Final Fantasy 5 Four Job Fiesta 2014: That Classic Taste [now ending]

Yay started my run for this year last night. This is my third time joining and I'm just going for regular and berserker risk this time. First job is thief, was hoping for a monk but I'll take it because it's new job for me.

It's gonna be tough going through Ship's Graveyard though... as Tule don't sell knifes O_O

Team Natural Random Berserker Risk is set. Knight, Berserker, Red Mage, Berserker.

Should be fun.

Tomorrow I'll get team regular Berserker risk set.

I started my run today and got Monk to start. I flew through everything until Garula wrecked my team fast. I went in and just used Focus on my next attempt and was fine.

I got Summoner second, which I'm not too familiar with, so it'll be fun when I pick it back up tomorrow!

I've got Blue Mage / Summoner / Ninja / Samurai, so my run is not actually difficult in the least. I will be trying for pretty much all the blue magics and summons, just for fun though. I've just arrived in W2. Goblin Punch with a dual-wielding Ninja is AMAZING.

Man God- where do you go for Flame Ring farming? I only had the patience for 1, I'm curious about what you do. Also, 2 Zerks, an RM, and a Knight? Seems just hard enough to be interesting for you.

So thinking late on in my game. Black Mage should be able to use thief knife but then again is there anything worth stealing for White, 2xMonk, Black?

I made it to the start of Walse tower and so far Monks are basically doing all the work with the occasional blizzard spell and cure thrown in. I got the Elven Mantle and thanks to quicksave only had one battle...which knocked out 2 party members and damaged the remaining. No sense taking risks so first Phoenix Down of the run used.

The nice thing about having all your classes unlocked is you can sell unnecessary equipment early on (things like the Ashura sell for a good amount).

My third team is Thief / Time Mage / Ranger / Dragoon. The same jobs as the first but with a Time Mage instead of the Berserker. It seems that now that I've got a Thief and a Dragoon for the first time Gilgabot is trying to make me hate them by repeating.

At least I don't have a Berserker or a Red Mage, though, so I shouldn't complain too much.

Third World START!

imR1aoHQM2Z87.png

Pretty easy, just give Berserker Dragon Power to make him super strong.

Got the Chicken Knife, fully-powered already. However, I did need to grind in the desert to get !RapidFire.

And that's why I wanted !RapidFire. Onward to the Pyramid (Probably the only World 3 dungeon I'll do).

And my last job is..... Another berserker? Guess that's what I signed up for.

So the final party is white Mage. 2 berserkers and a mystic knight...

Any tips? I don't think I should have many issues taking down ex death but I wanna get the 2 extra bosses this time.

I'm guessing !White for everyone? Any equipment I should look into?

Defeated Siren with my White Mage party. That was fairly quick and easy.

Now on the world map afterwards and I can already tell this is going to be slow getting to the Water job.

You don't have a whole lot of synergy outside of giving !White to everyone, so yeah.

Berserkers: Death Sickles, definitely.
White Mage: Well, Mystic Knight doesn't have anything other than the critical shell skill, which isn't really worth it since you can cast Shell. MP+10% is probably the only thing worth it.
Honestly once you get Holy you're set. And getting there shouldn't be all that rough either. You shouldn't have many problems since you can heal everyone and set up protection.

As for the extra bosses...not sure if you'll be able to do that, short of levelling like crazy and having the MK bash at him with Thundaga Sword.

Where do you get Death Sickles actually?

And yeah that's what I though but still. Is equip axes worth it for the extra strength?

Also Purobolos are giving me lots of trouble, I'm trying to silence them but they keep exploding on my face.

Edit nvm, lucked out and got em.

Harvesters on Crescent drop them.

It could help with strength, but personally having another caster for healing might be good. At least for the mid-game.

After running face first into the Byblos wall - unable to win that war of attrition with my L19 Thief/Berserker/Knight squad - going to regroup back to the Fire Ship and stockpile Hi-Potions until Level 21 while building up towards Two-Handed on at least two of my characters (who will become my Berserkers in my next Byblos assault).
This strat worked like a charm. Byblos rolled over quick to my L21 squad and pair of Two-Handed 'Zerkers. Quickly took out the Sandworm and nabbed some Death Sickles on Crescent Island and am about to tangle with Cray Claw.

I'm fairly certain I could have avoided the L21 grind that Link Man also had to deal with had I bagged Knight as my starter job and Thief as my Fire Crystal gig instead of the other way around. Would have had Two-Handed on my entire team at that point and likely could have mowed Byblos down a lot sooner. Ah well.

The nice part about having the Knight/Thief jobs to supplement Berserkers is that I have variability in how they attack. Do I need strong, powerful 'Zerkers for a boss or quick, speedy 'Zerkers? Will make for some nice flexibility once I unlock Artful Dodger.

Actually, Equip Axes could be nice for your White Mage, as both Gaia Hammer and Rune Axe take the magic stat into account.

Okay, ready to leave for World 2. Are there any specific reasons to grind up enough cash for any of the elemental rings before leaving, or can they wait until after World 2?

Well, one of the most useful places for the elemental rings is in World 2, and you can't buy them again until World 3, so this is a pretty good point to decide if you want them or not. Does your team have good healing and/or elemental defense abilities? If not, you might want to considering getting a set of rings.

Not only that but by the time you get to world 3 you get access to the one relic slot item that generally outclasses the flame ring; the Hermes Sandals and they also cost 50k each (though there is one you can easily find)

I usually avoid buying Flame Rings in world 1 at all costs, killing all those wolves is so boring. I only needed to do it once and I feel that it was enough.

Oh Schala, having a Knight and Berserkers in the same team and not being able to transfer Two-Handed must feel terrible.

