Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Finally got a chance to start the game. It's alright so far. Wish I was able to bend, but whatever.

Question: Do the two secret outfits do anything or are they just cosmetic?

Do not get the low review scores at all. Just beat the game and it was such a fun ride. I got way more enjoyment out of this for 15 euro than I expected after the initial reports and reviews. Loved the fighting, combos and visuals. This is probably the best license game I have played in this millennium.

I can see why the reviewers disliked the game to be honest. It's cool combat, a fun little bonus mode and literally nothing else of value - empty levels, ugly graphics (kinda saved by the celshading, but only kinda), abysmal story, WTF Naga stages. Reviewing it as a whole package and not just for character action fans, it's not looking pretty.

Hey guys I have a problem. Trying to play this game in steram and it WILL NOT enter full screen mode and demands to run as a fairly small window. Is this aproble,m with anyone else?
Alt+Ent doesn't work

EDIT: Korra requires it to be changed through the in-game settings, first time I have experienced this! Sorry!

All outfits are cosmetic

Finally done with my Extreme run. Wasnt that bad with the exception of the Naga boss. It took me like an hour to beat it...

I dont think Im gonna bother with the Pro bending matches. I already had some problems with the last Captain match...

Aarrgh! Finally defeated the 3 benders at the point when you only have Water and Earth.
Took me like over 20 tries. I was mainly using Water Bending. But damn took me 2 tries when I relied on Earth Bending!

They always want you to use whatever element they just introduced obviously :p

Those guys suck against Earth. Try to keep one of them on screen at a time (others won't attack since they are off camera) and mash away. If they try to counter with that QTE thing then that is also free damage for you.

Same here, really enjoyed it except for the Naga boss. timing the jumps on those horizontal barriers when the mechs are turning is impossible.

Also ace level pro bending isn't too bad, didn't seem much more difficult than captain level to me.

I never enjoyed pro bending in the show, but the in the game it's kinda fun.

Sorry for bumping, but this seemed to be the right place to ask.

I've been looking to get into Platinum's other games, but I feel like I need to be a bit better at action games first, in order to fully appreciate Platinum's efforts.

Would this be a good game to start with? Or should I go back to playing Viewtiful Joe on Dolphin, or perhaps learn the basics with another game entirely (not necessarily from Platinum/Clover)?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I wouldn't recommend this as your first Platinum game. It's the most basic and limited of combat systems they have done besides the Wii game Madworld.

If you have a PC, get Metal Gear Rising and if you have a Wii U, get Bayonetta 1 and 2. Wonderful 101 is also on Wii U, but it's a very unorthodox game that is different from the rest of the genre.

Go with Bayonetta 2 + 1 first. They offer plenty of ways to ease yourself in if you're not great at action games. If you don't have a Wii U, Metal Gear Rising is the one to start with.

One tip: play for fun and don't pay any attention to your rankings until you're very comfortable with the combat system. That goes for most of Platinum's games.

Went through the pro-bending mode today and currently going through extreme mode. It might have been because I had my bending maxed out, but I didnt think probending was as difficult as this thread made it seem. Not to say it wasnt challenging, but I didnt feel it was harder than any of the difficult portions in normal mode.

Currently on the Naga boss fight in extreme, and yall werent lying about that being super fucked up good lord

Apparently different teams in Pro Bending are more difficult than others. I tried for about three hours to beat the last match on Ace (no luck), and last night I tried again and couldn't even reach the last match. This is with all my bending maxed, just making absolutely zero progress whatsoever. When it's just a maelstrom of projectiles, two useless AI partners and a targeting system that seems to just select a random guy when you try and switch targets, I'm pretty sure it's all down to luck, and I obviously don't have any. Ten times harder than anything on Extreme mode for me.

I must have stolen it all because I managed to platinum the final ace fight on my first go.

You son of a bitch :p

But, anyway, I just gave it one last go and, sure enough, beat the final match on the first go. I was up against the Buzzard Wasps in the final match, if that makes any difference to anyone. No idea if they're one of the easier teams because I wasn't paying to the team names during my failed runs, but they went down really easily. Mako and Bolin managed to knock some dudes right off the back of the platform while I wasn't watching, so I guess all the stars aligned for me.

Took like another two hours of farming chests to find the last treasures, but I finally got my first Platinum Platinum Trophy :p

^Likewise.
I dislike that I can't go back to stage select after starting the boss, and then quitting =_=

Any tips on beating the final boss? Any particular item combos I should be using?

I beat him totally item-less the first time. You can get good at recognizing his attacks and then countering.

If you do want to totally break him, though, use the talisman that puts you at maximum chi, the one that heals you, the one that keeps you from getting knocked back when you're at max chi, and the one that adds extra hits to your attacks. He should die pretty quickly with that game-breaking combo.

Finally got enough Spirits to buy the item which keeps your Chi maxed. Together with the item that adds hits to your attacks, the item which prevents any kind of stun or knockback and the pseudo-Witch Time item I finally FEEL like I am the Avatar. At my first try Hundun took me over an hour, now with this item combo (second try without any additional training inbetween!) I platinumed the Chapter while barely getting hit at all *-*

Regarding Pro-Bending - I only lost one match (3rd match in Ace mode) in which I got silver as a result, Platinum in all others except the Final. Final Match in Ace mode was the only one I didn't win via KO. Bolin and Mako really are suprisingly competent if you maxed your bending, they often threw one of the opponents off the ring before we even had secured the first area, even in Ace mode. That's great if it works, but if they only get the opponent to the last zone before the enemy inevitably manages to knock me back...welp.

