Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

Already have SMG2 on disc, so buying the digital version is fucking pointless. Maybe Metroid Prime trilogy.

Wait....totally forgot there's an analog out hahaha.

I could simply use that for my setup. Even simpler than using Toslink.

I assume the audio can come out both HDMI and Analog at the same time? Or at least set it up to have video through hdmi and audio through analog?

Correct. You can have the audio come out through HDMI only, Composite cables only (sold separately, the Wii cables work), or both!

Can we get a mod in here to clean up posts like these please? You never see these threads when new titles are launched for PSN... so why do we have them with Nintendo and it's VC?

No joke. I raced to the Wii U eShop(I still have it up on screen right now) ready to buy it, but when it's not in HD, when it feels like such a missed opportunity. Seriously, Nintendo have the chance to join with HD re-releases of old games that can make them look incredible. But they aren't.

The direct overall was frikkin' awesome and I'm glad we're getting Wii games in the VC, but not in HD is just...meh.

Also, QQing to mods because you don't like my post? Pfft.
"We should only ever have posts that praise Nintendo"

That's pretty neat.

Hopefully Nintendont developers will find a way to use the GamePad as a Classic Controller Pro, just like Nintendo did for these Wii re-releases.

Waiting for the Canadian eShop to update. I want to play some SMG2 dammit!

Galaxy 2 doesn't support GamePad controls, does it? Would love to play that game in bed, but Wiimote & Nunchuk aren't a particularly great fit for that.

Well, it's a mixed bag using the 360 controller with Dolphin and the MG games. Scooping up stars isn't as easy with the right analog stick, but everything else is better.

Once you play DKCR with a 360 controller and no waggling required you'll realize the developers were giant fucking pricks for not including classic controller support.

Mandatory gesture controls are the worst thing ever except for maybe cancer and HIV.

For people who already have Galaxy 2 - I assume this has no trouble picking up your saves from Wii mode?

===

What's everyone's wish lists? I'd be great if 3rd parties joined in the fun too, but based off the Wii U virtual console, that doesn't seem likely.

Quite possibly they disabled the Wii U menu when running these games as it would conflict since you can't turn the game's Wii Menu off since it's hard coded into the game.

Don't fool youself: your quoted post wasn't a good post, not becuase of your opinion but because of the way you posted it. now you explained your point of view and it is acceptable.
It must be noticed btw that these are VC release (even at a good launch price, looking at other VC prices!), so tech-wise they ARE Wii games.
HD-remaster are something different.

No, they have a custom Wii home menu rather than the Wii U's one with the browser button.

Poo. Oh well. :P Would've been really neat. Especially if at native res, well, they would be if snapped on the GamePad which is 854x480.

Edit: Oh wow, just realized, these won't have Wi-Fi unless Nintendo had pixie dust to use Wii U's Wi-Fi with them, so they will be online-less so Brawl and MK Wii, among others, will still be not what they were on release.

I do wonder if they'll release an update to have these display at >480p. Probably never, but I'm just happy to get a shot at owning these for cheap and I guess that's what matters most in the long run.

Sure beats retail, but meh for anyone who already owns the games. I'll probably still grab Trilogy to show Nintendo we still care for a good Metroid game.

Yup, you can have analog and HDMI audio output.

What's the gamepad resolution? Sucks that the games will be in SD, but they will look just fine on off-tv play.(that is if the gamepad resolution is 480p).
Sucks for people who want to play the games on a bigass tv tho.

Heck, bring SNES to 3DS too. We have NES but I'd buy Earthbound right away if it was available on 3DS eShop. I don't have the time to play JRPGs at home anymore.

Not sure if they run that well. GBA and DS games definitely don't have any issues running on 3DS hardware.

I was just giving this thought.... I know one of the reasons why Metroid Prime will be provided as a game because of it's high used game cost and rarity. But why specifically Metroid Prime? Is it maybe because there might be a new Metroid Prime game going to be announced?

