Big mistake playing this late. Couldn't resist. Got too many killed and I'll probably just restart tomorrow after work.

Maaan how long is this tutorial? I've been playing for hours and still haven't seen the mission you start on when starting with the tutorial disabled.

I just want ironman damn

The game feels unoptimized generally. It kinda drags on max settings on my r9 290 Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz while not really looking all that amazing.

More importantly, I keep getting stuck in menus.

I just had to force close the game because I couldn't leave the character customization section.

jdv40et.jpg

I could click around, customize characters, but not return. The bottom left arrow simply wouldn't do anything. Escape wouldn't do anything.

Anyone else encountering any of this?

I've had a few spots where it seemed to freeze, but was actually just loading something. Takes a moment to sort out. The initial load and leaving the game were the most jarring--in both cases I assumed it locked up.

I really do hope they iron out the jank. The game really deserves it.

Anyone else having issues where it makes you go to the upper right of the base overview and won't let you look anywhere outside of clicking on Research/Hanger/etc?

For me, the cause was a plugged-in joystick (I think EU had a similar problem). There's a probably something in an ini file to fix it, but unplugging the joystick works.

Guys I found Van Doorn

edit: nm im blind <:D

lmao...

What does hacking actually do, though? I had an opportunity to hack, but passed on it because I have zero idea on what it is, what it does, what the risks are, etc.

I expected a tooltip for it, but there was nothing.

Got hyper rekt on the first civilian rescue urgent mission and that was only Veteran

Shapeshifter + sectoid team fucked me up bad

Same here. On my second one, managed to meet one of the two mission objectives and the mission still counted as a failure. Got everyone out alive though so I'll take it. I'm on Veteran and would say it is decently challenging but I haven't teched up to tier 2 stuff quite yet.

Yep, had the same problem. Had to force close the game and go back in. Seems like a real rookie issue.

Game won't close properly =_=
So annoying. Basically have to kill it in taskmanager, unless the game crashed and I'm stuck with a black screen with music.

Maybe it's telling me I should keep it open at all times!

I'm also getting crushed pretty badly a couple missions after the first rescue. I had a mission with 12 enemies and could only take out 4 after getting bumrushed with stun guns. This is also on Veteran. Pretty humbling so far!

Did a dumb move and 3 out of 4 soldiers died from a grenade. I'm okay with 1 dying but anything more I feel justified in hitting reload.

I don't get the overmap. Like, whoever designed the overmap interface needs to step back, take a deep breath and reconsider their career choices.

Plus, if the game bugs me one more time about unassigned staff when there is nothing to assign them to I will flip.

No offense but you must have gone in completely blind and apparently expected no changes from the first one. All of what you said (well except the resist thing) were already known in advance. Sometimes staying in the dark to avoid spoilers isnt the best idea I guess.

The confusion about the timers especially is bizarre since the devs have been saying for months they were in, specifically to get away from the slow methodical place as you call it. They wanted a more offensive game this time around. Im not saying its better or worse by the way, im just saying you shouldnt suddenly be surprised the game is like they said many times it would be.

Its like someone buying Street Fighter 5 and going "wtf I cant focus attack anymore"

I did practically go in blind when it comes to mechanics and such ( i had seen a bit of combat and base gameplay ). But honestly, whether it was known beforehand or not doesn't really matter. I still think it's a horrible change of direction to have virtually all missions force you into having to play fast and loose. Now it's like every mission being a bomb disposal mission. If some people like the change, that's cool. I personally, think it's a terrible change, that's all.

I'm also not sure why you seem to downplay the other things you say was known beforehand. Again, them being known before the game was out, doesn't excempt them from being problems/issues

The assignment part has also bugged me, it kept making me think I was missing something I could be assigning someone to. But of course I had nothing to use my personnel on just like in your case. It was confusing for a couple of minutes.

Commander difficulty definetly not too easy, lol. Feels right on the spot.

Also, I love how mobile and smart (with glaring exceptions) the advent is. The aliens seem more straightforward like last game, but advent troops will constantly move around to awkward places resulting in situations where you can't just hold your ground. It creates very interesting, puzzle-like scenarios. I feel like while EU though me to be pacient, this game teaches me how to be smart.

I was never one to take too long to decide what to do, but here I found myself often staring at the map and circling through all my troops because the game kind of forced me to make the best of my turn.

