After I get Mechanical Level 4 is it safe to upgrade something else?

And if so what should I upgrade to level 2? Botanical or archeological? I'm still before chapter 4.

Wow. Impressive. You mainlined it huh?

Mechanical level 5 can be obtained via sidequest only. Level 4 is the peak upgrade with Eleanora.

Archeilogical was the one I upgraded next. Haven't seen biological that's above level 2 so far so archeilogical makes more sense to me.

Updated my team's look. I questioned why I decided to give Elma those pants, but it definitely matches the shirt well.

And my Skell team. Used mostly black and red for team colors.

I've actually spent a bunch of time with side quests and affinity missions

And level 5 field skills are only available through special basic missions, not through blade level

I'm exploring stuff I should wait to get a Skell for. It's just in my nature.

Thanks. Looks like archeological for me.

Action shot!

The normal Tyrant and standard battle themes sound like something you'd hear in an anime. I cant place what anime though...just the style sounds familiar.
Attack on Titan? Kill la Kill? Aldnoah Zero? Gundan Unicorn?

EDIT: Great pic! Can't wait to fight him =D

Yes they just say Skell Wear, it's at the very top above its defense value. I just checked.

Now that I have the game on might as well try to defeated the stupid Wroth Prince.
Thanks for checking! :)

Wow this manon Holy water quest is pretty legit.

Pretty heavily atheist message. I'm surprised.
The whole arc with the Biahno Lake water purification plant is really strong and one of the best in-world executions of the actual premise of the game (survivors trying to expand and secure a place on Mira). From helping to set it up and securing the construction to it becoming one of the major manmade fixtures outside of NLA in Primordia to the
tragedy
- it's a real good throughline in that whole chain of sidequests that make use of the location which I enjoyed immensely.

THE TITLE SCREEN!
Title screen and attract mode are really well done.

It would be very nice to play this game with the data packs. But unfortunately, Nintendo decided that their servers are going to suck tonight and I can't download anything without it stopping due to errors.

Is it worth mainlining story missions as much as possible until you get a Skell, or with this lock me out of worthwhile content?

I'm really only bothering to pick up Affinity missions and missions I find from people in the field. I have a bunch of bounties too, but I really don't want to spend much time with the MMO quests on the questboard otherwise. Is there anything worthwhile hidden in there?

edit: "worthwhile" is presumptuous. I mean missions that have some interesting story content or novel enemy encounters that aren't just "find X resources".

Gonna stop for the night after finishing two affinity missions that got me the half of the dlc characters. Gonna attempt some of the other affinity missions before going to chapter 5 tomorrow.

Is it worth mainlining story missions as much as possible until you get a Skell?

Each story mission generally has some additional requirements before you can access them like explore % of an area or do X affinity mission so by design you have to do other stuff anyways. I'd suggest just playing at your own pace no reason to bum rush to get skells.

Ok, seriously, fuck whoever decided to not let you have any way to repair a skell if it's destroyed during the final battle. It's clearly designed with Skell's in mind, so I pretty much have to reset anytime I lose too many in one battle

So I think the best way to raise a teammate level is bring two high level characters and two low levels and let the low levels be a deadweight?

It's frustrating that I want to finish missions with different characters yet they keep dying on mobs.

Kinda wish the friend list squads would've shown NNIDs, I only recognize a few names since the rest are probably character.

I've been recruiting player characters out in the overworld, so thats a cool feature. Its nice that they actually take their leave after awhile, but arent most people going to just have 3 npcs in their party regardless?

Or can you recruit someone mid mission if they force you to start with only 3 total party members?

We should probably start adding people as friends if they want to go squad hunting.

Just went into a squad battle against a
Telethia
and it was damn fun playing with 3 other actual players.

thanks for the infos! I'm up to chapter 6 but I tried fighting a same level 23 cinicula and died I was SHOCKED!! who is a debuffer? I'll add Irina for healing but I bet I am not using a debuffer whoever that may be lol

Double check your skills, debuffs and status characters are ones that inflict sleep, stagger, shock, lower evasion, etc.

Debuffs and statuses are pretty useful.

How is everyone else handling armor for party members? Stick them with the the armor that provides the best defense while being picky about what armor, brand, etc your player character uses? Or are you basing armor on what might be a npc's character's role and possible class?

I'm at a point now where there is enough equipment options open where I can be selective based on the class I'm going to run as. Yet it's time consuming figuring out everything. Just wondering if I can make equipment the other party members easier.

Post chapter 9 / pre chapter 10 stuff

Started Alexa's affinity mission and holy shit, this is what I get for being too scared to go through Cauldros. At least I found the place that drops them. Also getting stuff done to recruit Mia. She's too good. At this point, I think I'll only clear the affinity missions that net the first art for each person. Too much work and the risk of being overleveled by the time I get second arts before beating the story.

I guess I'm not where you're at because armour choices right now seems pretty inconsequential. I've been just letting the game auto equip what it thinks is the best stuff because scrolling through what seems like minor changes in stats is not worth the effort.

Does the artbook have any Tanaka character art in 2D? I'm pretty sure they didn't release any media like that and it makes me sad.
About 10 (short, wide) pages of B&W sketches, 2 pages of color illustrations. Nothing quite as detailed as character portraits from Xenogears, or stuff from Perfect Works.

Does this mean you cant use add on packs for the game (or DLC) if its saved to a portable HDD?

Heh, that's nothing. I accepted a Basic Mission that wanted 3 of an item that spawns on the far side of Cauldros. I haven't even started Chapter 6 yet and I decided to soldier through on foot. Really hard to find the path through that region and several unavoidable anti aircraft turrets along the way that could take out my party super fast. But I made it! I also found the entrance to the giant castle that has final dungeon feels all over it. Made it pretty far in before security escorted me out :p

In Data Management you can copy/move stuff to or from system memory.

Basically once an external hard drive is connected to the WiiU the system seems to priorities it and basically ignores whatever is on your internal hard drive. Discovered this the hard way when I plugged in my external and my save file was "gone" because it and the data packs are saved to the system itself and not the external :|

If the segment map has a mission icon does that mean there is a mission you can get from a quest giver in that segment or just that some mission, from somewhere, happens there? Cause I feel like I've searched a few and found no missions, but might just it be being thorough.

Ah so it checks the external first. Thats good to know for future DLC stuff too.

Btw when posting free reports, do they only pop up when a player crosses that area?

i have no xenoblade data on my internal
there's a 85mb xenoblade file on external for some reason

and i guess i have a 2gb package in 'temp' that my only option seems to be to delete it only

oh, apparently i can't move or delete that 85mb xenoblade file because the 'software is being downloaded or updated'

never trust nintendo with tech, they have no clue what they're doing

So! Alexa's recruit mission.

They expect me to just swim all the way to Sylvalum like that, huh?

There is a land bridge in between, it's not on the map though you can kind of see where it is looking at the world map there is an odd tip of Primordia that points to the bottom tip of Sylvalum.

I did that. Heck, I did it even before I had access to a skell, so it took quite a while to get there.

Whoever suggested implementing an auto-run toggle definitely deserves a raise, since it's perfect for these kind of situations where you leave your characters running while you go set some probes on the gamepad or whatever.
