I just realised how weird it is for weapon mods to auto-equip into new tiers, like coventional to magnetic, etc. Seems counter to what the game is about normally.

I avoided using weapon mods for the longest time because I thought they wouldn't carry over.
 
This playthrough is strange with the ability to have 3 mod slots, and being able to reuse them (and PCS). It kinda feels like that's how it should normally work.
 
Anyone know how to fix the bug with the PCS menu being inaccessible? I know for certain I have PCS's in my inventory, but I can't get into the menu.

Anyone having a glitch where animations won't play for enemies? Happened after a sectoid ran through a roof they were standing on and they fell. Kind of jarring and hard to play with.

I love it when the aliens shoot at the objective that needs protection when you're in range, even if your soldiers are not in cover. And it's fucking infuriating when they do it twice in one turn.

Seems to consistently happen for me if the floor is destroyed out from under a unit and they fall onto a tile that isn't supposed to be navigable.

Yeah, I was dreading the upgrade.

Yeah. Previously I would save most items (RPG hoarder here) until the end, but I find myself using them the entire game this time, swapping weapons between characters, and trying different character customization with PCS.

Finally had my copy show up in the mail today.

I... I'm sorry Falk. My greed got you killed on the very first mission. You took a hit from an Advent Officer early in the mission leaving you at 1HP. There was only one trooper left active. I moved you up into heavy cover and set you on overwatch. I had another soldier flanking the trooper, but couldn't shoot on that turn. He ran out of cover, triggering your overwatch shot, but you missed. His return fire didn't. I should have had you hunker down! ;_;

On the bright side, I managed to save Rentahamster from being mind controlled later in that mission. Jerkface gravely wounded my squaddie with an overwatch shot when she rushed the sectoid though. :/

Is MP hot garbage for everybody? It's taking 40 minutes to play out an 8-turn game (90 second turns) because the timer just goes on FOREVER for no reason. Even when I finish a turn in like 20 seconds and click End Turn like a madman, it just clicks down to 0, then continues sitting there. I'm on a fast connection in the US, makes no sense that high-impact shooters with 64 players are no problem but a 2-player turn-based game is just busted.

Hunkering means admitting defeat.

Beat the game. That last mission 0_0.

Miraculously didn't lose anyone. A 30% chance sniper shot saved the world.
He was the last one who had a shot left on the last Avatar and I was pretty much completely overwhelmed at that point too. Would've lost some peeps the next turn.

19 soldiers lost their lives in my Ironman Commander campaign. It was for a good cause.
 
Hunker down? When the choice comes up between looking like a kitty cat napping, or shooting and looking like Arnold from Commando, I hope you do the right thing.

Decided to finally purchase it...

I am excited! I doubt I'll play it since I'll be too busy making my soldiers look like bad asses before they shoot anything.

I pre-ordered the game and I think I literally spent the first two hours making soldiers in the Character customization part of the game lol

Doesn't matter, they all have a high probability of dying horribly/being taken prisoner by the aliens. And they probably can't shoot straight.
 
I find the reload animation satisfying.

YES. YES YOU DID USE ALL THAT AMMUNITION!


The only thing more satisfying is using the coventional pistol/revolver. So awesome.

What do you mean
For example, after a large firefight, I am low on ammo and want to reload, so I press r, tab, r, tab, r, tab, etc. Unlike EU, which did all the soldiers' reload animations together, in XCOM2, I gotta wait for each one to finish before the next one starts.

I've been thinking about an reload mod that skips the animation. Hopefully it exists?

I dunno. I hope so. I use the overwatch all mod and the evac all mod, and those are godlike.
 
So this just happened. I am playing through commander difficulty, with ironman, and a couple mods to make it much more difficult. And I am on avenger defense and I lost. The game gives you the option to restart the mission, even on ironman. I decided to do that today, because I liked the run and was in the bad position I am in only because of a couple weird things happening on the prior mission anyway.

Okay, so the point of this little anecdote is that after I restarted the mission, none of my soldiers had any ability icons. I had all of the activated icons still on their action bars. Everything seemed to work out fine, until my ranger was killed, despite the fact she killed an enemy the previous round (with a direct hit, not collateral damage) and she has the perk that makes the first shot against her a non-hit. She also has implacable, which lets you move after getting a kill. Neither of them activated.

I tried loading the save to see if it would change anything. I tried wiping the team to restart the mission again and nothing changed.

I am just going to start the campaign over. But take this as a warning, especially for bronzeman runs, that restarting the mission seems to screw things up. Better to just load from a previous save.

tl;dr: After failing critical mission (avenger defense for example), load previous save, don't restart mission as it causes issues from my experience)

mid-game spoilers:

Well this is weird, I skulljacked a codex to pop the avatar, and I noticed the skull jack option was still open on my second Specialists (I have 2 Specialists and encountered 2 Codexes in a single pod), so I skulljacked the second Codex to see what would happen.

Another Avatar popped, so now I have to deal with 2 of 'em at the same time omg.

Oh, and the second Specialists running over to Jack the codex aggroed a Sectopod :/

I guess in all their time on earth, the Aliens never got around watching Seven Samurai? If they did, they wouldn't have fallen for my corridor-trap on the final stage, over and over and over again.
 
Just finished my first campaign on Veteran. Damn, it was a lot of fun but I don't know how people can beat this on harder difficulties. Seems like quite the insane task. I'll have give it a shot sometime soon.

So this may be really weird to spoiler tag but I'm doing it anyway to be safe. It's a question about recruiting a special solider at HQ.

Does anyone know if anything special happens if you recruit Bradford as soldier? I had the chance once but never did because I didn't have the supplies for it. Just seems like it could be kind of funny if there were two of them running around in the cut scenes and stuff. Better yet, would be hilarious if you could get a whole squad of Bradfords.

I hear you can have Bradford in your squad and get him killed, and Bradford will continue to complain on the radio about civilians.

The game is so tough right now.

I had to let new mexico go because everyone e as wounded. I am swimming in supplies, but I can't spend it to fix my issues (rookies won't help me now and more experienced people is just once a month).

Time is the biggest issue. Everything takes so long. Plasma grenades are coming and bluescreen protocol is queued after it. Psi lab is waiting for a new power relay to finish.

I am holding xcom together with spit and duct tape by now. Bradford started drinking. Shen is so paranoid she filled the avenger with cameras and patrolling gremlins. Tygan is seen requesting corpses for research, but he locks himself up in the lab and no one knows what is going on there.

The soldiers started a drama group and every time someone dies, they make the entire crew watch a play about it. It is always the same story about a frog talking to god, but we have to watch it every time.

Sometimes I hear this ship laughing at me.

But by the goddess, we shall prevail.

Ooh, you got Rapid Fire on your Sniper? Does that work after a move?

I got Rupture on my Sniper in one of my games, but I don't think I tested whether it would work even after moving.
