WSJ: Here Comes 'Halo 3' -With a Side Order of Fries, 1 million pre-orders confirmed

I predict a full dozen threads about why people can't understand why other people like Halo before the game releases.

GAF is going to be unbearable in the run-up to release, I suspect.

yeah its like they cant say they dont like FPS anymore or else their killzone frothing would make no sense, so now they just attack the franchise itself

And yet you're blaming Bungie while you carry an avatar that when IT came out was posted on every available sort of junkfood. Bad on Bungie but okay for George Lucas? Seriously, lighten up.
What is a little education and awareness doing to piss you off so much? Why don't you lighten up. I am not blaming Bungie for childhood obesity. All I am doing is giving voice to a concern that many of us in medicine have that kids are consuming a lot of junk food, and as a study recently pointed out, kids think the same food wrapped in a McDonald's wrapper tastes better than if it were served on a plain plate in your kitchen. I am not advocating the eradication of junk food. I am just trying to educate folks a little who might not be aware.

I can't wait to see the first tv spot try and dethrone 'Mad World'.

That's a tough spot to follow.

(Though I think Marty could lend some audio and turn out something memorable.)

I completely understand what you are saying...

... but this will make you cry.

Back on topic.

Do we have a list of Halo 3 promo partners and a time line for the advertising campaign? Will Master Chief make the cover of TIME?

I like Indiana Jones because of the action, not the food. I am not attacking Halo. I am raising awareness that kids associate brands with food quality and hearing that Burger King is making special meals for kids with Halo branding just adds to the challenge. Adults should know that eating fast food is bad for you. But kids see their favorite movie or hero on a Whopper box and they associate that with a higher level of quality.

And since the thread is about the branding of Halo 3 using junk food, I think my discussion is on topic.

Actually, I went off topic with discussing Indiana Jones. Your argument is perfectly valid.

All this talk about food is making me hungry. And BK is pretty tasty....

Does BK let you choose what you want on your burger? I'm partial to Harvey's here in Canada when it comes to fast food but they tend to all give me the runs.

I wouldn't trust those crackhead teens to customize anything.

BK has the best fries in the business... hands down!

McDonalds changed to these new thin hard fries and they suck. Wendy's fries are plain and boring.

Screw it! I am going to BK today. Does anybody knows if they have the Halo 3 themed meals already?

Yeah I remembered about the scene after a while. However, I always associate monkey brains with kickboxing for some reason.

Somewhere, some ad executive is exclaiming - "IT WORKED!"

So does this mean we'll be seeing Burger King in Halo 3?

No, I'm not that stupid.

Bungie could slap the Halo 3 brand in tampons and I would make sure that my wife only buys those.
Being honest now, I am missing junk food and that soda looked soo good in the pic.

Eh?

Luke, is there any chance the podcast will be released today, or shall I just stop waiting and go piss about in the sun?

Yes, there is a good chance. It's done and will be submitted to the host service this afternoon. I'm out of the office this a.m.

Wal-Mart could carry the Master Chief Electric Bug Zapper. It would sell huge.

I would spend a lot of money (because it would cost a lot of money) to get a bug zapper that, before the bug reaches the zap construct, it is dressed in a bug sized Grunt costume. The deaths of these GruntBugs are recorded by a series of tiny cameras, edited at random, and uploaded both to Bungie.net and your XBL account.

Education awareness? We're talking about a promotional campaign, like a thousand other ones, and you did call out Bungie, because you made the point in a thread about Bungie's advertising, appropos of nothing. If education was your only interest, you'd think you might have started an OT thread about the subject rather than injecting it into a thread about videogame marketing.

As for education, well, do you really think that's the problem? That people don't know that fast food isn't good for them? Or do you maybe think they're fully aware and just don't give a crap, the same way they know cigarettes, booze, and driving fast are bad but just don't give a crap. If doctor's think the reason people eat fast food is that they don't know any better, it makes me worry for our doctors. People eat fast food because it's cheap and full of fat, salt, and suger -- the very things our savanna-evolved bodies crave.

Is it okay to want to buy it for the Believe tagline and not because it has Master Chief on it?

Who was the outbreak monkey?

The person who posted "believe" in the first place?

Frankie wants to put Gahiggidy in the credits! Gahiggidy dies of shame after having his username in a Microsoft game =(

I got the new Gamepro today. There's almost nothing new.

There's some details on how the Grunts are tougher, though.

A lack of physcial education, a sedentary lifestyle, and poor eating habits are what pediatricians and others medical groups state are the leading causes of childhood obesity. As I posted earlier, young children associate "better" with branding even if what they deem as better is actually the same. Education and making children and adults aware of the risks associated with fast food consumption is what practitioners and researchers are tasked with doing with public funded research projects and so yes, that is my interest in this.

Microsoft's decision to use fast food as a vehicle for marketing Halo 3 is the topic of this thread. Movies have been subjected to the same criticism I am presenting. People come into to see a physician for injuries and illnesses resulting from behavior far dumber than eating fast food. So, yes, I think education at any level can only be helpful. And if game companies want to market their games to kids using fast food, then they need to be prepared for the criticisms.
