Evolve Big Alpha Impressions/bugs/glitches thread

Tried for almost an hour to get into a ps4 game last night and just got home from work and I'm trying again, still just crashing.

...I was not aware that was a thing. Still, it definitely killed the pace because we had scoured the map quite a bit before giving up.

Ya it's kinda a stupid design decision.

A good monster means it's 10-15 minutes of people doing nothing but wandering around. A bad monster is a game that lasts 2-5 minutes. Neither are fun.

Agreed, even though I've basically had no issues with matchmaking on PC.

My one complaint is that there was a point where the monster we were hunting wasn't moving, so he wasn't leaving tracks or scaring birds and Daisy didn't seem to be able to find him. There was no way to find him, so we just waited by the relay for like 8 mins until he went into stage 3 (he was really slow with evolving, too..), showed up and rekt us.

Sounds like your monster was just really good, haha. I do agree they need to give some better way for Daisy to track down your prey when they're being super sneaky. The unlocked tracker has radar spikes that works really well, though. And the robot support character has a robot drone you can search the map with, too. So keep playing and you'll get better ways to track 'em down.

Has anyone been succesful getting into a match on PS4 the past 2 hours? I have legitimately been trying for 2 hours straight but the game keeps crashing over and over again. :\

What a cluster fuck on PS4.

I was really hyped to play this alpha, but having played some matches, I have say I'm seriously underwhelmed. This game has some great ideas implemented in way that puzzle me, starting from the controller layout. What I particularly dislike though is the impression of continously running in circles without having the means or the necessary awareness to learn the map. When the replay is shown at the end of the match I'm always surprised by the results.

It is such a useless power. I wish Goliath had some kind of status effects like Hunters have with shit like Harpoon guns that make you as slow as a turtle, explosives, etc. The only thing Goliaths have is Fire Breath but that doesn't really do much and would eventually get healed back up by a decent Medic.

Rock Throws should stun or slow down targets when hit by it, or an ability to grab a hunter and throw them. I mean the monster has hands right? Use em! XD
Yeah. All i play as is the monster and is it is people get mad that I rape them with Kraken but Goliath sux and is a definite loss against a team that knows what theyre doing.

This is the best game.

Don't think there are many better teamplay experiences.
Borderlands...left4dead...have decent elements but none of them require such individual specialization and role focus. Like it's so important that people are doing their jobs.

Goliath can be brutal still - and picking Kraken is cheating.

Same here, been trying for oven an hour. I give up.

You are not alone there man. I'm pretty much the same way. I average about one game per 2 hours lol.

I have a feeling that at launch it will be yet another anomially where the game will work fine on PC and XOne but will struggle hard on PS4 for some unforsaken reason.

I think you need more coordination for sure to actually handle Kraken at all, but Goliath doesn't feel weak or anything to me.

Daisy is useful when you totally lost track of them. If the trapper stares/runs at Daisy she'll sprint in front and pick up the trail again. She seems to actually get confused if she's ignored for awhile but I don't know if that's intentional.

But if all 4 members of the team are just running after her they'll never do well. At that point people should split up, the trapper could keep going down her path while others try to cut off a route based on the map, then the monster usually attacks or backs off which is where maggie comes in with the dome.

She is MVP as hell when she goes around reviving though, lol

I've really struggled with a great team with someone who knows how to play him (Goliath), lost 3 times in a row with level 20s on my side...think I recorded it. Recorded loooads of Evolve, will miss it while it's away.

A really good monster is going to wreck you at level 2 about five minutes into the game. Kraken is easy mode.

I haven't actually played this game, but it looks to me like playing as the monster is super stressful. Even though the monster is strong, 1v4 would have me nervous.

You know what this game needs? A Bot match mode.

Just basically one player (You) and the rest Bots. That way, you can practice just some basic stuff so you can get the hang of the controls.

It would be great especially for potential Monster players who want to learn how to climb, run and kill more effectively.

The full game will let you do this, along with an apparent actual tutorial. I agree that it should help a lot, it can be hard to learn things on the fly in actual MP settings, especially something with a decent amount to take in like this.

HOLY CRAP, I GOT IN A GAME! AFTER 2 and a half hours!

I have to cherish this match...

I actually lost as a kraken finally. I am a disgrace to this world.

Fuckin' on point medic with tranqs.

and its done.

It is, but somehow I am on my third consecutive match! GOD IS REAL LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

I haven't left my group so I guess that's helped. So for PS4 users out there, if you actually get in a game, DONT EVER LEAVE IT! EVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEERRRRR! XD

Just played 2 matches, need to play a bit more to get a feel for it but playing as a Trapper was pretty cool with the dome thing and the traps.

This is accurate.

I had a match like that where the medic was constantly tranqing me and I couldn't fly at all. I was already level 3 though so they got wrecked, but they did get all my armor and a small chunk of health.

Jesus christ, that's really sad when you think about it.

Trapper is by far my favorite class. Love using Harpoon traps and feel confident trapping him with the Arena Dome.

Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get to be able to use the British guy where I just harpoon gun the monster's sorry ass. :D

The Kraken really is like god mode for monsters.

The Behemoth is pretty powerful but at least since you're on the ground you're pretty vulnerable if the enemy team knows what the fuck it's doing. I've had a bunch of matches come down to the wire with him.

