It really would've been if it was just about some precocious kids, maybe one with magic powers like future sight, trying to solve a case of domestic abuse. The future stuff doesn't add much at all.

That would pretty much be one of the Higurashi parts, but with a less appealing premise.

You know with all the XY having actual romance stuff for once, I wonder if they plan to retire ash after this season.

Nah, but I can dream can't I?

At least Mendou has class, even if it's silly class. None of the girls want Ataru's attention, but they all want Mendou's (except for Lum). When up to now essentially all the male characters have been slobbering idiots at approaching women, it's a welcome change.

But does Ataru actually receive character development? Not just getting serious for one-off stories but development that sticks? I mean, I can imagine that his horniness gets toned down over time, but I'm not sure if that counts as development.

I wouldn't say it tones down, but his love and maturity do grow over time.

I see him as the early access version of Araragi from the Monogatari series.

They're gonna keep Ash around so he can go to space next season and fight the anti-spirals.

Seriously, Moon and Sun better involve actually going into space.

Why didn't you get your arc? ;_;

Okay, we're clearly gonna go at turbo speed to reach the ending of the manga.
That said, this was still a good episode. Went a bit too serious there towards the middle, but ended strong.

Yo, let's fucking go! This is the start of the turnaround. I'm getting amped up already! WHOO!!

I don't mind this kind of ending for this episode. I don't think it was really contrived, but rather a setup for next time. Ending on an impending confrontation was a good place to end.

Damnit, I teared up when Kayo finally can have a normal breakfast at last. Haven't done that in forever, lol

If they do this right, this could end up one of the best this season.

Completely forgot that Detroit Metal City was out on blu ray now

bought that blu ray like groceries

Yep, that one came out on BD here a while back! Oddly enough there's no BD for it in Japan. It's one of a handful of cases where we've gotten a BD version but Japan hasn't (the other one I can think of off the top of my head is Level-E). Unfortunately it doesn't look great; which isn't to say that it looks bad on BD, but it doesn't strike me as looking much better than a DVD. I think it might be an upscale.

Folks that are watching Erased, let's just not forget what happens to
Satoru when he successfully helps someone with Revival. And he said it happened every time too, the last one ended with him in the hospital right. Not that what he's going through now with the police is good or anything, but there was no bodily harm to himself involved. The writer wouldn't have shown us that in the first couple episodes if it didn't matter I don't think. He's very likely to die this time around if he does help his mom isn't he. Sigh.

Samurai Flamenco - 02

The umbrella bike chase was great, I just sat there with a big dumb smile on my face. Hazama's faithful and unyielding sense for law and justice is so stupidly comical.

In Japan I assume?

Can't say I've noticed it talked about much, but then not watching it I maybe have just not noticed it.

Just in the last couple of months I think 2-3 people have watched through the series and talked about it! How many have watched Prison School?!?!?! Huurrrrrrr!!! #BONESforLyfe

All this Erased and Revival talk is making me remember that there was a Gundam 00 character named Revive Revival and now I'm remembering all the bad bits of Gundam 00 S2 and ugggggh.

Why is this woman single?

The emperor and his master were trying to create the ultimate evil force user by shooting their force all over the Galaxy, and in retaliation the universe got mama pregnant. So she's not single. Her standards are too high.

Even if an upscale I refuse to buy DVDs, and I'd like to support whoever brought out such a relatively obscure show.

Samurai Flamenco - 04

The new wild addition that is Flamenco Girl, with her obsession for scrotum stomping and general wacko attitude is getting me excited for what I can only hope is a step further down the dumb spiral of crazy.

pictured: a hero who can't even save his own show
The way this story is built becomes increasingly confusing for me. Things move at a remarkably slow pace in order to play up the element of saving Kayo...but this episode just has beat after beat emphasizing the futility of such a goal, and how a greater threat looms that hasn't been dealt with at all. A serial killer who targets children is on the loose but we're still getting episodes about removing Kayo from her abusive home environment . More than that, what do these actions do to adjust the future?

