Girls really are a lot of trouble.
A long time ago, NeoGAF gave birth to a game project called "Dudebro II". In the staff recruitment thread, there were many posters volunteering to be "producers", whatever that means, even though what the project actually needed at the time were coders and artists. Be wary of self-proclaimed "producers".
Presented as is.

What would've been yet another high school club romantic comedy is being redeemed by the unique angle and #realtalk. I can only hope that this show will continue to be meta in the future, because it has the potential to be the Shirobako of doujin eroge.

The character art seems okay, but jesus, the way the background visuals are... I don't know, produced? Made? Feels like the characters are floating on them

Yeah it's not great. I don't know the term for this but someone else probably does.

Cheap 3DCGI backgrounds, shitty lighting, and poor composition(which includes stuff like bad use of depth) are factors as to why the show looks like shit in some of the longer distance shots.

Some little things, but nothing amazing. Apparently the Bayonetta movie sold very well for them; HAL and Index/Railgun did very poorly. Mirai Nikki did poorly, but they'll still be doing a BD set for it. No update on Eva 3.33. They confirmed that they only have the streaming rights to that magical boy anime, and have no idea what Pony Canyon USA has for it. Nothing very interesting.

Edit: On a unrelated note, RightStuf picked up Sketchbook: Full Colors and is giving it a DVD release. I watched this recently and really enjoyed it. Kate was a pretty amazing character.

Thank fuck for both of the bolded.

If there is one thing I remember about Dandy conversation while it was airing, it was that this episode has terrible animation!

It's been almost a year since I last updated this.

Oh they're so gentle that a princess was whipping her sister while a mob of them were yelling to hang a defenseless girl.
So now it's Brave New World(Shin Sekai Yori)? I feel like I've run through roughly 20 story tropes in the span of just two episodes. All of this just feels like such unnecessary story bloat that I'm just shaking my head.
What? How does this solve anything? This is like burning down your house to get rid of some spiders. Oh congrats, you got rid of the spiders. They didn't even remotely address how they would handle the DRAGONS. It's a problem when a major story decision is happening and the writer doesn't explain to the audience why it's happening. Oh I'm sure there will be some bullshit thrown in later that might help fill the gaps but right now the characters just appear irrational.
iqNXxsQz3za1N.jpg

I don't either.
Normally I can say I saw that coming. I didn't. What. At least we got some Ange suffering although I expected for Vivian to bite it, in order to increase crying and edgy levels. I was also about to be super pissed as I actually like Vivian.
Next episode: We End of Evangelion now.

Hmm.. Lessee. Right now I'm watching Aldnoah.Zero, Dog Days'', Build Fighters Try, Log Horizon, CanColle. I'm thinking of starting Cross Ange due to the hilarious posts here and elsewhere.

Some of my favorites include GitS: SAC, Kara No Kyoukai, Code Geass (despite the crap in S2), Nanoha, Madoka, Jormungand, Baccano, Stellvia, Noir, Azumanga Daioh ... All kinds of things, really. Edit: Oh yeah, Hagure Yuusha no Estetica. That was hilarious as fuck.

Nanoha, Madoka and GBF. Nice one!

Have you considered watching Ojamajo Doremi? :)

Death Parade 2

As much as I like the arbiter stuff, I can't help but wonder if this episode could have been handled better whether it be something with a longer run time with elements from 1 & 2 integrated into one contiguous package or a more simplified yet fresh morality tale to be observed. Removing so much ambiguity just feels strange unless the viewer was meant to empathize with Decim after viewing events like he did.
Does it? It seems entirely necessary.

I feel that the only ambiguities that were removed were things that were never meant to be core mysteries, like what Reincarnation and The Void are, and how people get judged. Those masks made it pretty clear, I thought, but there still seemed to be some genuine disagreement last week. Now that's been cleared up.

