WSJ: Here Comes 'Halo 3' -With a Side Order of Fries, 1 million pre-orders confirmed

Oops. Must be that cup of bisque I just had for breakfast.

Yeah, so we're at one million preorders and MS's marketing campaign hasn't even started yet. That'll be when kids like my little brother will eat BK and see the advertisements and talk their parents into preorder/buying the game for them.

Well the BK campaign begins on September 24th.

Also, the commercials, theatrical teasers, and Linkin Park/MCR promotions. There are a lot of people that don't care about this game right now that will care about it very soon.

Bungie's idea of world domination is making everybody obese off 90% sugar drinks and fat grilled fat.

Couple with the untold hours in front of a television set getting blasted with subliminal messages, Clockwork Orange style, the nation's youth will be ripe for the plucking, like little fat, lazy berries. Or oranges. I don't know where I'm going with this.

I predict a full dozen threads about why people can't understand why other people like Halo before the game releases.

GAF is going to be unbearable in the run-up to release, I suspect.

To make it more bearable, just ignore them. It'll be better for all parties. ;)

That wouldn't surprise me.

I guess it's sort of understandable to be pissed off around Halo 3 launch if you don't like Halo, when something big is going on and you want no part of it but can't get away from it, it's understandable to be grumpy. I was that way when Harry Potter came out. Of course, I didn't make threads about it.

Well people have been damage controlling it for a year+ now already. It's going to be a madhouse come launch. I expect the same thing for MGS4 / Killzone 2 on the other side of the fence.

I'm going to go into all of those threads and make some additions to my Ignore List so I'm all prepared for launch.

Today, Microsoft Corp. announced that preorders in North America for the exclusive Xbox 360™ title have exceeded the 1 million milestone.

I'd assumed the one million pre-orders were world-wide. It's NA alone. 0_o

I'm starting to think day one unit sales will eclipse Halo 2, despite the smaller installed base.

How many do they have to shift to cover the ad budget alone?

Spiderman 2 ad budget was 40 million

Halo 3 + limited + ultimate edition sells for average of 75$

75x1 million pre orders = 75 million $ ATLEAST for Halo 3. ATLEAST 60$million of those go directly in MS's pocket,

Halo 3 ad budget will be wiped clean in 1 day max

Can't help but lament the fact that there aren't any private chat rooms with multiple users on Xbox Live. I would love to cozy up to this game with 3 or more friends on private chat.

wait for the 360 sales jumping in September

That's not really so much a guarantee as it is a pretty vague prediction. A guarantee would be you saying that if it doesn't make a certain number of sales, you'll do something special. I suggest dessing up like Cortana.

Completely off topic and yes, we all know.

I think that Halo3 will set a new sales record. The 360 owner seems to be buying games like crazy.

For example, what did Gears of war do in it first days? Wasn´t it like 1.5 million? or in the neighbourhood? This was a new IP.. Halo is an established one.

So a big franchaise + MS marketing blitz = a new record.
But still, the game is released in late september, then we have november and december sales which always drives the numbers up the wazooo.. This game will make money for MS.. no doubt about it..

wait, this is just North America alone?! good god....I hope they make enough Legendary Editions to go around.

You're forgetting the fact that this is Halo.

Xbox is Halo, Halo is Xbox, to a lot of people.

that is what I mean..
GoW managed to get really good sales despite being a new IP. Halo3 will trounce everything..
The Halo2 record should be shattered.. :D

Mass Effect is supposed to get a budget similar to Gears. Halo will be on another plane of existence though.

How is working with Microsoft? You’ve worked with them before, and you’ve done a lot of different projects with different groups.

Ray Muzyka: I have nothing but good thing to say about them. They really do care about the games developed for the system that they want to be showcases. They want them to be stand-out titles, and they’re doing everything they can to support us. They contribute resources on the dev side to help us get the max out of the hardware. The marketing and PR folks are working hard to maximize the outreach, and that’s going to ramp up really big in just a short period. The fans are going to start seeing more assets and cool stuff. I think they’re a great publisher. The good thing about being first-party is that you have the commitment from the hardware manufacturer themselves to maximize the return on the game.

You look at what they did for Gears of War last year, and they’re planning a sort of similar thing for Mass Effect this year, and it’s great to be part of that.

Jesus. And then you've got young go getters like PGR4, Bioshock, Blue Dragon. (I still don't believe Lost Odyssey will be out this year, but...)

Wow.

Microsoft says it has sold a combined 14.8 million copies of the first and second installments of Halo since the original game's release in 2001.

As of July 25, 2007, all versions of Nintendogs combined have sold 14.79 million copies worldwide,
Funny. Nintendogs movie + huge marketing blitz confirmed?

Hmm what a waste. I fucking hate Burger King. Well I love The King, but the food sucks.

Last time I actually ate there was for the BK 360 games. Luckily I only had to eat there once to get all three of them.

Load up Halo 3, kill some Grunts and Brutes and then stand around near the waterfall in Sierra 117 for a nice chat. Lovely view, full voicechat throughout.

As one who is concerned about the obesity epidemic in this country, I see Halo 3 on the side of a large soda and large order of fries and all I see is a fat video gamer's blood vessels choked with fat and cholesterol as he fights off early stages of diabetes and hypertension. Considering the hero of Halo 3 is a soldier who is in peak physical condition, I find it ironic that fast food is the chow of choice for Halo fans and promoters.

I will purchase diet soda, eat only half the fries and purchase them with a grilled chicken sandwich.

Maybe I'll eat all the fries, if I'm hungry.

I really can't think of any successful videogame promotions that ever happened at Subway.

Lighten up, Francis.

Ignorance is bliss. And as a medical professional seeing 12 year olds with high blood pressure, I am doing my civic duty to remind people to eat fast food as a treat and not as your main source of nutrition.

Or start a private multiplayer match and hold a group meeting in the virtual conference room with 16 people.

And yet you're blaming Bungie while you carry an avatar that when IT came out was posted on every available sort of junkfood. Bad on Bungie but okay for George Lucas? Seriously, lighten up.

Can't wait until that Indiana Jones Burger King promotion... you know it's going to happen.

Eh?

Luke, is there any chance the podcast will be released today, or shall I just stop waiting and go piss about in the sun?
