Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

People are being ridiculous. I have no ideal how this would work without pointer controls. They would have to code over so much and change so much of how the game is used.

If people would sit and think how the wiimote was used in the game think how to translate this to the gamepad they would realize it just wouldn't work.

Maybe using the stylus? Then people would complain still.

Stylus wouldnt work either, the game relies on Pointing and jumping a lot, maybe if the mapped tapping on the screen to jumping, but the transition between having hands on the buttons and getting the stylus would be atrocious.

As you said, they would have to change so much of the game, it really isnt the scope of this release at this price. Im glad we have it at all, I have been looking for used copies of Galaxy 2 for a while and couldnt find anything cheaper than $30, so this is welcomed.

I was thinking about replaying the entire Prime trilogy just the other day so this is definitely very, very good news! Other than Corruption I've never played them with pointer controls so I am ALL OVER THIS.

So Galaxy 2, then Punch-Out, and then Metroid Prime Trilogy at half off for a week each. That's pretty amazing.

I sure hope they keep these discounts and regular weekly uploads going, I need to buy more Wii games and would be way more willing this way rather than paying $20+ for used retail copies.

Nintendo dragging SD games kicking and screaming into 2015.
Are we really complaining that Nintendo is making their system backwards compatible and allowing you to download previous generations games onto their console for a reduced price?

Because I'd throw Playstation Now right down the shitter if Sony could have done this instead.

Incredible news. Glad to see Prime Trilogy available at a cheap price for those who haven't been able to experience it.

They just want an excuse to complain.

Sony releases Ps2 games on PSN with no graphical enhancement: Big News, OMG, Can't wait

Nintendo releases Wii games without remaking them in HD and adding new controller options?: Well thx for Nothing Nintendo

Eh? The WiiU has always been BC with the Wii.

This is Wii games available digitally, nothing more nothing less.

This. I'm not thrilled about Wii games not being able to use Miiverse, but this is still pretty excellent. A big part of the reason I don't have a PS4 yet is because I can't play any of my PS3 games on it reasonably.

I've beaten SMG2 on my original Wii and disagree. I haven't played it on a PC, but people emulate that functionality fine without a Wii remote from what I can gather. Stuff that hobbiests implement for free. Probably using a mouse if I had to guess, something the touch pad would probably be great for. Triple the price? Are you serious? It would be incredibly minor programming and even if it wasn't 100% ideal, it wouldn't mean the Wii remote couldn't remain the preferred method.

I'm not saying that they can't map actions to different buttons. I'm saying that they wouldn't want to put their name on a severely gimped control method. They would need to rework the sections of the game that require pointer controls. There are many sections that require you to be moving, jumping, and extensively using the pointer at the same time.

I know, he's complaining that Nintendo is still pushing their SD games, which somehow implies that being able to play Wii games on your Wii U is somehow a bad thing. Whether it be by downloading it or popping the disc in, it's still a far better option then either of the other consoles give us as far as BC from last generation goes.

Can anyone clarify if Gamepad controls are for all Wii titles that support the classic controller on WiiU? Or just the eshop re releases?

Am I right in thinking that purchases will fail if there isn't enough free space on the drive?
I.e. I can't buy them now whilst they are cheap and download them at a later date?

How easy would it be to unlock the resolution on these Wii games? Unless they're gonna emulate them, which they're not, I think it would require a fair amount of work, but I'm unsure.

How big a black frame are we talking? Anyone have s screen?

this is an old screen but borders look the same:

Metroid would be great.

I am sure the answer is in this thread but for Metroid can you use the gamepad for it to do everything? Im reading conflicting things.

I'm sad Galaxy 1 isn't up because I've been wanting to play the Galaxy games and it feels bad to start at 2, but 2 is also £9 and that's cheap.

Will disc version be compatible with the gamepad?

I want to know that too, i want to play my disc versions of Xenoblade and Last Story on the Gamepad.

If it will be compatible, it will need a firmware update, at the moment it still doesn't work (tested with Last Story).

Well, they've apparently added Classic Controller emulation when playing on the Gamepad - so that is something. Although hopefully that gets added to the regular Wii Mode, too. Then it wouldn't be limited to titles digitally re-released.

Did Metroid Prime Trilogy not support the Classic Controller? Man, that's a bit a disappointment but I'm not going to complain when it's only going to cost me £9.

Downloading Galaxy 2 now, even though I already own the disc. I just want to see how they compare and if saves are compatible etc...

I think it's more that Sony has released a decent amount of HD ports over the years and Nintendo hasn't. It's free money nintendo!

Only the eShop re-releases.

I'm getting mixed signals regarding this. One the one hand, implementing such a feature would require a system update and Nintendo mentioned none of that during the stream. On the other hand, none of the three games announced during the stream are compatible with the Classic Controller Pro, so it makes zero sense to announce the feature alongside those three games if it only applies to Virtual Console games. Any of the games announced for other regions uses the CCP?

They are still widescreen at least?

OMG that fuzziness when I zoomed out that picture lol.

that's Wii U Wii BC for you.

the original was a .bmp source taken with a capture card and the console set for 1080p output. can't get better than this.

I finally plunked down cash for the Metroid Prime Trilogy during the last Gamestop B2G1 used sale, and of course this comes along...

Happy for everyone else though. These are great deals.