Yeah, 80% I just keep my thumb on A because I know there's nothing else to really do unless I decide to use a Monk ability. It really sucks because I know Berserkers can kill with Two-Handed.

I'm at a point where, because Monk's strengths are tied to its level, I don't know if I should keep low-levelling it, or just suck it up and level Monk up a bit so she could keep up. It's a wonder how I even got past the Purobolos fight, and I took the extra time to get a Flame Ring. I dunnoooooo.

I thought my Black Mage/Berserker/Beastmaster/Dancer Natural/Berserker Risk/Random run last year was boring, but hell no. I'd rather have that party back.

I can't even see the appeal in Natural. Where's the fun in discovering synergies between different class abilities if you can't switch between them?
Kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me unless you're just looking to give yourself the most inflexible challenge possible.
Maybe with versatile jobs like Blue Mage or Ninja it could be fun... but otherwise?

Freelancer is a nice luxury when you're doing random/berserker risk and somehow get classes where you can't cast spells or break rods, hence why Natural could be appealing. Two years of doing Natural has honestly made me appreciate Freelancer way more than before.

At the same time, the downside is that you can't equip sub-abilities which suuuuuuuucks.

Heropon

Ah yeah, being able to use that early katana thanks to having a freelancer felt good last year, but that doesn't compensate at all not being able to share.

If in my next run I get three no750 jobs again, I'm doing a 750 random next. Gilgabot should learn that variety is the spice of life.

What's the useful place you speak of in World 2?

Sounds like I'll be grinding. My healing is minimal, and I don't think my team can make use of many elemental defenses apart from shields.

Not sure if it's faster to kill Karnak wolves, or bury the Crescent Town vendors in Death Scythes, but I'll try both.

wolves have less than 100 hp each and no defense or evasion to speak with. If you can kill them in one move like a fire rod boosted fire or a single kick it'll be faster to do it that way.

With certain parties I just put berserk on everyone and do it with the most accurate weapon I can find.

No access to any group casting (except for breaking rods, which would defeat the purpose of gold farming).

I feel dumb for leaving the Ancient Sword on Galuf when he split. Using Coral Swords is unpredictable thanks to their element, which means I'm falling back to Mythril Swords.

I always forget how to get past drakenvale, around the part where you get the bone mail. You get to a room with two levels in which you gotta press a switch. I feel so dumb.

Right, you gotta drop in that hole...

Agree with y'all, grinding gil here is just slow as sin. Though if the drop rate decides to be nice, it's pretty satisfying to sell a stack of 8 or 9 Death Sickles for ~25k.

Dunno if I can handle grinding 600k, though, argh. Not sure it's worth the pain.

The useful place is the
crystal fight
. Lots of full party elemental attacks thrown around in that fight. Unless you have a means of defending against those, that fight can be overwhelming.

Oh wow, yeah... THAT battle. Ugh. I vaguely remember having trouble with that even without Fiesta rules.

Maybe I can get by with just 2 Flame Rings and 2 Coral Rings, then. I see no reason to bother with Angel Rings quite yet.

Just got my 2nd Flame Ring, and I can grind no more. Off to World 2!
That's some hardcore grinding right there.

Gil grind goes away once you hit the Gil Cave. Make a few runs of that and you've got little to worry about on that front.
Of course, that's not available in World 1.

I had about 30k naturally before doing the Soul Cannon fight (I don't spend much gil), so it didn't take long to build the rest up for the first ring. I built it back up to around 20k from that and the Meteor hunting, so it took a little longer afterwards.

Dark Schala

...what.

By then, I had like 7k gil and that's because I barely had to spend money. Then again, by that point, I'd been playing the game for like 4-5 hours.

So far my jobs are Monk, Mystic Knight, and Beastmaster. Two of those were my main jobs in Final Fantasy XI, so it's almost nostalgic. Having BST made the Sandworm fight go fast.

The Liquid Flame fight took me about 18 minutes of one Berserker attacking while the 3 Thieves in the back row struggled to keep everyone alive with Potions. Used about 85 Potions total. At which point we decided to ignore the Queen's plea to rush and save the crystal so we could run back to town to restock our Potion supply, glad I did since I know I used more than 8 Potions on my way through the burning castle escape.
Only grabbed the Elven Mantle, Main Gauche and two 2k Gil chests on my way out. (Ribbon is useless to my Team No 750) Managed to steal two Mage Mashers from the Sorcerers, as well.

Party now sits at Thief/Berserker/Ninja/???.

Going with two Ninjas for now, I think. Spreading out the Masher love, only had to grab one Kunai to fill the second Ninja's off hand slot.
I don't remember ever really using Ninja before, kinda excited. Any random tips I should know?

You can steal Hi-Potions from the poltergeists in the Fire Ship. One of the biggest early-game benefits of a Thief.

Thank you for pointing that out! I don't know how I skipped over that when I was looking at the enemy list for potential steal targets. Good reason to go back to the ship, I need to get some exp anyway, I just happened to hit 15 and then remembered Lvl 5 Death is coming up! :D

Oh, as for Ninja, Dual-Wield is a decent ability for a Berserker. You could give your Thief Equip Axes and a Twin Lance, and your Ninja Mug and the Chicken Knife. Or give your Thief Throw and a Main Gauche, put him in the back row, and have him support your party with potions while throwing Shurikens and Fuma Shurikens when able. Throw is also a good ability for a mage, as the elemental scrolls are tied to your magic stat (though this won't help you in this run). Finally, if your Ninja knows Equip Axes, it can tear most enemies apart with two Twin Lances (somewhere around 3600 HP per turn without taking defense into account).

Oh, and Smoke is identical to Flee, so which one you use is up to preference.

Gah, just remembered Image. It's identical to the Blink spell, but it also takes up an entire ability slot and can only be used on the caster.
