live action Mulan is something I've always wanted but there's no way it lives up to the original. You can't touch that amazing soundtrack.

They're doing a Cruela DeVille movie? Why? Their 1996 version is perfect and Glenn Close in the best role of her career. It even shits all over the boring Cartoon version.

Dont get too greedy Disney. Especially that live action Pan...two decades of Pan bombs shows audiences don't want that shit.
Because everyone wants the Disney version, or at least a well made Disney version. It's one of those kinds of films that you can't help compare it to Disney even if they are trying to be more faithful to the book or whatever.

Yeah a new live-action Cruella Deville film seems unnecessary but Disney does seem to like to mine their memorable villains whenever they get a chance, considering how much they typically only focus on merchandising the protagonists but have equally iconic antagonists, if not more so (ie. Malificent).

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I don't think Alice and BFG will do that well, but that is indeed a fantastic line-up.

It's pretty amazing that BvSDoJ won't take as much domestically as the R rated Deadpool. What's the current WW for BvS?

About six months ago most people were saying Deadpool would beat BvS domestic and ww. Hardly surprising.

What's a realistic worst case scenario for Through the Looking Glass? $500-600M? It would be pretty hard for that film to outright bomb.

BFG, who knows. I think that and Pete's Dragon are are the only films on that slate that are completely up in the air.

BFG could go either way, really, but I feel like it'll land pretty decently.

But it could be Tintin again, who knows.

I hope so. Honestly, if it could gross Tintin's $370M, I'd consider that a success.

For me, the last few Spielberg directed films have been a disappointment, don't think I'll be seeing this one.

That's where I see the film land personally, $500-600M. A bid drop from its predecessor, but I think Disney knows as such.

Thor is 0-2 in terms of good films.

It's not going to beat Justice League unless they make a good film for a change. Or at least one people won't forget five minutes after the film ends.
Thor 3 actually seems like it will be good based on the creative team they got for it and the cast. Marvel seems to be aware the Thor franchise sucks so far.

It also boils down to the Loki factor. That character is absurdly popular, and if they produce a good film AND have a decent part for Loki, AND the green guy stuff is good, it really should be nearing a billion.

We really going to talk about quality when discussing a Zack Snyder JL? Lets look at directors, cast, and the track record of both studios in the genre.....

If Marvel keeps killing it through 2017 and that first Thor trailer is lit, I'll put my money on Thor(with the assist of coco).

Thor 3 strikes me as sort of a "why not?" schedule filler for Marvel.

They're letting 4 years go by between sequels when everything else had a 2-3 year gap. Adding Hulk might prevent grosses from going backwards over The Dark World, but I am not expecting it to make top tier cash.

I'll take a Snyder mess over romantic comedy Thor. Ragnarok has to be THE Thor movie.

Course we're talking about quality - if Thor 3 doesn't have good word of mouth, it's not topping Thor 2's box office. Which fell short of Batman v Superman's box office.

All I'm saying is Thor 3 has a damn good chance against JL based on the talent behind it and the release schedule situation. Zack Snyder is going to have to do something he hasn't done since the Dawn remake to keep that from happening, make a good film.

So Jungle Book is looking likely to pass BvS worldwide.

It still April and we have already had 4 releases that have/will pass $750M worldwide.

2015 had 7 films hit that mark all year. 7 films past $750M worldwide is actually the record amount as well (shared by both 2015 and 2012).

So when is Congress going to break up Disney on having a monopoly on movies?

Disney is nowhere close to a monopoly in movies as defined by the sherman antitrust act. Music publishers and record labels have market shares in the mid 30s (and I believe at one point in the mid 40s). They won't look at stuff with under 50% marketshare unless it's broadcast and the like.

BFG, who knows. I think that and Pete's Dragon are are the only films on that slate that are completely up in the air.

I think those two will bomb. I have no idea what they are. Disney already had a bomba this year, but people overlook it due to the movies coming for them and the success of zootopia and, now, JB.

It also boils down to the Loki factor. That character is absurdly popular, and if they produce a good film AND have a decent part for Loki, AND the green guy stuff is good, it really should be nearing a billion.

Not sure why Loki got so popular, but yeah he's the most popular villain in the MCU, which is interesting to say the least. They need to keep developing that character and play off his popularity. I would venture to say that Loki is the best contribution the Thor franchise has made to the MCU.

Thor 3 has a lot of pressure on it. The last two movies were ill received and Helmsworth is no RDJ. I am not sure I will be watching that in the theater, the last two movies were just okay IMO. I guess it depends on how much Hulk we end up getting.

It's just a matter of time until a billion is the expected minimum of big blockbuster movies and everything under is a disappointment.

I'll take a Snyder mess over romantic comedy Thor. Ragnarok has to be THE Thor movie.
And that would be so simple to do. Just go full comics-book crazy with it (which Thor is great for), let Thor actually be God of Thunder instead of the wishy-washy nonsense, and adapt something like the God Butcher storyline. Would even work perfectly with the title. But not really holding out hope for that, because Hollywood.

What bomb are you talking about? the Finest Hours? I think that was too small for people to really care. $70M flops are only exciting when they flop spectacularly and make like $10M worldwide.

BvS made 800 million plus with a critically loathed film. If they make a good word of mouth film, JL is destroying Thor 3 at the box office.

It's gotta be painful for WB that get rid of Alan Horn, after he helped give them some good success, and he goes over to Walt Disney Studios and Disney just starts crushing it across the board. I think every studio would love to be Disney right now.

If their live-action branch can churn out more consistent quality on-par with the Jungle Book, they will be beasts.

I guess maybe because it's really formulaic, but I don't see how that's a problem when you use the formula to make an excellent film. I mean Zootopia is just a buddy cop film with animals, but it's a damn good one. Not everything has to break new ground.
