Yeah, why is that stuff not on consoles?

I'm happy to support Firaxis, but us console players are getting the shaft here.

I'm fucking furious. There was really no excuse for the base game to remain in the state it's in, but I thought, 'Okay, originally their plans were to not even port it. XCOM EU did poorly on consoles, this must have tanked too. At least it exists.'

But after everything got properly optimized for WotC on PC, and then it's somehow an even WORSE game on console? Fuck this and fuck you, 2K and Firaxis. Clearly the problem seems to be Blind Squirrel, who 100% have not earned whatever they were paid for these ports.

But whatever. They got my money, so they win. I look forward to a patch that barely irons out these 'game won't even load' bugs and leaves the three minute loading screens.

God, I'm pissed.

I actually wouldn't mind a mod that removes Lost ("Get Lost", heh).

They are a trivial threat, and AI just do not know how to handle them at all. Whole swarm & repeated firing thing got a bit tiring as well, for me. Lost do serve as excellent turn waster and limiter on explosive usage but meh.

I don't know. I like them in some doses.
I like both their specific missions (the "rescue VIP in lost territory") ones and they make weird synergy with the Chosen when both are on the same map.

But I think they are at their weakest, and most boring, when it is a completely regular mission, but with the "The Lost" or "The Horde" sitrep and Lost World makes every mission like that for 6 weeks. With grim horizon for the entire game? Urgh.

Horde mission sitrep in particular is just a free mission even earlier on the game. If all you have to worry about is the lost and nothing else, then you have nothing to worry about. No cover, no issue in revealing pods. Unless RNG absolutely decides to screw with you, all the lost does, at worst, is making you stand in the same place while you deal with them.

Have you tried that Buffer Lost mod? Ups their damage a smidge.

What they really need is a few extra classes tbh. You get most/all of what they have to offer by the midgame, and from there it's just a few extra HP on average.

Is it normal to be at Elerium weapons with two Chosen down, but not even out of my starting continent? I don't see the point of expanding with WotC, as I get way too many missions (and resulting rewards/resources) from the get go.

saw the base game was on sale on Humble right now for 23$, and was wondering if anyone else has played the game with a 770 gtx video card. Was thinking about picking it up but worried my PC wouldn't be able to handle it at 60fps (don't mind lowering some graphic settings to get it). Thinking I might just wait til it's on Steam sale as I doubt I can get a refund on Humbles website like I could directly from steam if it doesn't run too great on my PC.

Just got into this series recently though thanks to the rabbids game lol. Been playing Xcom Enemy Unknown for a bit now, had a few failed runs starting off, but think I finally got a good run going right now currently on normal ironman. I suck so much at strategy games, but I'm loving this with all the base building and management stuff and how it plays into the field combat

I'm running a 950M, which is in the same general ballpark as the 770GTX, and I had some trouble with the base game but the expansion smoothed it out.

Which reminds me... Did the LW2 devs said anything about plans of updating their mod to accommodate WoTC in some way?

I'd be incline to doubt it will happen since they must be busy with their own game, but you never know.
 
Really bummed to hear about the poor performance on console. I snagged a cheap PS4 copy that I'm hoping will run ok on my pro. Have they said anything about performance tweaks for console? Think I might just opt for the pc version and expansion right now and sell my PS4 copy.

They are updating their smg and alien mods, but no word about lw afaik

You can turn a bunch off in the starting options. Tutorial, beginner VO (the hey commander, you can do this here) and some third thing IIRC. AFter that, you can use the mod Stop Wasting My Time so Central won't call in every time the timer is about to run out or a civilian died.

This plus Instant Avenger Menus picks the flow of the game up so much, absolutely essential.

A slew of the LW2 submods (SMG, that sort of thing) are being moved over by other modders now, but as for the whole package... I dunno. Aren't they working an XCOM game of their own now?

Man who the hell ported this to consoles? My army's pupils are gone. Textures glitch out on the regular. The performance overall is terrible with chugs and tugs. Loading times in general are bad.
 
