XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

Aureon

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
RNG is unpredictable, I've had soldiers get shot and killed behind full cover, I don't know how people expect not to get anyone shot in XCOM.

Proper concealed scouting & grenades.
I'll take a good shot over a medic any day of the week. Two grenades will do a lot more good, especially considering wounded soldiers still get gravely wounded anyway.

When shit happens, keep the wounded soldier at the back \ high cover, and EVAC inplace if you're in panic.

Question: I was doing prep work before the final series of missions and had a squad wipe(got 3 pods at once after pulling one that was visible and two more appeared afterward). 4 of my squad members were knocked unconscious(in one blow each), is it possible to recover them in a lucky VIP mission? Wish I brought my medic on that mission. Would've at least been able to wake my unconscious people then.

Well i finally did it, last mission on commander difficulty took me 3 hours and was utterly insane at the end. Got myself the Untouchable achievement, really enjoyed this game and that ending, cannot wait till the next expansion pack or XCOM 3, best fun in gaming i have had in years, now for Ironman Legend after a good nights sleep.

I want to try running 6 maxed out Rangers. Would be pretty fun I think. Or maybe 4 Rangers 2 Snipes. Then add in some Exo and War suits to round out some offense and defensive capabilities.

Max fun with good challenge and least gamey /cheesing I think will be Commander, no MBacon, no PSI. I love the purity of relying on "standard" tactics. Someone should make a new JA with a heavy dose of influence from this game without all the hardcore inventory management.

Second time playing the last mission. What a cakewalk. I was overprepared maybe.
My team: 1 sharpshooter, 2 psi, 1 grenadier, 1 medic specialist. And a gatekeeper joined us along the way.
We murdered everything in the last room. No survivors.

96 hours. I guess it's time to play something else.

Welp, I'm done with this game.

It's terrible because I really love XCOM 2. Nothing delivers gameplay quite like it, and it's a huge improvement over EW to me. But goddamn I can't end a mission without the screen getting stuck between loading the returning ship cutscene. Not to mention the terrible performance overall. If this was near endgame I'd be fine with it but I only just finished the Shadow Chamber and suddenly all the menus are broken because the buttons disappear when I hover over them.

Sorry Gaf-Com, you were great soldiers but we won't be seeing the end of this fight.

Tried verifying the game files through Steam?

Question about late game story mission
Just got to the radio tower mission to stop the Advent transmission. It seems like I can continue to run the clock, and avoid this mission until I'm ready. Is that in fact the case, or will I be screwing myself by taking the time to heal and prep up?

That is, indeed, the case. Finish your researchs, gear up properly. Go when ready.

No improvements, although it did let me get back to the ship to save there.

Dunno why you wouldn't just wait for a patch or two instead of writing it off completely.

Because it'll be a month or two at least before that happens. And hey, maybe if it does actually fix everything I'll jump back in, but I just have a bad feeling that this runs deep and will take a long time.

Glitches are no longer cool?

Sadly when they become game breaking, they are no longer cool. It's actually hilarious how often my name is just straight up wrong.

Relevant username but really that sucks, have you tried maybe reinstalling as a last effort? Or verify the game files?

That mission will throw you straight into the final mission. Nation loyalty etc doesn't mean a thing at that point so I'd charge up your troops and head in. Point of no return, no real point in continuing to build things up unless you're missing some equipment - the game ends immediately after both missions

I finally got the blaster bomb today. Amazing as always. I think it has even more range in this game.

I kinda actually was less impressed with it. The wonderful aim is a great bonus, but its damage output and the target area is not nearly as cool as I want.

For all the talk about how great demolition experts are, a heavy gunner with bluescreen rounds (or another type for organic), a scope, and an aim PCS just chews through the toughest enemies in the game, or at the least makes them easy pickings for the rest of the squad to mop up. Enemy too far away to get a good shot on it? Hail of bullets for a 100% chance to hit, holo targeting, and shred armor. Something up close or mid range (sniper like aim with scope/PCS)? Chain shot to rip armor off, holo target, then finish it off with another shot. Oh oh, those are both on cooldown and a Sectopod is in my face. Guess I'll rupture, shred armor, holo target, and get a massive crit on it. Ayy LMAO.

It's unreal how that side of the tree has more and better abilities than most all the classes end game abilities put together.

My star Grenadier rolled Rapid Fire in the AWC. She was otherwise a total Bullet Wizard build with the entire right side, but she got stuck in a retraining to swap out Chain Shot for Salvo, because well, yeah.

So, she meets a Sectopod. 1st action: EMP Bomb. 2nd Action. Rapid Fire with Bluescreen Rounds. That's two thirds of a Sectopod down. I actually never saw what a Sectopod could do in my firs game. They never got a turn. Same with Gatekeepers. EMP, Rapid Fire. What Gatekeeper?

That combination is disgustingly powerful, but she did get one lucky AWC roll there.

