Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

Does/did Wii game in question have Classic Controller Support? Y/N

If Y: You can use the Wii U GamePad to control.
If N: You cannot use the Wii U GamePad to control. You must use Wii Remote.

Your Wii game-of-interest that does not have Classic Controller support has not been patched to transfer Wii Remote controls to the GamePad.
Is this for real???? If so awesome!!!

Edit: nvm read that wrong

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen, Sin & Punishment 2 is coming out for crying out loud.

Watch the eBay prices plummet for every rare to find Wii game.

MPT is definitely there to gauge interest in Metroid and curb 3rd party sales of old games. $10 is a steal for 3 good games.

meh... seriously how hard would it have been to do a simple HD upgrade? sometimes Nintendo baffles me.

Ask Sony about that with their PS2 classics... It's a lot more work than simply flipping a switch which is why they did several remasters.

My biggest wii gaming regret was not buying Metroid Prime Trilogy when it was $39 on amazon thinking it wouldn't be that limited....excited for this!

It would be nice if Nintendo would add Gamepad support to those Remote-only games, but it will require serious amount of work and I doubt it'll be happening any time soon (or ever).

All this does is make me ridiculously excited for Nintendo's next home console.

I truly hope they turn it into the ultimate Nintendo system which is backwards compatible with all previous six systems. I also hope they let you carry that library with you to the 8th generation and others in the future similar to Steam.

I can see it happening since they mentioned wanting to be similar to Apple and Android in that regard as well as having the ability to have games similar to what Mario vs Donkey Kong and cross-buy.

Interesting times for Nintendo... This can be either be extremely good or just okay.

What about Wii U Pro Controller support?

I mean, it would sound logical.

This is your typical Nintendo nice idea undermined by an half-assed execution.

Can I play Metriod Prime Trilogy with a controller? Or do I need a Wii-mote etc?

EDIT:

So for those with questions, this is what I believe it is;

- Direct ports of Wii games to Wii U in digital eShop format.
- Bootable from the main Wii U menu, avoiding having to activate Wii compatibility mode.
- Standard 480p resolution as per original hardware. Games are not rendered higher.
- Wii U GamePad compatibility for titles that had Wii classic controller support. Wii Remote specific titles will not be GamePad compatible.

In short, they're more or less direct ports. That's it. They are not rendered at a higher resolution. They do not have Wii Remote controls hacked to the GamePad. They are as-is, just in digital format, bootable from the Wii U menu, and in the case where Classic Controller was compatible use of the GamePad in its place.

UGH

Do you know what's funny? NONE of the announced games are compatible with the Classic Controller Pro, so the GamePad functionality is almost entirely pointless. Super Mario Galaxy 2 requires the Wii Remote. Metroid Prime Trilogy requires the Wii Remote. Punch-Out requires the Wii Remote. Donkey Kong Country Returns was allegedly announced during the Japanese Direct, and that also requires a Wii Remote. Only Nintendo could do something so half assed.

I've accepted the fact that N64 games aren't coming, so I might as well go buy a RetroN 5.

Well, I'm disappointed that the games won't be displayed at a higher resolution, but I'm still going to buy Metroid Prime Trilogy again, $10 is definitely worth it to help show Nintendo that people are still very interested in that series.

Galaxy 2 I might re-buy too, if just for the convenience factor, and $10 for such a convenience isn't too bad.

Will Metroid Prime be updated to use the Nintendo Network instead of the dead WiFi? Otherwise there's some (minor) features you can't access.

i feel like they wont even waste their time on smash and mario kart considering their are much better versions of those games on Wii U.
The VC already has old Mario Karts on it.

I'd rebuy MKWii just for restored online.

Wait, so i need a wiimote for all the games, like if they were the wii discs ones? So theres nothing new? I thought the image of the controller ment I could play with those or the gamepad.

Fuck off then. I would have loved to play SMG2 like that, but I already have it on disc.

Maybe I only get the prime trilogy, and nothing else.

Metroid Prime 1 and 2, can they be played using the gamepad? I don't know if they had the classic controller support.

If not, I will unfortunately pass and stick to Dolphin.

By the way, assuming these are processed entirely using hardware BC a la the GBA ambassador games on 3DS, that throws the entire argument of not selling GBA games on 3DS due to "not up to Virtual Console standards" completely out the window.

The Wii U hardware design (cpu/gpu/ram) is based on the Wii hardware design.
The 3DS hardware design is not based on the GBA hardware design.

Wii U playing Wii games downclocks its cpu/gpu to Wii specs and plays Wii games 100% accurately.
3DS plays GBA games via emulation.

I think GBA games should be on 3DS. The 3DS ambassador GBA games played mostly fine. But Wii U playing Wii games is not relevant to the issue.

Yeah it makes no sense to show off games that can't be played with the gamepad. At least announce games that can be played with it. Nintendo going to Nintendo.

For 10-20 considering they could have just told people to screw off and pay 70-100 on ebay? No chance they were doing something so "simple" for a fraction of what they could be selling you the game for, considering their games actually still sell for full retail.

So Galaxy 2 isn't going to look any better than it did on the Wii, correct? Damn shame. Might still buy, but disappointed they couldn't up the resolution.

Didn't see the EU version (forgot about this so watched the NA version on youtube so i could scrub to the start). Is that pricing legit? They will be £17.99 at full price!? And half off for us for 1 week!? So Metroid Prime Trilogy for £8.99!?

Does this mean Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn is even more possible?

Or at least Radiant Dawn, because that would be whoa.

That's what I was thinking. WHY DO YOU EVEN SAY IT? Good god Nintendo, stop teasing us! You want to add value to the Gamepad? Add stick or touch controls to these games, I'm not even asking HD ports anymore.

The implementation of this promising idea is really half-baked.
Looking forward to cheap Metroid Prime Trilogy all the same.
(Already have SMG2 on-disc)

3DS actually plays GBA games natively. It does contain hardware descendant from the GBA, it needs it for the DS backwards compatibility. That's why you can't access a home screen to use system functions or read the manual.

No... 3DS plays GBA games identically to how the Wii U plays Wii games... by locking down hardware. Not emulation. 3DS IS based on the same hardware as the GBA (3DS uses an ARM11 which is 100% hardware compatible with the ARM9 ((DS)) and ARM7 ((GBA)))

Metroid Prime Trilogy for 10 bucks is too good. I'm gonna get a eShop card right now to prepare myself.
Already have all the other announced Wii games.