These flashes of murder mystery feel so meaningless. The audience is given clues that provide no insight on the characters or even the case. The arms length distance that poorly shrouds the killer's identity just distances me from everything going on. And really, it's just inescapable. Every single scene barks at useless clues or touches its nose to acknowledge Satoru's identity as a time traveler.

What are the strong moments or beats even supposed to be in these episodes? The close encounter on the bus has no positional spacing to really acknowledge how close the call is and it's over before it even begins. The rest of this episode just felt like nothing. A series of slow moving contrivances that do little to move the pieces on the board.

There's been some discussion of "cliffhangers", but Erased's use of this idea does little to tantalize a future event. Instead it just undercuts the entirety of the episode with: "maybe something big will happen next week!", but stuff like the bus scene from early on in this episode shows that there's nothing to really look forward to. Instead of the episode ending on these cool first person cuts of Kayo's breakfast we get another lame tease that will fizzle out into nothing. It's obvious to me that there won't be a satisfying conclusion to this show with only four episodes left.

You don't have to worry though. At the current pace there won't be any conclusion with four episodes left. Just one huge cliffhanger twist to lead into a movie climax. Lol.

The only way they can avoid that is if they somehow skip a dozen events next week and fast track the huge cliffhanger twist. But if they were going to do that, I don't think this episode would have been paced the way it was.

Why bother to line this up with the ending of the manga then? Outside of the obvious business reasons...

What do you mean?
Like...we have the show ending around the same time as the manga. From a business perspective it's a great way to generate enthusiasm for the ending of the manga and the new anime at the same time, but the show being made isn't even going to capture most of the manga, particularly the ending. It just feels like a super weird choice to not really capitalize on these things ending almost concurrently inside the story.

The TV anime will certainly capture -most- of the manga. If they have to cut a bunch of stuff in the next couple of episodes to get to the end, that's still not a huge portion of the manga that's being cut. If they decide to slow it down more and finish with a movie, then it will capture pretty much all of the manga.

The timing isn't just linked to the anime though. There's also a live action movie coming out next month.

This was a good episode.

Last week's cliffhanger ending was nothing more than a threat but it had its consequences which followed some heartwarming moments. I'm not sure where this is leading to but I will play along for the moment.

Clearly, this cat and dog chase is not going to end until they actually catch the killer rather than changing some decisions, keeping her protected for days. I wonder how that will happen.

Concrete Revolutio is the best superhero anime of 2015, unless Garo the Animation counts.

I was paranoid about picking Concrete Revolutio when it aired, guess I'm gonna add it to my queue.

Naruto Shippuden Season 17 Episode 450

This is why I love this anime so much. Its so pleasing. But noo the arc is over but we got such an awesome SasuNaru scene for the ending. The animators knows what Kishimoto was planning since day one, as Sasuke said, they were destined for each other.

Some canon material next week for probably one minute I bet, lol.

No wonder the only success Jiraiya had in his writing career was with his porn.
Scamp anime preview is up, man, next season looks packed as hell.

Not even that many Magical High School LN adaptations, so weird!
Up to Big Order to save this summer I guess.

This was left unsaid in previous episode and only vaguely alluded to in this one but isn't the general idea: take away Kayo from home --->get the authorities to act---->get Kayo into child care and thus, presumably, beyond the reach of the killer ?

Kare Kano 22-25

Did Gainax run into some scheduling or money issues with this show ?( Maybe Anno's departure caused it ? )The unrelenting assault of prolonged recaps and the increased dose of stills certainly makes me think so. And it's not like the show was devoid of the latter even before.

Episode 24 was half a recap and half Arima's tulpa wars out of nowhere. 25 on the other hand was a complete side story focusing on Miyazawa's hitherto ignored sister. It really doesn't feel as if the scriptwriters have any clue where they are going with all this.
