Quick question.
Since Soukyuu no Fafner EXODUS is airing in ~ 2 hours, I was wondering.
Can anybody tell me if there is any point in watching this without watching the first season?
I've heard it's a direct sequel but that's kinda weird with such a huge time gap (10 years or something?).

...Well shit.

If' we're talking about scifi anime then Starship Operators is a really great show with regards to the actual space combat. Laser weapons are used to overheat the ships to the point that they can't vent the heat in the vacuum of space, they enemy ships die of slowly burning to death inside a boiling ship with no way to cool down. No way to detect incoming laser fire as it travels at light speed. They have to slow down to combat speed to actually be able to maneuver without splattering everyone inside due to inertia. They take fire from a railgun at 900,000km away

Story isn't all that but I watched it for the battles

And of course, Planetes is the most accurate space anime ever made and probably ever will be made

Just the fact they de-orbited debris by firing thusters on a retrograde instead of firing it towards the earth like most shows would do gave me a semi chub

Naruto Shippuden Episode 394

This Chuunin exam arc will actually be good. I like how they set it up and some background story on Naruto and Jiraiya training will keep it somewhat entertaining on Naruto's front. I hope they make it last long, though I was sad some of the other villages wont participate.

I wonder which Akatsuki will be the antagonist this arc.

Im hoping for Deidara or Itachi.

Great SasuNaru ed.

Really? Well then I will blame you if they are not!

Edit: S1 only still... Hmmm

Huh, kind of weird that they stopped putting subtitles on the BDs after they started translating the show for streaming - the first series was streamed some time after the fact (around the start of Dash, I seem to remember) using the subtitles pulled from then-complete BD release, rather than the other way around (streaming subs repurposed for the JP bd release) as is starting to happen more frequently these days.

Diebuster is so much greater than Gunbuster. Maybe it has something to do with seeing Diebuster first but Gunbuster simply does not compare to it.

Tokyo Ghoul √A Episode 13: New Surge

Kaneki Ayato was best part, Im hoping the two gets tons more screentime
since Kaneki defected and got a cool outfit, though I liked his torn shirt and shorts one better
.

Boring OP and boring ED, but the insert song that played over the big reveal scene was the best.

Better opening episode than the first season.

I thought DieBuster was way better

GunBuster doesn't really take off until like... the end of episode 4. DieBuster is good from the word "go."

I don't know, it seems very weird to do that unless maybe they planned western release of some form, it would still be odd cosidering price incentives though.

Tokyo Ghoul √A 1
The series where kaneki notices the greater bad and acts to join them. Backstabbing shall commence.
I would like to see where this goes really.

Encouragement of Climb S2 19

Isn't it the third right now? Translation error?

Anyway... Aoi got tons of homework she forgot about. Luckily there's at least somebody who can help even when Hinata is away on vacation.

Tokyo Ghoul 2 - 01

Ugh, I don't particularly like the new OP or ED. First OP was so much better.
I'm glad Tokyo Ghoul is back because I like the premise and world of it so much.
As for the episode itself I think it was alright - just alright. I was somewhat confused as to who everyone was and what 'team' they were on. I probably should've read some quick summary beforehand.

I like new emo kid Kaneki, his fighting style and trying to calmly talk, like when he rushed Touka's brother and then suddenly stopped behind him just to talk.
Now I don't remember all that much from before, but I'm preeeeetty sure Aogiri was Yamori's crew right, aka bad guys?
So unless he's deceiving them to destroy them from the inside, he's gone to the dark side? If so I approve.
Oh and maybe I'm blind but it seems to me the censor is gone/better?

Bearing in mind that, despite the differing publisher, the Nanoha movies have also had English subtitles, I've always just assumed that SevenArcs had someone relatively fluent in English on staff who figured it was an amusing idea to subtitle this stuff.

Sci-fi doesn't have a debatable definition but has many different variations. The biggest issue with folks is when something is science fiction and science fantasy.

lol

Still need to check this out. I mean I'll have all the time in the world this upcoming season since I'm pretty sure nothing has caught my eye. Silver Fang has priority though.

theres also hard sci fi which is more realistic. Lots of subgenres. So hard to pick a best one.

Planetes is the best. Oozing with space love.

Its really quite good. Great resolution too. A rarity unfortunately. Ai is a sweetheart.

Does anyone else thinks Yuri Kuma Arashi OP is catchy?

I love love LOVE her singing voice!

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes 4

Really, this show is just the right blend of original humor and referential material. Feels good to laugh and be genuinely surprised by things.

Ah, the Studio Ghibli episodes. Was not expecting references to Laputa, Nausicaa and Cagliostro all of a sudden.

Hitomi doesn't approve this anime #1

I'm only watching this in hope that Ikuhara will troll Yuri fans like that_one_episode_of_Utena.

In all fairness, it wasn't that bad, except that WTF sequence with the Lily.

Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Ep. 1-3

[...]

Which brings me to my main disappointment so far. The show isn't all that thematically daring or subversive. There isn't much to set it apart outside of its mechanical design and animation. Coming in with all these "one of the best of all time" reviews, I expected way more. To be among the top, I want a show to really try to push itself in some way that's beyond animation, and so far this hasn't done that. Perhaps that's just a huge side-effect of the build up heavy first half. I fully bet it is, but right now the show isn't anything all that special and that's making me a bit sad. I'm still excited to see where it goes, because it has potential to do something really interesting if it wants to.
You can't just review stuff half way through that the anime community has talked about for decades! It's unlikely that your experience will match the praise the OVA has got until you actually complete it. Comparing a half-experience to everyone else full experience is foolhardy!

Also, Gunbuster is Gainax's full entry into blatant commercialism, it's not designed to push boundaries put to sell units.

Israel already established as best girl. Those eyes...

One thing I really like about the show is that it gives me a bigger appreciation about the producer staff. Production is an area that I've never really had any interest in prior but due to watching Shirobako, I feel like I should be tracking producers just as much as the director.

This arc is also somewhat informative mainly by just watching the pre-production phase. The show has been great about making all the different aspects that go into an anime production meaningful. I really wish I could read Japanese as there is some great source material that cover the producer side but I feel like the show works as a great intro into that 'side' of a project.

Fuck

Considering GiTs isn't very good in the first place and is simply highly over-rated I don't see why anyone expected Arise to even be halfway decent or anything. I expect very little out of this movie.