The technical side of the game is still annoying as hell, but the gameplay is perfection. Where sequels often just add stuff, this game seems smarter, it feels like the product of a better designer.

Good stuff, Jake. Very good.
Now make it not run like shit.

My mouse is a left handed razer naga.

For some reason the game doesn't aknowledge my mouse clicks. At the main menu screen i have to use the arrow keys to select options. Clicks work when in the menu window. I have to click twice to change options.
If i go to character pool and click on create character nothing happens.
In game i can't move the characters.

I'll verify the game and restart everything. But so far i'm really disappointed.

Anyone having issues with characters from the custom pool not showing up correctly in the actual game? I don't mean that they're not showing up, they're just showing up with the correct name and ~75% correct settings, but with a few totally wrong attributes.

I even specifically said I wasnt opinating weather it was good or bad, I just said I expected them. You cant act surprised or disapointed when you already expect something, is all

anytime time to see how this runs

Sort of. I set some of them to be specific classes but when I recruited them and they upgraded from Rookie they were given random classes. Bleh. Visually they seem to be ok though. I noticed a number of the customization options are currently locked while playing early in-game whereas in the Pool editor they are not. Maybe this has something to do with your problem?

The most egregious one is personality type, some of my created characters are coming into my game with completely random ones rather than the one I set.

Looking forward to playing this after I finish work in a few hours, what difficulty to you recommend playing on Veteran or Commander, Is there a difference in Turn Limit as that could swing me either way.

the first mission was hard till i realized that I could set up an easy ambush for the first patrol. the second patrol was a little harder to get to because of time constraints but it eventually all came into place like a master plan

Oh absolutely. Once you get the hang of it you can just decimate an entire enemy patrol in a single go. It's such a small thing but it makes you feel the insurgency angle of the games theme. It also has me excited for Ranger builds that focus on concealment. Have one or two that stay concealed or reconceal to sneak around the enemy and set up a second flanking attack on the next unfortunate enemy squad.

Changing things down to the high preset really helped. I kinda thought I should be able to do max with my pc specs, but the game for whatever reason isn't optimal.

In any case, I REALLLLLLY love that there's more soldier customization now. That was one of the things I most wanted in a sequel. Growing attached to soldiers through gameplay is one of the most interesting things about the experience.

These bugs are making it scary to play on Ironman. I keep getting locked in menus and red/black screens on my turn that I have to be very careful to get around or risk accidentally moving a character.

I read your post as only talking about the turn timers when you said you didn't know if it was good or bad. My bad if you meant in general for the things i mention.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say I can't be surprised or dissapointed by the things in the game just because I had some personal expectations though. Of course I can?

My first squad wipe on Commander ironman. A faceless popped out from a civilian at the worst possible moment.

Going to start a new game when I get back home. Seems like a massive improvement over EU.

Getting your Specialists' hack skill up can really help you fuck shit up. If you run into a pod with a MEC, you can stun it or take control of it to basically neutralize that entire pod. Also, whenever you have the opportunity to do a "Hack" you should try it to see what the odds/rewards are, and if you don't want to attempt it you can simply cancel the hack and it doesn't cost an action. Some of the hack rewards are insane. I had one that gave me essentially a free turn, it was absolutely marvelous.

Started a new campaign on Commander and damn, my soldiers are absolutely wrecking it. First 'terror' mission went flawless too.

I love xcom, one of the best games ever made. The newest remake was pretty good too. I didn't like the squad size limitation though.

What I worry about in the new one is the time limits being on most missions it seems. I like to take my time and set things up. I hope that it gets modded out.

I'm not buying till it's optimised and gets a significant discount

As someone who loves Overwatch, I hate this thread title.

Do enemies still get a free movement turn when you discover them on the map?

that was weird

was in the middle of a mission and fired a shot with one of my soldiers and they went into the little shooting cutscene thing and then just....sat there pointing their gun

had to reload, good thing i'm not playing ironman I guess

You shouldn't worry about that. I hate timers in 95% of games and they are excellent in XCOM 2. The game is also set up so that you are supposed to go in hard and fast, and taking out timers would ruin the whole experience. Some of the timers are also set up so that you can achieve the objective and finish up the aliens without a timer. The hardest missions don't have timers at all.

Do enemies still get a free movement turn when you discover them on the map?

Not if your soldiers who see them are in concealment.

ok dude, you are either missing my point or just want to argue, so lets just drop it.

edit: oops thats for the performance thread
