Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

Yeah, this is good for those who don't own or haven't played these yet. They're all absolutely excellent games and I recommend them to anyone who missed out on them.

I would gladly pay $60 each for HD remasters of Galaxy 1/2 and the Prime trilogy. The Galaxy games in particular are begging for an upgrade.

I hope this development doesn't mean they're entirely off the table.

- They will be available half price for a limited time period
- They show up on the Wii U menu
- Games compatible with the Wii Classic Controller Pro cane be used with Wii U Gamepad
- DKC Returns is available too
- Punch Out instead of DKC returns in Europe

Does this mean you can play the game off-TV without a Wii Remote? This is the real megaton if so.

Shame they are merely ports, I didn't play the SMG because of the Wiimote controls so I guess I will still don't play them.

As for MPT goes I'll have to see some videos first.

I can see not wanting to play Skyward Sword, for example, because of Wiimote controls but a Super Mario Galaxy game? Estupido.

I was ready to buy a Wii U after reading the thread title. But Metroid is not converted to HD? No thanks.

Sometimes I feel as if Nintendo doesn't want my money.

Already own Prime Trilogy so not buying that, but was planning on getting Galaxy 2 again anyway so will definitely pick that up.

I seems like HD resolutions would have been advertised more clearly if that was true, but could Nintendo have added post processing anti-aliasing? Well, I guess we will learn more when we download galaxy 2 today.

So for those with questions, this is what I believe it is;

- Direct ports of Wii games to Wii U in digital eShop format.
- Bootable from the main Wii U menu, avoiding having to activate Wii compatibility mode.
- Standard 480p resolution as per original hardware. Games are not rendered higher.
- Wii U GamePad compatibility for titles that had Wii classic controller support. Wii Remote specific titles will not be GamePad compatible.

In short, they're more or less direct ports. That's it. They are not rendered at a higher resolution. They do not have Wii Remote controls hacked to the GamePad. They are as-is, just in digital format, bootable from the Wii U menu, and in the case where Classic Controller was compatible use of the GamePad in its place.

So they expect me to play the introductory game, Mario Galaxy 2, on the gamepad with a wiimote? Seems like they could just patch the actual Wii game file if all else fails? But unrecognized hardware and all, I dunno. If this is the case, I'd feel mislead.

I lost my copy of MPT when I moved out of my old apartment, it´s great to finally be able to finish the trilogy (I couldn´t start 3). This is great!

Already have SMG 2, but not Punch Out or MPT. Really been wanting to play MPT but always held back due to the price. So happy about this news!

Prices are good, but no HD makes the service unappealing, just because my beefy computer handles Dolphin well. Prime Trilogy is the only temptation because it's a bit busted in Dolphin. Otherwise I'll pass.

Huh? You'll play it on your TV. But yeah, it's just like having a Wii. Only it's a Wii U.

Guys, this is just the next step in Nintendo VC lineup... These aren't remakes or upscales... Go whine to Sony for not having all PS2 games upscaled as well while you're at it :p

So I guess this means I still can't play Galaxy 2 without a Wiimote? I still own the game, but I don't own a Wiimote anymore and playing SMG2 for too long hurts my wrists (any Wii-game, really), so I was hoping for a Wii U-port that I could play with regular controls.

I've got the 3 Prime games on disc...but the digital versions for that price is a no brainer. Really want to know if it has off-tv play.

That Kirby tease was a bit much since it's rather expensive in the EU and a cheap price would have been nice.

But £10 for Metroid can't be sniffed at.

Just just replayed DKCR that other day so no need for that.

How does Prime hold up against time?

In for SMG2 @ $10. Played and beat it already but experiencing it again should be fun.

Hang on. Game needs to have classic controller pro support to be playable on the gamepad. Neither SMG2 nor MPT have this. So really it's just the ability to buy the Wii game digitally?