Just got the platinum and finished 4 playthroughs altogether.

For me this is my personal GOTY this year, as I've always wished for an Avatar game and it turned out exactly like I wanted it to be. The elements are all really great and each bending style is captured perfectly and is amazing on it's own or in combination with the others.

I hope that if we ever have the luck to get a sequel, it gets many new moves. The base is already perfect. Would be even cooler if the bending depends on and affects the environment.

Like others said you really feel like the avatar once you maxed out all bending styles and adjust yourself to each one. I really loved demolishing my enemies with a mixture of each element.

I'm thinking about buying it a second time, just to support it.

Please give me a game in which you play through the exact story of TLA and Korra. Would pay whatever you want !

Actually the lack of any environmental attacks is one of the biggest missed opportunities in Korra, IMO (all budget talk aside). The environment always played a great part in both Avatar and Korra, with some benders always heavily dependent on it, and led to lots of creative combat scenarios in the shows. In the game it feels like bending is completely disconnected from Korra's surroundings.

You should play X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which is 1000 times better than this game.

As much as I like the show, this game is frustrating at times. I quit playing the game today, because I can't beat the two spirit bosses in Stage Six.
I know I can fight them with a counter attack, but the camera is so bad, that I can't see which one of the two bosses is attacking me. After 20 tries I gave up and will never play this game ever.
Too bad, because I had fun until this point of the game. :-(

That part is straight up awful and I honestly don't get why on earth Platinum keeps designing combat scenarios where their trademark camera issues completely wreck the experience and then release that shit like nothing happened. I refuse to believe a single tester got through that fight without problems.

If you ever do go back to the game (I ragequit at that part too, then came back a week later and beat it on a first try for whatever reason), I recommend concentrating on one boss, manually rotating the camera so that he's the only one on screen (which should make the other one stop attacking you) and fishing for parries till he's down.

That part's actually a total cakewalk if you just abuse Korra's magic, omni-directional parry. The camera's obviously terrible, but you don't even need to know which enemy's attacking you. Just watch for the red outline that means an enemy's attacking, parry at the right moment for the counter, thwack both sticks up and you're golden. It might take a bit of practice to get the timing down for the perfect parry, but it's a pretty loose window. Spam Airbending's heavy move and parry and you can get through without being touched every time.

After a couple of days, I tried to beat the game on Friday and somehow managed to win the fight against the two spirit bosses. The camera was still as bad as ever, but somehow I managed to rotate it just like you said Nemmy and I used a LOT of counterattacks. The last boss was easy in comparison. I'm so happy, that I'm done with this game.

I'm glad you bumped this thread. I picked this up to play with my 5 and 7 year old daughters and it's been a fantastic game we can all enjoy. Such an amazing value.

I recorded a couple tracks from the game because I couldn't find them anywhere and they were too good to pass up.
Note that I don't think these tracks have any officially released names, so I'm just naming them as I see 'em.

"Professional Bending"
Plays for a criminally short amount of time in Chapter 1, and in certain rounds of Pro Bending mode.

"Treads on Tundra"
Plays during the "Mecha Tank Trio" boss fight.

"Deal With It!"
Plays during the "Mecha Tank Trio" boss fight when only one enemy is remaining.

Finished this today, loved everything about it except for how short it was, the Naga sections do a great job of breaking up the action and pro bending is super fun, wish they delved into blood/lightning/metal bending though

I need help apparently.. or should I be playing this on easy the first time through?

I'm on the air temple level and I'm getting absolutely destroyed by
the 3 triad dudes
and I feel like I can't do anything at all. Trying to block, but failing miserably at this part and otherwise just not able to do anything right now.

What difficulty are you on?

What helped me out was just playing through the game on a lower difficulty and being able to upgrade all my bending first before tackling Extreme.

Anybody know how well this sold? I really enjoyed this and would love to see an expanded sequel. Though something tells me this might be it.

I'm on normal. I'm generally enjoying the game but I feel too slow to fight those guys.. and having to do it multiple times... bleh. Do you keep your bending level across difficulties?

Yes. And once you go through the game again, you can use all of your bending. It makes everything a breeze with airbending/pun intended.

I've been playing and enjoying this for a few days now and I have one thing negative to say. Fuck the Naga boss battle in chapter 5 on Extreme difficulty.

I mean holy shit, what were they thinking? I sounded like James Rolfe after trying to finish it for an hour. I'm taking a few days break before I try again.

Yeah, I skipped the section and just completed the other chapters on Extreme. The margin of error is ridiculous.

It's just a matter of learning the tells and then being fairly on point with your reactions. Its totally masterable.

So is being a fucking blackbelt in martial arts. No way in hell would I bother though.

I never bothered beating that, if your not perfect then the game immediately shuts you down. I'd much rather play the actual good parts of the game.