Nice, sounds fun. The AWC loves throwing run and gun at me it seems.

I felt powerful in this game one day, too. Like I could take on all the aliens with a Gunslinger and a mimic beacon.

Legend has broken me. There is only death in the battlefield.

My AWC rolls have not been particularly great, at least long term. My ranger got puncture, which was awesome, until I got rapid shot which takes up 1 less shot and has no cooldown. Puncture still has its uses but rapid shot is likely to kill and potentially crit on one of the shots so the damage potential is much higher.

I seem to get that conceal one quite often... which is mediocre although useful. Once on a long range sniper and that sucked.

I got killzone for another ranger, whom I equipped an assault rifle, but since it takes 2 actions, it is hard to get into great positioning to make it work well. And when it does, I seem to miss too often. Would have been awesome on a specialist with the overwatch aim buff.

That don't miss grenadier shot... worth it on anything apparently.

Not too much baller combos, unfortuneately. At least puncture was pretty hot for a while.

Hah, I may give it a shot after they patch the game up, but I'm having fun with my power trip on commander for now.

Turn 3. No enemies found.
Panic intensifies.

Wait until you get to Turn 6 and still no enemies, then when you're all set up to take out the relay a pod wanders into view and sets off a chain reaction that activates all 11 enemies on the map at once.

That was a fun mission.

Na that's why I have 5 mimic beacons. I'm on legendary Ironman, have been intercepted by the UFO, did the black site, downed two facilities and multiple VIP missions without losing a soldier.

xcom is a game about finding new enemies and going 'what does that enemy do?' and then going "OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK" and eventually instead it becomes a game about finding new enemies and wiping them the fuck out before they get a chance to show off because fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that

And for some people, it becomes an LSD trip at the end

Panic intensifies.

8 round timed mission.
Small map.
13 enemies reported by the shadow chamber.
Only see a pod of two for the first three turns.

Heavy breathing.

You shouldn't have to dial up to Ironman Legend to have a consistent difficulty curve.

You know, I'd normally be with you but after playing Darkest Dungeon I do have to pause. Consistent or ramping difficulty can turn this style of game into a large grind fest, especially if a lose is represented by a large resource or time investment. So, like, having a magus level psi-op die is pretty bad considering how long it takes to train one up. If the game were consistently hard or even harder the closer you got into the late game, I have to wonder how much they would have to readjust the avatar project timer (lol) or global time pressure as I suspect the game could turn into a very long grind fest.

Not to say I outright disagree. I think there's more to Darkest Dungeon which makes it really grindy than just its difficulty curve. But I don't think it's something that the developers ignored.

Now that I think about it the faceless corpses should've made a suit that has a one-use ability that forces enemies to ignore a single unit for a turn or something

I really should never have bothered with Ironman.

I've started and abandoned two campaigns now due to botched missions. Yes, I could keep going, but fuck that! I have no idea how people continue with total squad wipes. Completely kills my enthusiasm for that campaign. Have absolutely no interest after that.

Just going to stick with a Veteran normal run to save myself those headaches. It's just not for me.

Edit: Also, lost a squad member due to a stun lancer critting for their entire max HP bar. The hell is that? Doesn't feel right at all. I'm beginning to see why people hate timed missions.

: Snipers are a liability.

Seriously, my current campaign has gone THAT MUCH smoother just outright ignoring Sharpshooters, and going full Gunslinger for what Sharpshooters I do bother with. Having six frontline troops who can act in the here and now instead of having to pre-plan all their actions has been the single greatest boon my squad has gotten. Especially so because of all these time-limited set-extract missions.

Gonna miss those moments I used to have where I'd have my last man - A sniper - be kiting enemies around the map in a mad-dash for the extract or waiting for my Request Extract cooldown to finish though. Had some interesting moments doing that.

Oh completely agreed, especially with Ammo which compliments gunslingers much more than snipers. Gunslingers simply are better than snipers due to their adaptiveness. Especially on harder difficulties.

Snipers are ballers though. I've never had trouble managing snipers on the timed missions. If anything, they're huge benefit when you have killzone or serial.

--

My luck tonight... I don't know how many flanked and overwatch shots I've missed. The mission results screen lies of course, counting grenades as a shot that hits multiple enemies. I've never had this bad of luck before in this game, at least not mission after mission.

Snipers are knocked down several pegs because of the timed missions. On non-timed missions though, they're very useful, indeed.

My gunslinger is my second best soldier, after my blademaster ranger. They're both so adaptable. Gunslingers with bluescreen ammo are OP against machines.

I use long watch and killzone from the sniper tree. The rest is pistoleiro.

Long watch is amazing with your concealed ranger for the safest possible activation of a pod and killzone for when everyone is in concealement.

And of course, with Long Watch and Killzone, you can activate AND wipe out a pod in one turn! Especially with a patrolling ranger.
