XCOM 2: War of the Chosen |OT| Mario + Rabbids + Autopsies

I just started my campaign today, and I was too scared to turn on "Beta Strike".
It sounds like it would make me change my entire strategy of "kill everything before it has the chance to perform any actions".
Which, as I understand, is the point...But that makes it sound like a new sort of XCOM that I'm not used to.
If I completely crush this campaign easily, I think I'll turn it on when I start the next one (which will probably be as soon as the credits roll)

Next I think I'll try out the challenge mode

There's a new challenge map every day, so you better keep trying it :p

And that applies for anyone else here. Challenge mode is a great change of pace from the regular campaign. Just remember to disable all the mods in the launcher before starting the game.

You also have to disable the console :(. slomo 3 is my jam.

Aye it's fun, pity about the cheaters though. I hope firaxis find a way to lock them out of challenge mode permanently.

Is there a mod that makes rounds go quicker? I'm so fucking sick of having to listen to all the annoying talking done by both enemies and allies during missions

Often you can press tab or left shift to switch between xcom members mid-action animation. Xcom operative will continue doing its thing and you can already plan the next move. Only exception is when first move is triggering advent pod or some other "zoom" effect, can't switch to next member then.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
game got stuck during the challenge

it was the aliens turn and they had this big white ball

and it took ages to finish the opening animation of the ball and then sort of just... stayed there

is this a common bug?

Yeah I use the tabbing constantly. But no, the game just straight up just takes control away from me because the choosen wants to talk some more shit or because that backup commander guy wants to point out something super obvious. And this just happens way too much

Ah yes, that. Yeah I guess you do need a mod to fix that.

What the poster below you said, get the mod Stop Wasting My Time. Speeds up a ton of stuff about the game and does exactly what it says on the tin.

How do you deal with Archons? They're a pain. They do tons of damage and it's so hard to hit them.

Use guaranteed hit attacks if you can, like grenades. If not that, you can mimic beacon and they'll almost always go there after first pinion attack. If not that, use high cover to "force" archon do melee attack which is "only" 6 points of damage or so and much more bearable than some other attacks enemies do.

If all else fails, just brute force him down with your whole team.

I've found Mutons and such be much more lethal so I usually treat archon as a low priority target.

Does War of the Chosen qualify for Game of the Year being an expansion? Because I think I finally found a game to dethrone Nier: Automata for my personal GOTY. Holy shit, I'm in love with this game!

I've been playing a lot since las week. I've clocked 35 hours on my first campaign alone and I still have tons of stuff to do, if I'm not mistaken. I've taken down the Viper King, my second Alien Ruler, and got its armor, and I'm about to storm the Warlock's hideout with my team.

I love how great it feels to start so low and progress until your squad becomes and unstoppable killing machine. I swear, Sectoids were the bane of my existence when they started appearing a few hours into the campaign. I was scared to death of them, but now they are basically a free kill for my team. Even the Sectopods are starting to become non-issues for me!

I love investing so much time in my characters. I feel emotionally attached to them and I've assigned them specific roles and dynamics during the missions. I usually roll with a Sharpshooter, a Ranger, a Reaper (for scouting), a combat Specialist, an explosives Ganadier and a healing Specialist, though I change the sixth member depending on the mission I'm about to take. I haven't unlocked neither Psi Operatives nor SPARKs yet, but I'm in no rush to get them, honestly. I haven't found much use for Skirmishers and Templars either. What are you guys using?

The game is not without its faults. It can be a bit on the buggy side, sure. But, woah, I'm loving it more than I thought I would. I find it even better than the first one.

I went on a mission to take down an Advent facility, and encountered the Berserker Queen at the same as a pod with 2 vipers and 1 andromedon. Shit got real, and I saw no way that I would get out of it.

Kept going though, took some more beating, and then my reaper just downed the Berserker Queen with one shot, after I've before only had taken 4-5 energy from it. Execution it said. Not sure what happened there, and it felt like a bug more then anything else.

One grenadier just laid on the ground, full energy shown but grayed out. And no status about her being dead, incapacitated or anything. Beat the mission, and she was shown as captured. Weird.

You must have had a repeater on her rifle, it gives a 5-15% chance of killing the target per shot took.

As to your grenadier did you leave him/her behind when you evaced at the end of the mission? You can carry dead and unconscious team members out to rescue their gear or them. Don't worry though you will probably get a mission to go and rescue them

Soloing berserkers and Andromedons with a templar is so satisfying.

And holy shit the assassin's weapons are a game changer.

Yep, as mentioned above, execution means your repeater went off.

Took down my second chosen last night, the sniper. Kind of regret it, I like his attitude ^^

ps: I love how the chosen recognize that you're attacking them with a weapon that belonged to one of their siblings. This game is so great with little things like that.

At a certain point the aliens have to kinda regret sending in their anything of theirs.

2035, Alien log: The resistance has reverse-engineered new weapons and armour from our troops. They have also enhanced their medikits with an agent seemingly derived from one of our fallen soldiers. Further, word has reached us that they are meddling in psionics. Their resilience tests our patience.

2036, Alien log: the resistance has matched our armaments; it is only our superior numbers that keeps them at bay. All of our Chosen are dead, and the resistance is using their weapons against us. Additionally, there has been a string of incidents where our mechanoids have been turned against us, and the resistance's dabbling in psionics has turned even our soldiers against us. Our only hope is the Avatar project... which has been delayed by months in part due to resistance sabotage.

