It drives me nuts that they don't just take the Zune software from version 4.8 to version 5.0, rename it to Xbox music, and add support for windows phone 8.

They need to put the Xbox Music team in front of everyone and give them 30 lashes a piece.

So the 8X battery after a "real work day" with not much time to check the phone, some casual browsing, showing the phone off, had some app updates and I watched a 2 minute youtube vid right now. Took it off the charger at the peak there.

On another note.

In my quest to find a twitter client with a live tile that's just a picture of me or random pictures of people im following. I paid for Rowi. In the top corner it has a number. WTH is it and how do i get rid of it?

I know Mehdoh does exactly that. Search for live tile settings.

T-mo just announced newly re-farmed locations including my So-Cal area. Time to get my phone unlocked, sucks I just bought a Straight Talk sim. May have to use that for a month to get my money's worth. I think ATT is still holding the unlock codes for another 30 days anyway.

For some reason, Windows Phone modern/metro sync app is not seeing all of my Halo 4 music.

Thank Allah for drag and drop support.

And I dunno if anyone mentioned this before but I just dragged more than one minute and bigger than 10mb mp3s to the ringtones folder and they were all recognized as proper ringtones in settings menu.

WP7/Zune were dog shit indeed.

The new sync app would be fine if build in music and podcast management isn't such a dog-poo. They should just offer both options really.

Hmm, so from what I've heard, you can change your search provider for IE in 7.8, huh?

Still sticking to Bing for integration, though.

The Nokia-specific build of 7.8 seems to be... something... interesting, to be honest. I think I'll wait until the official rollout.

New Windows Phone Store features:

With these additions, customers can browse and buy apps through our website in a total of 112 markets worldwide (see the full list here). The web outlet complements the phone Store, which is now available in 191 markets worldwide. And we’re continuing to work to bring the Store to more places.

New Store features

...

Today I’d like to mention several more new or recent upgrades to the website.

The first is universal search. Instead of having to go one place to find apps and another to search for how-to articles, you’ll now see all these search results in one place, which should help make it faster and easier to find what you’re looking for.

The web Store also now has support for installing apps via SD card, which many Windows Phone 8 models support. This option can be useful when a cellular or Wi-Fi data connection isn’t available. Just look for the “Download and install manually” link on the app’s details page. Click to download the app’s installation—or.xap—file, which can then be copied over to the phone’s SD card and installed. (See How do I install apps from an SD card? for step-by-step instructions.)

Finally, I wanted to call out the improved app reinstallation feature that’s part of My Phone on the website. This feature comes in handy particularly if you lose a phone or upgrade to Windows Phone 8. As long as you use same Microsoft account, you’ll see a Reinstall option beside each of the apps in your purchase history—just click it to put the app back on your new phone. This feature is available for both free and paid apps, which you don’t have to buy again. This how-to article has more details.

You've piqued my interest. Explain?

I think so, I had some people come to me asking if they could see my "Lumia" and did not know it has (and even exist) a Microsoft OS.

Having the fact that it runs Windows Phone be just a sidelined item probably helped in this regard. The only clue that the phone runs Windows Phone on any of the Lumias is the Start key - on every other phone, either there's Windows Phone branding on the back, or the Windows Phone name is in the phone's name.

Goes to show how deep into WP Nokia is - and how WP needs Nokia.

It's like Galaxy and Android, to be honest.

Totally anecdotal, but FWIW I've had a couple of friends notice my Lumia and say that it looks awesome and that they want one and might get one when it's time to upgrade. Neither tech geek types. Both currently iPhone users. One of them, like me, said that they're just getting bored of iOS, iPhone 5 did nothing for them and they want to try something new and exciting and that Android doesn't entice.

It's not like it really matters, though. I'm sure Microsoft would like more brand exposure, but Android is the market leader and most people don't know that their phone runs some Google OS.

So, just dropped my HTC8X down the toilet. :( (Thankfully I had previously flushed)

Good news - it still works absolutely fine. I'm very surprised...and impressed! :)

i spoke to an LG mobile regional rep yesterday. he was pimping out the Optimus G, going on how it's the number one rated phone on Consumer Reports, etc. i then asked him about LG returning to the WP market and he said, "what do you think? are carriers selling well with WP?" i replied no. he then went on about how nokia and microsoft's partnership pushed them out of the WP market. if the market demands more WP phones, then LG will consider it but it's really up to the carriers to demand more. i said that there is space for high end phones with a screen size between 3.5-4" which are typically mid range phones. the LG guy then said, "we are like burger king to carriers, we won't make it unless you order it." so the carriers aren't asking for smaller screen phones with high end guts.

I don't like the look of anything LG makes. I will glady take Nokia, Samsung and HTC over LG.

Not bad prices as well. My brother wants to get one from Telus and I have another buddy who is with SaskTel who wants one, but they are not launching on the same day as everyone else I guess. Carriers are terrible.
Not bad? It's going to be last year phone in couple of months and they want just as much as the Note 2. Doesn't it also lack LTE?

So why can't I find the PhotoBeamer app for my 900 in the marketplace? Can't even scan a code to bring me to the page.

A code exists in the newer Nokia Conversations page for PhotoBeamer. Or use the link a few posts earlier that was quoted.

Click the link using the phone!
It's the one with magic picture show in it.

That's awesome, I just got a friend to take a screenshot of the Photobeamer QR code on his computer (he's across the other side of the country) and send it to me. Worked perfectly. Am showing him a random slideshow now. \o/

Just wondering what people think about grabbing a Lumia 800 with Win 7.5 for fairly cheap...or just waiting it out till the Win 8 phones get a bit cheaper? Will be nice to have the Live stuff + Smartglass but I doubt I will use it super heavy.

I will just wait for windows phone 8 devices to come down in price, as windows phone 7 is not going to see much developer support going forward I feel.

Bet you guys will want to wait until the 620 arrives to your market if you want one on the cheap without contracts.

Unless you get it new for under 100 bucks, stay away from the 800.

Check out the Lumia 620 and HTC Windows Phone 8S in the OT. You'll be able to get them early next year for about 200 off contract and they're much better than the 800. Same resolution, but a faster CPU, faster GPU and a better OS that isn't dead.
