XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

They should be spawning in with the waves from the gates.

no waves, no nothing. not an enemy in sight after I killed the first pod of 2 archons and an avatar.

It's been like 10 turns since I killed them, since then i've just been running around desperately trying to find the other guys

So, is there any downside other than not getting the stuff for ignoring a Council Mission?

As far as I can tell, as soon as I get Powered Armor from the Research lab, I'm done with the tech tree, so it's time to zero in on ending the game. And that Council mission is not helpful to the gameplan for that. So, skip it?

If the game warns you about dire consequences when you try to ignore a mission, it probably means that you will lose a region and have to re-scan it.

So, save the game, fast forward, see how angry gravely voiced shadowman gets. If not too angry, then onwards to victory and anime armors!

EDIT: Yup, ignoring that mission costs me a region. That's stupid. Why does the Resistance's continued existence rely on getting a VIP extracted?

he had the only set of keys to the base
That or he's just Tsundere for XCOM. "It's not like I WANTED you to extract this VIP or anything!" And then when we don't he gets all indignant and refuses to answer our calls for a couple of weeks. But he still cares enough to call and congratulate you on blowing up aliens.

they torture the VIP and he gives them information about the resistance so they have to go into hiding

That reminds me, ever since I read Psi Effect I've been jonesing for a TC into Mass Effect universe. The Bureau was already XCOM meets ME, where's my ME meets XCOM? That shit would look great as a TBT.

I would love a turn based ME. god that would just be perfect.

Obviously it would have to be more on-rails, and the player wouldn't be able to get themselves into an unwinnable state.

I can see how that would be bad, yes.

I am tempted to try and stunt it with a silly amount of Mimic Beacons and just running for it... Of course, a Sectopod does open up some possibilities if I could hijack it.

I was thinking the same, but not Mass Effect as the inspiration but The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. Essentially a galaxy sized world but only humans... among millions of solar systems.

Mass Effect would be great as well. They have some similarities.

I can't not plug Psi Effect enough, by the way. A world where Humanity is the scary people-kidnapping aliens is really just great

Mission where the aliens crash land your ship was ridiculous. Had to leave one of my guys behind and now lots of my soldiers are wounded. Got a lot of promotions out of it though.

Ridiculously great! In my game I killed 75 of the fuckers and only suffered a few injuries. Great fun!

Hmm... "ENEMY UNKNOWN" it says. But all non-boss enemies I haven't met yet are
Gatekeepers
. I bet they fall to Rapid Fire Bluescreen Ammo Shredder Beam Cannons like everything else that's supposed to be nasty about now does. It's just wrong to take out 2/3s of a Sectopod in one action. Then Psi Inspire her to do it again. Sectopods hate that.

But I do look forward to seeing one in action. Then again, two Sectopods later and I still haven't seen what they can do. They appear, they explode.

It was really intense. I wanted all my guys back obviously but one was too far away and there were too many enemies on screen. I saved and tried to move him to see what would happen, and a mech blew up like half of my team on the ship. So I decided to sacrifice him for the rest.

Just beat it.

Really great game but I think it was a bit to similar to the first game imo, it felt less like a sequel and more like the second expansion pack to the first game. Still enjoyed all of it but I was hoping for a bit more. I played on Veteran which seemed way to easy it certainly never felt as punishing as the first game I don't think I ever failed a single mission although I did reset one when I didn't realize I wasn't going to get all my people out of evac in time and would lose them.

The classes are renamed but function almost exactly the same with some added tweaks and the weapon/armor upgrades are still just 3 basic levels of gear. Theres a lot to like about it but its still very very similar to the first game I don't think it takes any risks at all despite the much more dramatic setup (Aliens having already won) and personally I was really waiting for at least some kind of
interesting plot twist
but it never really happened. Also I liked the new enemy types but I don't think there were enough and far to many that were reused from the first game or just palate swapped with higher stats, wanted more unique aliens.