2037, Alien log, January 1st: This is the Resistance. We found this log and figured we'd set the record straight: the aliens have fallen; we've won.

XCOM 3 will show this as canon. #believe

Yep, probably had a repeater. Haven't had it go off anytime before, so it suprised me. Quite fun to get it on the Berserker Queen of all enemies. Felt like cheating. :p

Weird thing was that I couldn't pick her up, she seemed to be part of the background or something. But I'm ok with rescuing her, considering how easy I got off on the actual mission.

I had repeaters proc on back to back shots against
Avatars in the final mission of a C/I vanilla game
. It was the weirdest, coolest, most relieving thing I've ever experienced in a videogame. The odds were greater than 1/100, and I might have lost that entire run if it hadn't happened.

The assassin became IMMUNE TO EXPLOSIVES???? I rely on plasma grenades to get guaranteed hits!
Note that while she's "immune to explosives," you can still use grenades to shred her armor.

So an Spectre used its Shadowbound in one of my guys. But when I killed the Spectre and the clone disappeared my guy doesn't want to wake up. It also doesn't let me interact with him when I move somebody next to him, neither to revive or carry him.

How fucked am I? He is my top Grenadier :(

Also, the Chosen Assassin is a fucker.

Sounds like what happened to my grenadier. If that's the case, he should be marked as captured when the mission ends, and you should get a mission to rescue him.

Should.

Aye I chuckle the first time I executed a ruler but the second time felt a bit cheap. I know there was a mix that stopped repeaters working on rulers, hopefully it'll get updates for the expansion.

It sucks you couldn't pick your soldier up but if the rescue missions are like the one you have to do to get Mox back it should be a lot of fun.

Shit like this is keeping me from starting an ironman game. Maybe I'll go with that bronzeman mod instead (no saving during a mission).

Care to guess what happens when you kill an Advent priest psy linked to the Archon ruler?

he doesn't die, he just takes the same damage you dealt to the priest

Welp, second Chosen down. Only the Hunter remains. The Warlock was extremely easy compared to the Assassin:

I was so happy with the results of my mission that I decided to go for a less subtle approach in my propaganda poster to commemorate my success:

Also, the Chosen Assassin is a fucker.

What mod is that? I've subscribed to Additional Icons (WotC version), but I can't make it appear on my game, even if I configured it :/

I played a ton of the previous XCOM and Enemy Within and I've been getting the itch to play some TBStrategy. Is XCOM2 with this expansion a good place to jump in or should i just grab the vanilla version?

Get the expac.

It integrates the same way enemy within did where it kind of lays over top the base game, so you probably wouldn't want to play vanilla first. imho.

Has this UI mod been updated for the expansion? I loved it in vanilla.

Could someone explain to me how Templar's Stun Strike works? Because this thing straight up doesn't work for me. It literally always misses.

Should I have warden armor by the time sectopods and andromedons start showing up? I anyone gets shot even once by them they're on death's door. I have almost got beam cannons, if I had money I would have upgraded completely.

Took out my second chosen and began making moves against the black sites and moving the campaign forward.

Team status:
A Team- All fatigued or injured from second chosen mission
B Team- Half fatigued from a monthly mission, two on bonding mission
C Team- Half on a covert action

I noticed that I've let the avatar clock get out of control and opt to send D team into a blacksite. D team is decent fairly high ranked and at this point a member of A team can chaperone them.

D Team status after mission- 3 dead

D team ran into a ruler and I have never seen a ruler before. I played and finished vanilla before any dlc came out and this monster shows up and proceeds to just murder and murder. I somehow was able to finish the mission but largely because the ruler ran away.

On one hand I want to read more about them now to be prepared but on the other hand that shit was intense in a way that not even the chosen currently are for me. They go down so fast and the game outright tells you how to beat them. The ruler reactions were just wrecking my poor D team. I think i'm going to make some sparks to round out my ranks.

I am glad to hear that. I was worried (last night when I finally put her down for good) the other two would be even more difficult to take down than she was. I suppose I should research her weapons next, and put them to good use against the rest of her dysfunctional family.

That poster is perfect for the occasion. Congrats on the flawless victory!

It's worth double-checking whether your evac zone allows everyone to get there in a turn.

I had... an incident... that reminded me of this important practice.

It would help but I'd get all the plasma weapons done first then on to the power armour and get a war suit asap (preferably while getting an experimental heavy weapon out quickly). Getting Bluescreen rounds for the Sectopods is a must as well as a good Specialist for hacking. I always take two in the late game - a healer and a hacker.

Aaaaaaaaand done :) Never finished the vanilla but finally finished it with the expansion on Veteran. Took me ~35 hours and would be sooner if I didn't take psionic guy on final mission. He was total dead weight :) Anyway, the xpack is fantastic - can't wait for XCOM 3. Seems like we're going
underwater!
Oh and the sharphooter with chosen weapon = god of death :)

Alright this is complete bullshit. So I set up this perfect scenario where I get Elena Teamwork to kill two enemies in one turn but APPARENTLY if you Teamwork someone before they take a shot and they take a shot, your turn just magically ends despite them still having an action left. And of course I'm left out in the middle of no fucking cover and get critted twice and it's just complete and utter stupidity.

And now I lose my high level Reaper to some bullshit teamwork interaction and now I'm resetting cause the blacksite mission just fell apart after that.
