XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

XCOM 2 started unpacking while I was playing Resident Evil 5. Suddenly my framerate went to the dogs and I thought my GPU was dying or something... spooky.

Augh. :(

glad I did the VPN thing. Also glad that Veteran is no joke.

Protip: escort missions have time limits...2 soldiers and the scientist made it out, lost one to a bad mind control and my sniper ended up 1 tile from the evac zone when time ran out.

Could have gone far worse if that sniper hadn't landed a 31% shot on that sectoid...hope I can rescue him one day.

They're in the Steam Workshop. Should be a link directly from XCOM 2 in your library to it.

As I understand it, just subscribe to what you want, Steam will download and install them, then you're good to go.

I want this game so badly, but there's no way my laptop can handle it.

I really hope that they'll port this over to PS4 within the next year.

Really disappointing how buggy and unoptimized this game is compared to the previous version. Not quite Bethesda levels of jank, but it's pretty bad.

If I can't see the enemy because of fog of war, the game shouldn't action cam on invisible things. It's disorienting as fuck.

How can I get the Digital Soundtrack? It's greyed out and says uninstalled, but the Resistance Warrior Pack and Reinforcement Pack both show as installed?

Picking this up later today. Gonna go ironman and legendary, never did that in the first one so will probably be over pretty quick :)

One change I want to do though on my first run is to reduce retraining time, so I can try out different builds.

Anyone done this, if so was it easy?

Where's the Ironman option? I didn't see it in the difficulty selection screen.

Secondly, why are there bin files for character names?

You have to opt out of the tutorial before you get the option to go ironman (it will show up after you select your difficulty).

Anyone else having issues where it makes you go to the upper right of the base overview and won't let you look anywhere outside of clicking on Research/Hanger/etc?

What the fuck...

Do you unlock more character faces later on? Cause trying to customize some of my people and it seems like it's impossible to create a male character that looks younger then 45. All the faces look like old men.

Guys, what is your opinion of the "Officially" released 3 mods on steam workshop? Should i play through the game without them first or start with them from the get go?

One of my first attempts in the character creator:

Goddamn I'm having so much fun with this game already.

What a surprise, time limits fucking me over already.

You've killed all the aliens effortlessly but we arbitrarily can't pick up the soldiers 1 tile from the extraction point. MISSION SUCCESS!

Also love that for some unknown reason the extraction site and the enemy alien reinforcement point are the same spot on the map and it doesn't even remotely make that fucking clear until an alien drop ship landed right in front of the VIP and evacuating soldiers. Also, the evac point is unrelated to where you started and they don't bother telling you where it is until a turn after you grab the VIP, not like this joint ever had plans before so I suppose it's too much to expect them to plan things in advance now. Jesus. No wonder the invasion succeeded with these muppets in charge.
It's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiine

You can get missions to retrieve captured soldiers, which is actually kinda interesting

Well, I played longer than expected, and I have to get up at 6AM the next morning o_o That's XCOM for you.

Also, the game is a lot easier than I thought it would be. If it's anything like XCOM 1
does +1 difficulty give the ADVENT soldiers 1 extra health, so they survive grenades? Sectoids in XCOM 1 had that and it was infuriating, but definitely changed my approach from spamming grenades in the early game

Has anyone played long enough to know where the tutorial ends? I want to restart on Ironman but didn't want to miss anything.

As for Guile hair, it's the last hair option on my list (Blowout). Maybe it was a deluxe edition perk :shrug

How urgent is the first Blacksite mission? Does that trigger something really mean?

Because my mostly A-Team is recovered and I think it's about time to go on a house call. Gonna go double Grenadier for it, I think, so I can blow things up and shred turrets. My Sharpshooter will have to sit it out since he got hurt. I need another Sharpshooter, but the GTS is under construction, so that should be fine. Not taking a rookie on the Blacksite mission, though.

I'm haing fun, I just unlocked the Doom Tracker, so now the race is on. Doing the Blacksite should knock it down by one, right?

If you wanna skip the intro vids, go into the DefaultEngine.ini file, search for 'PC Startup movies', and delete/comment out the five lines after the label.

Go to the character creator outside the game (outside the campaign I mean), you will see every customization option in the game

You choose the difficulty after the tutorial it seems, you dont need to restart

:( why the hell is there a character class option in the character creator if it doesn't mean that the character will be that class. Can't wait for a mod that lets you decide what class to promote to.

My thoughts exactly. Ranger ended up as Greandier...

My game is stuck on this screen:

Time is ticking down but I can not move anything, can not open any menu etc.
This happened right after I rescued some civilians. Restarting / Loading the game does not help :(

Aaand timer running did not help, and ideas?

I don't know why but this game can barely get through the cut scenes of the ship going to the missions with out freezing for 30 seconds at a time only to go to a black screen for 2 minutes then finally get to the loading screen. And am I missing something or is there no update for geforce experience for this game?

Got some time in before work. It's taxing my 660 pretty hard, even on minimum settings (but native since I don't roll any other way). Looking forward to an upgrade soon, native 1440p is too much for it in almost any game now.

Anyway, seems like a ton of fun. The mouse and keyboard controls are slightly improved from the first, but so far I haven't really seen a reason for why gamepad couldn't be an option. Feels much better at least, I couldn't stomach them in the first game and went for the gamepad. They could still throw in some UI improvements like mouse scrolling and locking a text window if left clicked on.

I enjoy how the millions of hours players spent in the first game are used as combat simulations by the aliens to improve their own tactics, lol. Pretty great.

Also had a nice Xcom moment in a mission when I was trying to flank an engaged officer and forgot to keep an eye on the surroundings. I activated another pod and had to backtrack immediately, losing a soldier, haha. Still beat the shit out of them, as should be expected on easy missions (at least on Veteran difficuly, I'll probably up it after my first failure). The timers in the missions really have kept me on my toes so far, but in general I've never really gotten the dislike some people have for timers in games. Setting up ambushes feels great.

It's going to be a great weekend~

I'm exactly the same. I have a 13" 2014 Macbook Pro and it only has the Intel Iris graphics in it. It runs Enemy Unknown on low settings badly enough to stop me from buying XCom 2 right now and I just can't justify dropping a few hundred on a decent gaming PC just for this.

Very jealous of all of you enjoying the game right now!

Bugwatch: A sharpshooter taking cover on top of some alien tower took aim, stepped up, and walked three meters into the sky for a clear shot. Alas it happened too fast for me to get a screenshot of it. And yes, she hit her target.

I've only been in two missions but it's been a blast so far. I chickened out and went Ironman Veteran (the second easiest difficulty) and have yet to lose anyone. I've probably jinxed myself.

The concealment stuff plus the time limits make for some very tense missions, I think. It's really cool.

Setting up glorious ambushes against a squad of enemies in X-Com 2 is one of life's greatest pleasures.

the first mission was hard till i realized that I could set up an easy ambush for the first patrol. the second patrol was a little harder to get to because of time constraints but it eventually all came into place like a master plan
