Boxoffice.com is predicting $67M for Jungle Book this weekend and $22M for the Huntsman. They are also guessing $6.3M for Zootopia and $4.7M for BvS.
$15m more than BvS' second weekend. Yeah.

BvS and Zootopia both lose about 400 venues this weekend. Hardcore Henry is dropping 2496 theatres this weekend, which is the second biggest theatre drop of all time, missing first place by 27 venues.
Motherfucker, who was No. 1? Brother's Grimsby?
I thought for sure BvS was gonna lose a lot more screens last weekend than it did.
For as disappointing as it's been, theaters are holding on to it decently. Although that maybe speaks more to the contracts with exhibitors than it does anything else?
Yeah that was in and out of theaters very quickly. Didn't get a chance to see it.Probably a contractual thing. Kinda disappointed at how botched the release of Midnight Special has been from WB though. They could have marketed that as some family sci-fi adventure.
Reminder that Miles Ahead opens wide tomorrow. I caught it last week and it is really damn good. It is less a biopic and more a buddy gangster heist film with shades of Tarantino.
It's more to do with how few releases there's been since BvS opened, and how weak some of them have been. As bad as the drop was this last weekend, it still had the 4th highest per theater average in the top 12, and with only one wide release this week, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for a ton of theaters to drop it... But if BvS falls another 50% this weekend, then we may see a huge theater count drop next weekend since there will be 3 new wide releases then.I thought for sure BvS was gonna lose a lot more screens last weekend than it did.

Thursday previews for The Huntsman was all of $1M.

Did you do that on purpose?Wow didn't realize it had a 71% drop from its first week...that's quite horrid.
$22M for the Huntsman?! Gotdam.
Huntsman cost a reported $115M with co-financing from Perfect World Pictures. Rotten Tomatoes on this prequel are at an awful 17% rotten, versus its predecessor, which did slightly better at 48% rotten.
Was a Huntsman sequel even warranted? Was the 1st film that successful?
I actually thought that Huntsman would come in under $20m over the three days so I suppose $22m would actually be something of a victory for Universal.
Well..., not a victory, slightly less of a catastrophe, maybe.

Man, Jungle Book will reign 2 weeks, hopefully Barbershop stays at 2 and Huntsmen/BvS leave a smoking crater in their wake.
It's part of Hollywood's ongoing efforts to make Chris Hemsworth a successful leading man outside of Thor because they don't know what else to do with him.
I hope this is over now. After Black Hat, In the Heart of the Sea, Rush, and whatever else- it's clear he's not a boxoffice attraction. Throw him in the discard pile with Sam Worthington.
The Huntsman is a pretty good demonstration that most actors can't carry a film. It has Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain, and Emily Blunt headlining along with Hemsworth, so you can't put all the blame for flopping at his feet.
It's sort of funny that Hemsworth's up-front pay day for this was double what he got for Age of Ultron. Him and Theron are getting $10M a piece plus back end (not that there will be much) for Winter's War.
Hollywood better start cloning Chris evans and Chris pratt. That Tom Sizemoore dna is getting diminishing returns.
Chris Evans isn't headlining any successful non-Marvel movies either.
And we will see just how powerful Pratt is when he and JLaw's film opens later this year (or is it next year?). How successful will they both be in an original picture?

I don't think actors can carry a movie any more. It's not the 90's where any Will Smith movie is guaranteed to rake in the big bucks.
I think Leonardo DiCaprio is the only actor these days who can. Maybe Tom Cruise.I don't think actors can carry a movie any more. It's not the 90's where any Will Smith movie is guaranteed to rake in the big bucks.

Anecdotal... But most older folks will go see a movie just for Tom Hanks.
It's official, Chris Hemsworth has now joined the ranks of Chris Pine box-office potential
