Surprisingly OK for an anime based off a smartphone game, lol. The setting is pretty much the same as the usual super-powered campus series but they definitely approached it differently with this first episode. I really like the animation stlye and the setting they've shown so far.

I don't really like the fact that they've gone Sentai (color-coded characters for their element) and there's some seriously bad info-dumping in the episode but it at least it's getting it out of the way now. It's supposed to be 12 I guess, so it'll fill my Rakudai/Asterisk slot lol.

Boku Dake ga Inachi Machi 1

Didn't know anything about this but I really liked it. The whole Journeyman/Quantum Leap hook was great and transitioning it into a mystery was even better. Definitely watching. Of the shows I've seen so far, this had the best Ep 1.

I did not expect this to be this good O.O

Beautiful art and animation. MC with beard and has grey morals to say the least.
Also seinen sci-fi must be one of the best combinations ever.

Yeah. Turned out more watchable than I expected.

Pretty on point visually, which I expected it would be, so that was nice. Backgrounds in particular, more so than animation although there were several big spots in regards to the latter. Not sure how I feel about the constant use of close ups with single color backgrounds, but overall I thought the visual direction was good. Some nice framing shots, and neat angles used, etc. There's a quite a bit of technobabble, but it's not particularly confusing. It's not presented in the greatest way, the info dump was quite amusing, but otherwise it wasn't really a problem. In general the episode felt rushed, but there's potential for a pretty enjoyable show here depending on the direction it takes. If nothing else it should look pretty.

Finally got around to starting to clear out my anime backlog from after I pretty much stopped watching stuff around April last year.

I actually got seven episodes through Kinmoza S2 back in the spring before other real life events interrupted my schedule, and I never got around to finishing it. It's pretty much the same as it ever was, from the first season through the last five I just finished up, an enjoyable slice-of-life comedy that's simple but fun to watch. Good comedic timing, nice cast of characters, can actually have a couple serious moments here and there. That said, on the second go-round, though there is a lot of new material, some of the character-quirk-based jokes do end up feeling a bit stale; there's only so many times the Aya-flustered-by-Yoko gag works before starting to seem repetitive, though they do give it some new life occasionally.

I also decided to get Wakaba Girl out of the way from my list, since with 8-minute episodes it's only 1/3 the length of a normal series. I didn't actually realize it was by the same mangaka until a couple episodes in, where I started to wonder why the art and comedy style seemed familiar and looked it up. The different character dynamics do seem to make it feel fresher, or maybe that's just the brisker pace of the shorter episodes. Not quite at the level of "Kinmoza on crack", though it does feel like it stops to breathe a bit less often.
Also has one of the catchiest OP songs I've heard in a while.
PIN PON NARASHITE PIN PON PON GANBARE

Now I can start working on the rest of my backlog. Which is like 25 shows from across last year, some of them 2-cour, plus a handful of stuff from previous years and a few things on disc. Probably a couple hundred hours worth of anime in total, all while the current season continues to march on.

I am so screwed.

Dimension W - Style and character designs make up for the "baby's first seinen adaptation" nature of the script. It's worth giving a three episode test.

Dagashi Kashi - Keiji Fujiwara is a god. On a related note, this is a good show. Good direction, concept, designs, script/jokes, and vocal performances save what is a generic love triangle comedy setup from being a generic love triangle comedy.

EDIT: I think this is everything I've watched one episode of so far this season, barring Phantom World which I mostly skimmed through before placing in the "dropped" category.

Slice of life with a fantasy RPG setting? Hard to tell if this is going to get all serious business, or it it's just going to be a laid back type show. The latter would probably be more enjoyable given the apparent setting and plot, and the visuals+music+characters lend themselves well to that kind of show. Heavy male gaze here, although I would assume most know what they are getting into if they watch this show.

Surprisingly good. I like the setting and I like the direction they might be taking based off this first episode. The animation is top-notch though the close-up and single color background is a little jarring the first time it pops up. All I see when I see the main character is Raven from Tales of Vesperia. It's basically the same design, lol. Mira, the robot girl, reminds me of Multi a bit from To Heart though with obvious differences.

Grimgar 1

I like the angle they're taking on the MMO anime. They're taking it seriously and seeing how you start an MMO in anime format is pretty amusing. The show is super pretty too which is nice. <3 Barbara the Thief guild master, lol. I find it amusing every guy in that initial group is designed to like an olympic athlete even if they aren't. Ranta being basically this show's version of Favaro from Rage of Bahamut Genesis is really enjoyable. It's the same VA too.