Meanwhile, the core question of the story - the couples relationship - remains something of a mystery. We, like the Arbiters, are presented with slices of flashbacks into their lives. From this we're supposed to draw a conclusion about the quality of their humanity. This is a question which should be left open, so that it's possible for the audience and the Arbiter to draw very different conclusions as was the case in Episode 1. This means the stories are still interesting because we don't quite know who is in the right.
It takes away the fun of the viewer when they explain everything to you. That better not be the purpose of black hair lady. If she's just there to explain the human element and nuances then the show will lose its biggest positive trait, which was discussion.
As I said above, I don't think 'explained' everything, just things that were never supposed to be a mystery. The biggest problem last week was that the show had too many conflicting elements and it really wasn't clear what they were supposed to be going for or what the audience was supposed to think. Now that's been resolved for the most part, but the key questions about the couples relationship remain.

Of course, most importantly, this episode clearly existed to save money. Lots of money!

Yeah it's great. The actual mise-en-scence appears to be accidentally recreating shots scene in German Expressionist movies of the 1920's. I mean, this can't be deliberate:

but due to crappy recycled CG backgrounds they've accidentally created a shot with an insane amount of geometric lines dragging you to directly into the frame. The perspective feels way too exaggerated.

It's older, but the last few nights I've been watching NHK, and that's been pretty fun.

I also take back what I said about Parasite, that show has gotten a lot better and the opening song... I listen to it on the way to work.

The first season was pretty terrible.

Eh compared to the wreck some other action shows were this past year I don't think it deserves that particular moniker. Likeable leads, decent to great animation during fights + some actual gore and torture porn. It suffered because of the rushing through the material but I actually like some of the changes they introduced. The rearranged Gourmet and Mado arcs make more sense that way and the interspersed, additional scenes with Yamori or Doves made the arcs seem less artificial. And it's free from any high school stuff or cringeworthy harem or romance attempts. It's not an objectively great show but it scratched my edgy itch like nothing else in 2014.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 14:
SO the Dark Kingdom arc finally comes to a close with a very oddly placed finale. I am not going to lie I think the first anime series had a much better paced finale as we have the main evil killed in about 8 minutes so that leaves so much more faffing about while we wait for everything to go back to mostly the status quo. On the bright side since this is based off of manga continuity everybody gets to retain their memories in this version. You can also see the different priorities each version had, this one was much more about the central romance and the 1990 series was more about the team. Anyway, this would be our jumping off point with everybody living happy and the world at peace but since the manga chapters are already complete we are wasting no time in heading into the Black Moon arc and then the world cried out for the elder demon has been released from her prison once again and Chib-Soggoth has been summoned to make our nightmare become real.

Is this the fourth time that noitaminA has died?

Watching some Nichijou now (am 6 episodes in) and, despite having seen half a billion gifs beforehand already, it's funnier than I thought and the production quality for that kind of comedy ridiculously high. That means that even the mediocre jokes are still entertaining enough thanks to animation.

My favorite so far was the "professor" Hakane taking several foods out of Nano's body. It's just so absurd and plays wonderfully into Nano's insecurity!

ps: I'm extremely upset that minus.com seems to loads like dogshit (nothing actually loads to completion etiher) for the last week or so and I can't enjoy half the images here D:

Maturity, bitches.
So I got the Complete Edition of All the Anime's release of Cowboy Bebop.

For those curious as to how the complete editions compare to the separated Collector Editions, it's a standard Blu Ray plastic case instead of the fancy packaging and that's it. The discs are exactly the same. And I mean exactly. They even say "Box 1 Disc 1" etc on them. On, it also has a reversible cover.

Still, as a supporter of complete editions that don't charge and arm and a leg by stuffing them with things I don't need I thought it was best to get this version (that's not to say the Collector's Edition were that crazy in price, but this was basically half the price). It's just a pity that my support for this model will likely be in vain by the sounds of it.

That's why I think the model ATA did was a great one, there was the fancy packaging with art book version for those who wanted it and a cheaper complete version for those who just wanted the show. Though, from what I saw, the Cowboy Bebop art books were pretty thin so they were more art pamphlets than books.

