Wow, not only did George Broussard ask for scriped events, he asked for...

Scripted events thread: http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=23920

I just noticed he asked fans about what kinds of objects in the game Duke should interact with:
http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=502013

What kinds of things do you see Duke interacting with? It could be electronic, mechanical, or any type of item, really.

The best things are items that can affect gameplay in some way. But some things are just flat out for fun and amusement.

Some examples to give you an idea what's possible:

Microwave (fun/barely gameplay): Open it, turn it on. Put food in. Cook it for more health. Put a rat in it and nuke it.

Wall valve (simple/gameplay): grab it and turn it left or right to alter steam, or open a hatch, or whatever.

NOTE: The above are just examples. No comments one way another as to if those are in the game or not.

What kinds of things do you hope to see, both in terms of "fun", and also for "gameplay". In practical terms, there is basically no limit to what you can suggest, but everything has to be balanced with how long it takes to implement vs how useful it is in game.

I'll check this thread from time to time to see what you guys have to say. There have been threads like this in the past, but I figured it was time for a fresh thread.

:lol

Look, why don't they just come out and ask the board members if anybody wants to program the entire game for free? Looking at the board, I'm sure they'd have plenty of slave labor.

This is true... that forum is one of the biggest (and most unintentionally funny) circle jerks I've seen.

Hey, can I also borrow some cash? I swear I'll pay you back.

What types of guns would you like to see in this game? Like for example you could have a pistol strapped to a rocket launcher. It could be pretty fun, maybe. I'm just throwing out ideas here.
.

He should really send an e-mail to a message board admin and have that person pose the questions in a more subtle manner. Other than that, I think it's pretty cool that he cares what the fans think. If his interest extends further than picking their brains for game gimmicks that is :P

This is beyond pathetic. If someone made a documentary about the "development" of DNF I'd watch it ASAP.

He should team up with John Romero, that'll get the game out soon (and make sure it is of high quality).
Hey, Romero may suck, but at least he finished the game eventually. Scary thought: DNF and Daikatana (probably) started development around the same time.

How about a Broussard model that is locked in a torture chamber, and there are a bunch of different buttons to push so that you can torture him in various entertaining ways.

this game is quickly(slowly) becoming one of those sad live action role playing games.

I'm a Pig Cop - VAMPIRE! *hiss - airscratch*

I really hope this game is absolutely asskickingly good, just to shut everyone the fuck up. :lol

So I'm guessing by the time DNF comes out we'll be asking if there will be a PS9 port available and if it will use the neural interface so we can actually feel the rat explode in the microwave?

By the time Duke Nukem Forever comes out, we will all be in nursing homes complaining about those damn hooligan kids and the violent games they play.

That's what games looked like in 1998. And you had to walk up hill 30 miles in the snow to buy them.

I second this. There's a book waiting to be written someday.

Hell yeah. They'll lose millions on the game itself, but might make it all back with the book, and hell, even a movie depicting the development process. Of course it would have to be a trilogy..

Uh, have they even started work on this game yet?

IAWTP

Question is... how have they been getting funding for so long, and why are they seriously asking these things, shouldn't these things have been in the 8 year old design document already? :S

I still have faith in it. If it was crap, they'd push it out for a cheap buck. I'm sure they have more than enough cash reserves from previous titles and stuff from Max Payne publishing revenue of some sorts. Each year I visit E3 expecting them to show it. :(

As for their GDD, let's just say I know of one company that has a double-sided single sheet of paper for their GDDs.

Well, if it's asskickingly good, then we all get to play a good ass-kick game.

If it's bad, we get to laugh and laugh and laugh.

It's win-win!!

Yeah, it could be like that documentary about the Don Quixote movie by Terry Gilliam that never got finished. Here's a link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0308514/

Plot Outline: Fulton and Pepe's 2000 documentary captures Terry Gilliam's attempt to get The Man Who Killed Don Quixote off the ground. Back injuries, freakish storms, and more zoom in to sabotage the project (which has never been resurrected).

Plot Summary for
Lost In La Mancha (2002)

In August 2000, master filmmaker Terry Gilliam finally got his oppurtunity to create his dream film he laboured for a decade, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Assembling his film crew, he prepares his production in what promises to be the biggest budgeted feature film using only European financing, although it is meagre compared to Hollywood standards. However for all his creativity and enthusiasm, the film is immediately plagued with an improbable series of disasters ranging from scheduling conflicts, budget cuts, studio and location problems and worse that threaten to doom the film.