Kraken meanwhile, you just dominate the other team.

Was pretty pissed today when I finally started my PS4 just to see that it didn't finish the alpha download.
Seems like that was the least of my worries though. The game already crashed 7 times on me and I haven't even played it. It always crashes in the matchmaking process and only once I got further than the red circle, but somehow a player always dropped.

I get that this is an alpha but come on.

Took an hour to find my first game on PS4, and after about 4 minutes (literally JUST as we found the monster) we lost connection with the host. After 20 or so minutes trying for another game I gave up. In the very brief time I played the two things that stood out were:

Pro

Presentation. Really like the visual design of the humans and aliens, the menus are slick, and the sound is great.

Con

The guns really lack that feeling of 'oomf'. I played as assault and neither the rifle nor the lightning gun felt like they had any real substance or impact.

There are errors that will crash it, happened to me this morning.

A good monster and hunters is a 15 - 25 minute match with 2 'in the field' engagements and a penultimate uber battle at the power relay.

I have been wrecks easily by hunters at stage 3 full armour for not engaging them elsewhere and knocking some health off. The key is for the monster to be sneaky or fast then when built up to meet the hunters. Before running off to evolve. Hunters job is to keep up the pressure, scour the map and try to spook the monster into making mistakes (birds, tracks, trapped.) Even though you dont think ur getting a head on the monster everytime they react to your nearby presence(unbeknownst to you) is a chance you can get the upper hand.

I recomend fanning out a little, head in the same directions but take alternative routes, high/low outdoor and indoor (not too far) and youll usually at least get a glimpse of the monster.

Those constant suspense matches are the best!

Wow. My reaction was so different. Almost every match is a blast for me. The gameplay is very much fully-formed, basically demo level, matchmaking issues aside. If this is the worst alpha you've played, you have never played a real alpha. Just no way.

Unlocking new characters for the classes changes almost every weapon/skill. The monsters in so far are very different from each other (with some balance issues with the Kraken, although I've beaten it 3/3 times I've faced one so maybe it isn't as bad as people claim). Map knowledge gives both monster and hunter players a huge edge, like good hiding spots as a monster and good places to split up and corner monsters as hunters.

All the game is missing is content and working matchmaking. In a way, it's like a more accessible Natural Selection: two completely different sides facing off in asymmetrical battle. I love it so far.

I'm playing on PS4 and I think that explains a lot.

This medic was right on me at the start which actually made it surprisingly hard to get anything going. No other way to really pull from the pack, I only managed to get to level 2 and had to fight with no armor. Still shook them up a lot but even in combat being hit by that was messing with me, so I got killed off there. I was thinking Laz was the way to go against the kraken but didn't realize how much work that could do. Val + Griffin would be brutal.

Still, holy shit is lightning strike crazy. Someone went around a corner and I was basically able to just drag it around pretty blind and snipe them, lol.

Is there an NDA for the Alpha? Guessing not since they didn't disable Share functionality.

After about 3 hours managed to get into some games. Had a game as a medic and then the support with the beard, managed to win before the monster evolved to stage 2. Then played as Goliath, managed to get a win. Dunno whether I was better than other monsters or whether the hunters were just not great as the teams I was on. Had a sticky engagement where I got trapped at level 2. Managed to survive it fairly easily before moving off to evolve to stage three. Finished with an epic battle at the generator. Made sure to record the Goliath game. Will be uploading it shortly for anyone interested. Just waiting on a super slow data transfer from PS4 to memory stick. :[

Initial impression of game: Fix matchmaking, needs more monster variety, can see just three getting stale pretty quickly. Also AoE templates are a pain to use with a controller. Needs to be arc based targeting like grenades in Uncharted / TLOU rather than how they've handled it currently. It's pretty impossible to tell where you're aiming those rock throws as Goliath.

HOWEVER: The actual game itself is fantastic and I love both the concept and implementation. It's immersive and competitive and is full of pretty awesome details.

Lightning strike + Vortex = Hell for the hunters. Add Banshee Mines on top of that and I actually start to feel bad for them.

So just had something a bit interesting happen.

Start of the match we drop out of the ship like normal, except the Support, for whatever reason, glitched out and just straight up falls from the drop ship and then dies on impact with the ground. So we were down a hunter two seconds in to the match. Guy had his mic on and didn't seem too happy about the outcome lol.

Similar thing happened in one of my matches. While the dropship doors were opening, the medic player disconnected and Val clipped through the floor a second before we jumped out. She was doing the regular fall animation instead of the sky diving one and landed without dying.

Is there a missed connections for this game?

I keep running into a group of players (I know they'er a group because they mention mumble.) I wanted to add them but I see that Steam hasn't been saving players I've played with :(

You can try looking up their names on Steam.
My PS4 has been looking for a match for the last 15 minutes. At least it doesn't crash, i guess :/

Cancel and try again?

I think this game is really neat, and I enjoy playing it throughly when I do get to play. But as others have said, the load times are back breaking in this case. I found myself specifically holding back from killing a monster who was shitty simply because I didn't want to only play for five minutes and endure another 15 minute load time.

I love the levels, I think the character are neat and the gameplay is fun. But I'm not going to sit through these load times if the final version is like this. I also think that asking $60 is a bit much for what's being offered.
