bad show.

Because they made the romance the core of the story and not Willow.

Romance was always the core.... mad mardigan core story was 100% romance based motivation and his growing love/feelings around the baby. Willow was all about his wifes love, and returning home safely to her.

Who thing is a love story, with romance (sometimes tawdry sometimes romantic).

Like I said, haven't seen the new one yet but Willow's whole premise is around love and family.

Certainly a YA focus of the show instead of on Willow (and possibly a 'new' Willow like a grandchild) is cause for concern as it puts a new spin on the show and makes it not much of a family show versus the film. Depending on how they deal with the triangles they are setting up the show will rise or fall. A certain soap opera quality isn't necessarily bad, but I doubt D+ will go whole hog on the backstabbing, bitch slapping, cat fight, revenge sex, full scale drama of a good soap. So morose teens making mooney eyes at the one they want but can't seem to get will burn me out ASAP.

Warwick can't carry a series on his own though, he totters about like a geriatric. Even in the film, 35 years ago or whatever, he had to leave 90% of the action to Kilmer. Now I prefer the use of human dwarves (or little people, or whatever term they prefer these days) to CG or perspective shooting because you can see the immediate payoff in having Willow and his kin closely interact with the humans and you don't have that LOTR type shot where one of the two was faceless to hide the stunt person (overly tall or short) which adds a lot of distance between actors IMHO. But they are clumsy as all get out, just watching that guy trying to whittle was painful. Compared to hobbits and....err....Harfoots, it's hard to see them as true independent creatures. Hell, even the articulated gelflings and podlings of Dark Crystal were more dynamic (which, actually, would be a DOPE crossover).

So we need the humans to be the show with Willow as more of a mentor, I think. But if we get to the point where Elora is questioning her attraction to the redhead and the prince and Kit consider hooking up "just to see if we fit" and the abducted guy is sad because he is shown Elora giving a handy in the Crones magic pool, yeah, cut my wrists now.

Yeah I have fond memories of the original movie but also realize that it had a lot of so-so stuff in there but at the time there was very little fantasy stuff - Conan, Beastmaster, Krull and Willow were about all you had.
I'll give this a try at least but the negativity isn't giving me high hopes.

usually nothing but this is the new Disney trend of adding token charactistics for an angenda .. not for the story. it all sticks out like a sore thumb. Same reasons strange world is bad.

And the writers want it all to be known from the get go ... Literally all the twists there could have been through the series happen / strongly points towards in the first episode and none of the actors besides maybe Tony Revolori are good enough to pull off that kind of crappy writing.

We know that Elora is going to fall for Graydon Hastur along the way.. its not even foreshadowing as much someone holding up a huge heart sign above their heads winking.

I mean really nothing was left for suspence after the first two episodes.

- The Queen is actually Evil because of missing husband
- Madmartigan is a bad guy now
- Thraxus kills evil Madmartigan and becomes a knight
- Kit and Jade go public.
- Elora loves Graydon
- The prince just keeps being a bumbling coward possible hooks up with willows daughter :messenger_astonished:

Rewatched the movie this afternoon (still an incredibly entertaining fantasy epic), which actually made me rather hyped for the show... and I'm close to tapping out in the first 10 minutes of the show. That super-choreographed sword fight in the beginning looked fake as hell (the fights in the movie may look awkward but at least they FEEL somewhat authentic), the score sounds like generic crap that occasionally and lazily copies Horner's score, and we've got a bunch of unlikeable YA characters right off the bat... I'll try to power through but man, I am flabbergasted that they decided to start the show off this way.

Edit: I think I've found the problem

Edit2: WHY DOES THIS SHOW RIPOFF THE HORSE SCENE FROM YOUNG GUNS 2??? WHAT THE FUCK AM I WATCHING

Edit3: The song during the credits

Willow the movie was good because it had Val Kilmer at his most charismatic, playing a loveable rogue better than anybody else. That's the main thing that audiences went to see, not a bog standard fantasy story, with some dodgy FX and relatively poor acting performances from everybody else.

But yeah, sure. Strip that element out of your new series completely, and see how it goes, Disney.

Also... why the fuck would you sprinkle the whole thing with a load of contemporary speech and weird covers of modern music? It's a high fantasy show. The second you start undercutting the fantasy-ness of it, you ruin the whole thing.

Edit: just watched a short clip with Warwick Davis. Fuck me, he can't act at all.

Wait…Warwick Davis is in this? Fuck yea! I was happy when he was on that HBO joint “Life’s Too Short” or whatever the hell offensive small person title it was called. He was great in that! Lol