I don't think there were enough counters to the types of abilities you can have your people end up having. Excluding the psi abilities it really felt like Sharpshooters were insanely op, my main one 'Boss' killed over 100 enemies and only got wounded like twice after over 40 missions. Serial basically made me win the game as during the last fight he got 6 kills in one turn and I was on the verge of losing before that. I loved that character but its crazy that there isn't a single enemy in the game that really counters snipers. I gave him the EMP ammo and the only threats with a lot of hp (mechs) he would just waste with relative ease with the extra damage. There should have been some type of enemy that was immune to sniper fire or could shield enemies from it/take reduced damage from them.

At least (ending spoilers)
What the elders are saying at the very end seems to be strongly suggesting there are 'other' aliens out there which is likely setting up either an expansion or X-Com 3.

Anyone ever get stressed out by how well an Ironman save is going? My latest (and greatest) Commander Ironman run is going too well. Every time I open my Armory two months in and see no injuries (and one casualty total, which was on Gatecrasher), I get the urge to just save and quit. It's just going to go downhill from here.

I never have enough cores on commander it seems. I still don't have an emp and only have 1 ammo type. I don't notice the warning about destroyed loot very much either.

Oh man, I just realized after my last mission that the VIP I rescued was the specialist I had to leave behind in the crash landing mission. That's awesome.

Game kinda got too easy after a while and I found myself getting bored. I'll probably revisit once they get a long war type mod going.

Now that I think about it, isn't that similar to the other XCOM series
XCOM Afterlight where you actually team up with the greys against another alien race

Yeah.... I got the feeling an hour ago. Then I had a 6 man wipe, with half of my best guys gone.

Then I had another 5 man wipe.

Fuck me. Okay, so first: Don't play iron man. But if you're a crazy person and decide to, then if you happen to ever notice it's way too god damned long without a result from a scan, and then the scan turns to -1 up to -4 days left, then you go somewhere else and that scan does nothing, quit your game and burn your computer. Because the alternative might just be three weeks of notifications all at once including a council mission and a dark site event.

Eh, totally doable.

That sucks though

You can actually destroy loot with explosives I think. At least I have seen it happen with acid pools.

Also vulture seems to help a bit.

Yeah, it pops up a little message that it was destroyed...haven't noticed that much at all, but I didn't pick up vulture until very late. Maybe the black market sells some...I should really check that out more.

Yeah. At first I was shitting myself, but as my rookies started popping out of the base, I was able to use one of them as cannon fodder while my highly trained troops retreated unscathed. In fact, it was in this mission I became attached to one of my snipers, who manged to pull of some legendary shots that saved the entire team on multiple occasions.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Rookie gets grazed for 1 damage while dodging, 'gravely wounded' for 26 days

I swear it has to be a random roll or something.

UFO Afterlight, and IIRC you don't have to team up with the greys
(though I never finished).

Guys, you know it's not going to be Terror From the Deep, right? Soloman's said pretty plainly that he's not a fan. If they do something like it, it won't be that.

Save as much as you can in terms of grenades, etc. for the final room. The encounters leading up to it are not particularly hard and are broken up with no time limit (so you can chill to let cooldowns expire between pods) but the last room is an absolute gauntlet.

Met a
Gatekeeper
for the first time. It used some aoe and hit 5 of my guys. After that mission all of my main guys were injured for 5-12 days. After 2 days Guerrilla Ops pops up and I sent in the B team of 3 backups and 3 squaddies. Of course that was the mission where
Andromedons
debuted for me. There were 2 of them in different groups but I only had firepower to deal with 1. I got the intel but right after that aggroed 2 group that pincered my troops. 2 Squaddies died immediately and I used the 3rd as a sacrificial pawn to get my 3 backups away with the intel. Shit was intense.

Yeah. I was watching someone play, and a soldier that was bleeding out and was revived got wounded status, while in another, 2 points of damage from a Viper's bound attack was enough to get gravely wounded.

Trying to do a supply raid mission and there is absolutely no way to get to the haxbox in 8 turns without sacrificing at least 1 trooper.

Even without the timer the fight itself would be *extremely* difficult.
