The squaddie you get for completing the tutorial looks basically like Lost in Nightmare Jill Valentine, so I think I will name her that.

Some initial feedback (5 missions played beyond the tutorial):

+ Lots of little QOL improvements, which are very nice.
+ Character customisation is godlike.
+ Loads of new animations out in the field. Feels good to see my soldiers in action.
+ Ranger class. Whoa boy, I can see all pros stacking these guys.

- Action cam still highlights clipping issues. Why zoom in on my soldier shoving his gun into a wall and shooting an enemy through a cement barricade?
- Overmap stuff is a bit convoluted. Not sure wth is going on.
- Mission turn limits are very tight. They might as well remove the overwatch button for timed missions, which is a bit bullshit.
- Loads of graphics glitches.
- Game sometimes suffers drastic fps drops until you tab out and back in.
- Loading times are brutal. Like, easily 10x times of the previous game.
- Random hitching, sometimes on screens (like the victory screen) which has very little going on.

In the UK but used a VPN so i've been playing for a couple of hours now. A few things for people who are wondering.:

1) Game scales well in terms of graphics. Can run on slightly modified medium settings with a pentium g3420 and a GTX 750 (8GB RAM).

2) Played EU with a controller and hated K/M, this game feels alot snappier and even though i would prefer controller K/M is just fine for this game.

I'm going in! Though no Ironman for my first run. I want to learn some of the meta first hand before I take that plunge. Definitely starting on Commander since the two easier difficulties were a bit too much so in the first game. I expect the similar kind of comparison here.

I have. Haven't really had a chance to play but a couple of missions. The SMG does pitiful damage but really cranks up your mobility.

If you can get to a flanking position and are nearly guaranteed a crit its not bad.

Lots of fun once I got stable graphics settings. On veteran, first mission had tough enemies. Lost 1 man, the rest heavily wounded.

SSD highly recommended.

First mission is brutal on legendary. God dam sectoid destroyed my team with mind control and reanimate.

Yeah I had a rude awakening there too lol. Was able to proc a two turn disorient via a hack. Welp, sectoid, disoriented with roughly a 20% chance to hit just turns and plasmas my specialist, crits for 12.

It went to absolute hell after that.

After playing a few missions today, IMO, it's significantly more difficult than the previous game. My opinion could change later as I get more tech.

Guys, I've started playing through XCOM: Enemy Unknown recently after having it on my "later" pile since launch. I'm liking it well enough, but it's a little bit of a slog and all these rave reviews talking about how XCOM 2 is so improved in every respect has me now feeling like I'm playing a second-rate game.

Should I just abandon this and jump to 2, or are the improvements only something you'd appreciate if you're already familiar series? Basically, if I'm practically new to the franchise, is this one so much better that it's the obvious one to play?

Play EW first imo

I agree so far X2 is more difficult

My game is stuck on this screen:

Time is ticking down but I can not move anything, can not open any menu etc.
This happened right after I rescued some civilians. Restarting / Loading the game does not help :(

I'll try to do the same tomorrow morning (local time) when I boot up my computer and the decryption starts. In fact I'll fill my SSD today so that it has substantially less space than XCOM 2 install size is. In any case, I'm 100% sure I wasn't imagining things with RotTR since it happened only last week and I paid close attention to it because I had previous negative experience with this new decryption system that seems to now work for everyone but me(?)

(As if anyone cares) but I monitored my unlock process. Started with 18.2GB free space, it dipped as low as 7GB and was between 7-9GB most of the time. After the unpacking was done, it settled at 12.2GB. So the game grew by 6 gigabytes (24.9GB to 30.9GB), but required also quite a bit more than that during the unlocking. It did delete files from depotcache on the fly.

So in conclusion, XCOM 2 definitely didn't need anywhere near double the space for unlocking like RotTR seemed to need (in my case) but it did still require perhaps significant amount of free space (for SSD users) compared to the pre-load size.

Once I'm unlocked, can I bring Steam back online in my home region? IS there a risk there?

If the game still hasn't been released in your region you'll be preload locked i.e. Just like you were originally. If the game has been officially released then nothing different.

That's pretty much exactly what's happened to me, just at an earlier point in the campaign for me. I'm having to start again, and I'm not confident I won't have a repeat when I get back to where I was.

Nearly every mission ends like this...
I got more soldiers in the sickbay then on duty atm.

Same here. Is there something we can research to prevent or reduce injuries or should I assume a soldier will be out of action for 15 days every time they get shot.

I don't want to start over + how do I know it won't happen again at any point?

I will let the timer run a bit and see if the research pop-up will get me out of this...

Is cdkeys a legit place to get computer games? I know that it was ok for xbox but I just built a PC and was looking for a couple games to get. Xcom and Xcom 2 are there for pretty cheap and I wanted to start with the first one before I jumped on the second.