/edit/ ^ouch ... glad I didn't pull the trigger last night. I am going to buy this 100% eventually but I ended up waiting just because I think I played too much XC2 this summer so I figured I'd maaaaybe wait until the winter when I was a bit more in the mood. hopefully they patch it and smooth things out.
Put it this way -- the game lags and stutters every time I'm creating a soldier and I preview a voice.
is it worse than original XCOM 2? are you on standard PS4?

on standard PS4, I thought standard XC2 was OK... super slow loading times and not the greatest frame rate, but playable. never felt it hurt my experience. but mostly because it was 'stable' in its so-so performance.

odd stutters and lag tho, that'll get to me :(
 
My primary Grenadier looks like Tech N9ne, I swear. It wasn't even on purpose lol, his defaults were like this and I added a face tattoo and now I can't stop seeing it

I'm on a Pro. So far, the gameplay seems about the same, everything okay there. I think I ran into a small bug where my action list didn't appear for a single soldier, until I hit R2 and it popped up.

Thankfully no crashes yet, as other people have reported. Like I mentioned, there's a good five or so second delay when previewing soldier voices, and the animation freezes.
 
Damn my entire B Team just got wiped out by a combination of the worst luck on a mission ever. Escort VIP in Lost infested territory with Gatekeepers and Andromedons all over the place.

I think I could have managed it if I had brought my best team but they were still recovering from taking down the last chosen. The dead will be easy enough to replace so this is not going to kill my playthrough but it did suck.
 
Late-game council mission seems to have resulted in fucked-up mission saves for me. Loading saves within the mission results in a crash. Fan-fucking-tastic. Good thing I always keep a pre-mission save. One more reason to never bother with Ironman.
 
Assassin down.

The final room turned out harder than I thought, almost lost my Reaper but thank god for run 'n gun/crit build Ranger (even though they nerfed it) + a clutch teamwork that I had saved up.

Hunter is next and his mission is already unlocked, just have to wait for my team to recover.

First time she runs up, uncloaks, and crit kills Mox which makes me reload my save (I'm on Ironman, thank god that wasn't just a full game ender). So second try I reposition slightly different so she runs up, uncloaks, and crit kills my Grenadier instead.

You can't Overwatch her, and you can't even see her until she makes her first attack, so...?

Well, her critting is just you having bad luck, but she will hit for sure.
When I did this mission, I did with 4 rookies.

She's really annoying to kill though. I never tried the sensors you can build in engineering. Those could maybe help.

Oh bugger. That's the kind of information I was waiting for. I bought the base game while it was on sale and was thinking about buying the expansion for the patch.

Seems like there's no patch.

She's really annoying to kill though. I never tried the sensors you can build in engineering. Those could maybe help.

They work, IIRC. They're very useful for scanning structures and stuff, since you detect things on any floor.

However, the Assassin is never too far away and her map entrance point is choreographed, so it's usually possible to figure out the general area she might be approaching from without a scanner. Fanning soldiers out, or using a Reaper to scout, is a good method of revealing her before she strikes. Or using a Skirmisher's hookshot thing to get a good vantage point, though it's a lot riskier.

In my experience she generally gets off an attack or two before being defeated. The Warlock has been much more troublesome, while the Hunter is kind of a joke in my experience. (I fully expect to eat my words at some point.)

once the hunter gets tagged by my reaper he's basically toast. Dude grappled over the other side of the map so i dropped a claymore and fragged him, he fell three stories, and then i shot him until he died.

only weird thing was that he somehow got high cover despite standing in a field full of debris

That must be a bug. I've seen that happen... more than I care for.

Not sure if it's a display bug or what, but there will be enemies clearly getting flanked, yet they will have a ~mysterious~ high cover bonus to their defense.
 

Seems like a solid list! I can't imagine playing the game through again without 'Stop wasting my time', I was fine with the pod activation cutscenes in vanilla but they get ridiculous here on missions with the Lost. Also the mod that makes the new skill UI the default for promotions too is great!