I don't think that's possible. The games are running in Wii mode, which means that the CPU and GPU are running in a mode identical to Wii hardware. There isn't any additional horsepower available for a higher resolution.

Nintendo already shut down the online for Wii games, last year I think.

Oh man! Will be getting Metroid Prime Trilogy, I have played all 3 prime games, but I only actually have the third one.

Don't know if I should get Sin & Punishment, its like of 2 games on my backlog, the only reason I haven't played it is because I have no T.V.

480p and Wii games look very good on the Gamepad as they have been able to be displayed on there for some time.

If you have a tv in your bedroom I wouldn't say that. SMG 2 does not use it that much and that nunchuck Shake is a pretty small motion...

When playing a Wii game, hitting Home still does the "Yo you're in Wii mode" thing. When you quit the game, it reboots the entire system.

I think they

1) Found a way to get Wii mode to interact with the gamepad
2) Found a way to boot into Wii mode from specific Wii U apps
I think it's running in Wii mode, with some new lines of code embedded in the game that allows read Gamepad button imputs as Wii classic controller inputs, that way you didn't need a system update, will know if cc compatible games let you play Wii disc games from gamepad once Pandora's Tower, S&P2 are released.

It's crazy to believe this'll cause the physical copies to drop in price, right? They'll probably go up now...

I think it will actually go down in price, a lot of people actually bought MPT to play it, it was the only way to get Widescreen + other enhancements.

The only buyers now will be true collector that care about physically owning discs, demand for it will soon diminish for sure.

not sure why Nintendo cannot solve these things pre-hardware launch but I do like how they kept improving Wii U features

if it works the way you are saying I wonder if this could be a gateway to Homebrew hacks coming to the Wii U side

I find that putting my Wii U in 720p (on a 1080p monitor) makes Wii games look a bit 'better'. At least the jaggies aren't as sharp? I don't know if my eyes are fooling me.

Wonder why we can't get GBA/DS games on 3DS if Wii games on Wii U eShop are also possible.

well, up to a few hours ago it was because the system couldn't emulate them well and had to resort to walled-off BC.

after the Direct and these Wii games announced? no excuse. it can be done the same way.

They'll stay around the same price.

The collectors market will be unaffected.

Not only that, but this 100% unaffects Wii-only owners. So really there's no need to drop their value.

As a Wii U owner, I might be able to get some nice dough on stuff like Xenoblade if that comes over as well, that's really expensive at a store I frequent.

Almost certainly just because the Trilogy is an ultra popular Wii game with an incredibly small print and could make a lot of money via a digital release. I doubt it has anything to do with a new Metroid.

And maybe they're also making Mario Galaxy 3 and a new Punch-Out?

Or maybe it's just because it's collection of great games.

I want the following:
Rock Band 3 with a newly hosted music store (this will never happen, but maybe RB4...)
Twilight Princess
Skyward Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Rhythm Heaven Fever

Release these all at $10 and I will buy every single one of them.

don't do this to yourself.

Really hoping for DS games on 3DS myself. Would adore grabbing games like Puyo Pop Fever to cure the Puyo extinction in the west.

As far as GBA games at least I always suspected it's because closing the lid for sleep mode doesn't shut the 3DS down. They might be afraid of kids leaving the lid closed and running the battery down in a couple of hours while it's in their pocket. The ambassador audience is pretty limited, small risk pool.

MS and Sony. Are you thinking of something different?

Oh right, full priced remasters, like how Nintendo have already done with Wind Waker. These are Virtual Console, though, the old games uploaded digitally. I don't recall any of my PS1 PSN games getting a higher resolution.

Tatsunoko is a 100% no go since the license officially expired early last year IIRC, Capcom announced at themselves. :( Unless they go through the effort of signing up for it again for this purpose, it's not happening.

So for games that don't use CC, this is functionally the same as my hacked vWii with all of my Wii games on the hard drive, right?