This is a question which should be left open, so that it's possible for the audience and the Arbiter to draw very different conclusions as was the case in Episode 1.

That's what was tripping me up as my viewing of the first episode was in line with how the girl in the second episode perceived events rather than how Decim (and others!) saw things. I think the mistake I'm making is assuming she's right since it lines up nicely for me internally but, like you said, that's not a certainty. Rather I should be paying more attention to the notion that Decim may have been wrong.

This is bad even for Tomino. He must be fucking with us.

You'd think but I don't quite believe it. I present these points to prove my case:

1) Garzey's Wing.
2) Even when other people are tying to emulate Tomino's unique writing/visuals they can't because no one can deliberately create things in the same style as him. It's like he's an alien whose never read a book or watched a film.
3) Tomino has been consistently inconsistent over the decades and perhaps he's become more senile than usual.
4) Garzey's Wing.

OK, you have a point. G Reco is the closest to the feeling of watching Garzey's Wing I have seen from the Tomino shows I've witnessed.

Log Horizon Season 2, Episode 15:

I can imagine that quite a few people are not going to like this episode but the fact of the matter is an arc like this was not just due but overdue. The Log Horizon Junior League has had very little in the way of screen time this season and their continued development is one of the central sub-developments. Indeed last season around this time they were just getting their training wheels attached and now they have reached basically a ritual that is analogous to a rite of passage into adulthood, that Magic Bag quest that was mentioned way back when. That being said, this is the rare truly light episode, well, almost anyway. We do get some insight into Isuzu and Touya, both stated and subtle. Outside of that it was basically watching the kids gear up for the quest bonding and doing goofy shit. Of course, this is just the start of things, I have no doubt that their quest will connect to the larger happenings that are transpiring. Finally, when I said Optimus Prime was showing up, I WAS KIDDING AROUND LOG HORIZON!

Black Lagoon: Second Barrage 07

So begins the Japan arc (I guess?)

I was really hoping the thing they did with the translation and the dub mixing in the dealroom was going to last throughout, but nope, they dubbed the Japanese kids with kinda generic english kid VAs. Terrible. I don't know if they thought Rock's japanese VA was too different to his english VA (I couldn't tell if they made the english VA do his lines phonetically in the interpreter scene or if they overlaid the original dub; it sounded as though it was someone who knew what they were doing at least) but it really breaks suspension of disbelief to have a Matsuri store owner with a broad new york accent or a gaggle of neighbourhood kids who sound like generic western kid voices especially when there's already been a character who speaks full on acted Japanese earlier. Hell, that same character turns up later now a fluent English speaker! I know it's the translation convention, but when the script makes it clear that these people are speaking Japanese (or at least another language) and you already have the tracks ready (maybe?) it'd be way cooler to use the actual Japanese tracks.

Not enough shows utilise different languages well :(

LOG HORIZON 2 - 15

Well , that was a good episode. Considering the comments last week i'm sure that many will find this episode boring , but this episode primary dealt with log horizon as a whole and a whole deals of relationships between each part of the cast.

Ps: serara delusions are ...

Log%20Horizon%202%20-%2015.jpg

....those of a pure maiden

Overall , you're not going to be ready for the mayhem next week.

One Outs 1-10
This has an interesting premise, but it has really fallen flat with me due to the lack of meaningful conflict. The main character might as well be a god, everything he does works to perfection, and there is never a moment where one can doubt that he will overcome every obstacle with ease. The actual baseball is fantastical to the point of being unbelievable, and the characters are all paper-thin. It's been pretty disappointing overall, I'm not sure I want to keep watching.

Well then...that was some new level of Ikuhara-ness. I was going to propose a drinking game every time that someone says Yuri...but everyone would surely black(bear)-out within a few minutes.

Something that is bothering me for some reason about the latest Death Parade is the revelation that the whole show is basically
taking place in one of many 'floors' so it's a company of sorts.
In itself it isn't bad I just feel like it takes away from my Sandman comparison and some of its mysticism. I really need to stop wanting shows to be something they're not.