It's great, even though it doesn't look good.
The early arcs give you a lot of clues and the later arcs are mostly about answering questions.
Surprisingly not bad.

It loses its way narratively and with pacing, and it leaves a lot of things unsatisfyingly unanswered by the end.
What excatly was left after season 2?
I mean, you could probably find a few things, but it's not that much.

Watched Ano Hana and Hibike Euphonium, because for whatever reason I didn't watch them when they were airing.
Really enjoyed both of them, though I felt Ano Hana could've been longer. Didn't seem like some of the characters got as much development as they deserved.

From this season so far, I think my favourite show is Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R. The humour is exactly the kind of stuff I like.

not much to say really. the rule of three joke about anthy's friend was pretty amusing and paid off okay. other than that... just kind of classic shoujo? I think? maybe?

I don't know what to say really. I'll keep watching because it's a classic, but it's not really... grabbing me with anything other than aesthetic I suppose. It is a damn good aesthetic though.

Sailor Moon Mondays: Sailor Moon Stars: Episode 174:

Ami, Danger Zone! Indeed, it is that particular episode of Sailor Moon where Ami managed to download the lyrics to that song. Also, we are actually seeing the Sailor Guardians in High School and while it will never be the fresh setting on the menu due to decades of overuse it does have a different feel when High School is not the starting point of a series. Indeed this part mirrors the manga fairly closely right down to the Sailor Starlights joining Juban High. Though there are a few points of divergence as Uranus and Neptune were a full part of the clique which never jived well with me given all they had done to this point and Starlights were fairly antagonistic towards the Guardians in the beginning. Of course the biggest change is yet to fully come to the fore. Outside of that it is business as usual as the normal Sailor Moon formula is now in effect.

Give it some time. The early episodes are primarily just introductions for the characters but they drop a lot of hints that are followed up on later.

Sailor Moon Mondays: Sailor Moon Stars: Episode 175:

Well, if they learned anything from the hot mess that was Super S is that the manga dynamic was an ill fit for this incarnation of the show and The Inner Guardians being the central focus is the correct course of action. By that I mean focus episodes are back and strangely enough Minako is the first to get one. Well, perhaps not so strange as they have given her another gimmick repackaging and her personality this season has been tweaked and exaggerated to the point where she is kind of the team ditz now and somehow more boy crazy then Rei. Also, they have finally gave her the dreams and desires she had in the manga, that of being a pop idol. Well, I think that has come up before but here it is her main goal of the season to break into stage and screen and while not the most interesting thing in the world, at least it is a theme they can stick to and she actually has a personality now.

Not a loss.

One of the worst podcasts I had the displeasure to listen to. Watched this like on 3 different occasions and every time there was no good structure to it, the host(s) failed to moderate the discussion and not a single person seemed particularly knowledgeable nor articulate.

Don't think I like any of the YouTube anime personalities with the exception of DemoltionD. That guy is one of the few who puts out concise videos.

The premise isn't, but still there are quite a lot similarities.

Like what? They're both harems and they both have characters with powers? That's like everything now

That's all I see right now having watched all of inou battle and the one episode of phantom world that's out right now

This was a lot of fun. I guess its a parody of magic girl shows like collecting tons of cards(cardcaptor), cute alien mascot gives powers (sailor moon) and becomes a magic girl for the most banal reasons possible (opposite of Madoka).

The transformations and explanations of powers are so insanely over the top you can't help laughing at them.

My dark horse of the season with Galka-chan.

The cast is similar too and they're technically a school club. They're different and when more episodes will be shown, they'll become even more different but still if they it's basically the same thing so far, but in this they use their powers. If someone enjoyed Inou for the whole thing, it should be easy to get into Phantom World.

Again, I'm sure they'll end up a lot different though.

I don't mind the whole mangapod show, but part of that might be them being the only game in town in terms of manga discussion.

I dunno. I liked Inou and would have watched more (or even read the books of I could) but I found Phantom World awful enough that I have no interest in watching anymore. Part of it might be I found the Inou cast likeable right from the start but didn't like any of the Phantom World cast.

Inou, even from the first episode, was far more interesting and a lot better, I agree. I'm just saying they seemed similar, maybe just to me.

50 minutes flew by. I think the initial character introductions and exposition was a bit clumsy but when the actual rakugo performances started I was entranced.

That Babaki Bubuku show had so much background porn I thought I was watching Sengoku Collection, Yamato 2199, and LWA all at the same time. It's fucking crazy. With backgrounds like that, who needs traditional animation anymore?! Also, Sanzigen is better at adapting Kozaki designs to animation than any traditional anime studio so far. So erm... take that 2D pigs!!!! Or something.
