The Witcher 3: 1080p/30fps on PS4, 900p/30fps on Xbox One

bullshit. if MS and Sony both offered more competent and beefed up consoles at a premium price only, people would still buy them. Sony and MS coud of gotten away with releasing consoles with better performance at a $500-$550 price range and they wouldve sold fine. i biy consoles for the sole purpose to play with friends or else id have moved on to PC. it really shouldnt be that hard to release hardware capable of running most games at low PC settings at 1080p 60fps in 2013/2014/2015, but Sony and MS really cheaped out on these systems .

You think that having bleeding edge specs comes cheap for these companies without taking big losses? Think again.

No need dig. It was posted earlier. What else are they going to say? All three platforms are likely receiving late stage polish and optimization. Resolution scales nicely with GPU power, so the odds of them magically being up to push 50% more pixels without making major sacrifices elsewhere is veeeerrryyy unlikely to happen. This is the kind of game the PS4 loves. Tons of alpha effects and geometry with a lot of physics likely being run on the GPU. It's not some last gen port like GTA or Destiny. If CDPR are truly taking advantage of each system, and there's no reason to believe that they're not, then it's physically not possible for the both console versions to be the same.

I highly doubt CDPR is putting significantly more effort into the version that isn't going to sell as well.

You forgot Diablo 3. Goodluck to anyone who thinks CDPR can somehow increase the xbones resolution to 1080p. No amount of optimization, sdk, ms engineer who created dx, cloud computing will help them.

I agree. If people think this is bad for Xbox One now? Just wait until all 3rd party companies starts moving away from last gen development completely, & once more brutal gaming engines starts coming around.

Lol xbox one launched at 500 usd and it sold fine.

Also most games on low? Fuck that. Alot of games on ps4 are already at 1080p 30/60fps with almost high setting at some. Others probably higher than high, which is what youre right now.

Those people should get over it then. As said, plenty of options for consumers today. They can speak with their own wallets. You should only buy a product if your sure that's what you want and what you are happy with. I'm not a crony capitalism sort of guy, but, the market will tell Sony and MS what they should do going forward.

In my eyes(and this is only personally), the gaming libraries for these consoles as well as the economic side of things(IE pricing, deals, marketing ect) will determine their viability going forward, not their technical specs.

You don't think what has transpired will have anything to do with that? I mean in MS's case they went so far as to free up resources and sending engineers out to get 3rd party games as close as possible to the PS4 version. The perception hasn't been good for them lately. This is what i mean. They don't want to deal with that again.

eh most ppl i know are happy with their consoles. you have to realize many console owners are comparing to ps3 to ps4 or 360 to x1. If youre comparing to pc and youre the type who has a souped up rig youre already know the specs and what to expect (of course im sure first parties will really push the hardware anyway). I'm a comp sci major and I dont want to make the investment into a huge gaming rig because quite frankly it doesnt represent value for me. I'm happy playing mp games like cs dota on the pc (which most rigs can run) and for other games im happy with what consoles can manage. I dont need super awesome flawless performance.

Having said taht the issues on broken games etc is a whole other issue and not to do with console power that is certainly annoying.

EDIT: on a related note my friend who does play often on a souped up rig actually doesnt buy consoles till later in the cycle where enough quality first party exclusives are out for him to make the plunge.

I'm happy with the way some PS4 games look, i can see the improvements from last gen, but i'll be lying if i said i wasn't thinking about what the hardware could of been. The games will continue to get better, i just think it would be good to have something new that's never been done before instead of having some people feeling like they're still playing on PS3 and 360. People do respond to good graphics.

That's what we had though. A lot of consoles from these companies have tried the power route already. Now they are trying a more efficient route. That's trying something new.

As for playing on PS3 and 360, it depends on the game obviously, but 'next gen gameplay', is up to the developer, not the hardware itself. I can bet even with twice the power of today's consoles, the mainstream publishers would still be churning out the same kind of games except prettier.

I said to me right after that part you zoomed in on. I honestly would have to have them side by side to notice, and that's exactly when I realize it's not enough for me to care.

Scaling artifacts are visible a mile away whatever the tv or res.

Whenever I fire BF4 up on the ps4 it sticks out a mile and is instantly noticable. I like BF4 so I don't worry too much but it would be a lot better presented at native resolution.

I have a Sony W series TV before you ask. It's scaling capabilities are one of the best in the business.

Now the GPU and CPU can communicate in a simultaneous two way conversation we should see impressive stuff over the course of a few years. We still don't have huma capable PCs really, it's one area that PS4 in particular has a big edge.

The consoles are selling yes but i'm constantly reading people being disappointed with these consoles in terms of performance. Not just on gaf. And how many more articles are we going to get about a game with a frame rate or resolution issue and looking nowhere near as good as the PC version? These things gets noticed these days. Sony and MS are happy with sales but are they happy with the way their consoles are thought of performance wise? I don't think so.

Just looking at this a different way.

The thing is, not all people want the best graphics/performance.
Not all PC gamers play on high-end PC with all ultra settings. Console and mid-end PC gamers are content with average graphics/performance, as they get what they paid for. If you want the best experience, buy an expensive PC. However, the problem is that the devs are pushing the limit based on the high-end PC settings, so the differences are noticeable.

Does anyone know have the devs committed to giving the same post release support to the console versions as the PC version? Like they put out some insane patches for TW2 on PC, can we expect the same for consoles this time?

My card doesn't got the rec spec anymore so thinking of going with PS4.

Sounds good. Hope it's a solid 30 FPS even if it means degrading a few graphical effects. Already plan to picking the game up.

Sounds good to me too. Now only thing that is left, is for DC Project to include an option to remove that hideous UI they have in their games.

Seriously the kind of imerssion breaking UI causes is second to none really... All this information in your screen is certainly a cockblocker to me.

"ranging from long hair to dense fur"

long hair!!

so will this be the first game to use Nvidia hairworks for human characters?

Of course it matters. Even though some people can't tell the difference, it's on the back of their mind that that they are not the getting the full potential of the game unlike the other. For example, you are given an option to pick one of a twin sister to date. One is phenomenal in the sack and the other lays there like a rag doll. In turn the XBOX owner will be smacking their faces thinking what could have been if they picked the sex queen. IDK, maybe I'm wrong or I need to go finger-bang something. LOL.

so it seems, judging by the abuse I got for saying I couldn't really see the difference its obvious im not allowed to say that - I get how this site works now

Unfortunately because it's multiplat the devs won't have gone the extra mile and push the physics further on Ps4.

Hopefully this changes in the future.

"Tech Master" eh? Let's see your tech master skills determine how a GPU that struggled to maintain 30 fps in The Witcher 2 at 900p is going to run The Witcher 3 at 1080p. Show me the secret sauce.

What has my username got to do with anything?, I don't know why so many people are getting so upset about my post, what did I say that was so bad?

How are people taking the "visual parity across all platforms" comments?

Absolutely disgusting if you ask me, screams laziness, unless of course its PR for Microsoft's benefit.

Because our posted something that a "TechMaster" would understand the difference of. Saying that an image will be up scaled to 1080p is silly. Because why not just upscale a 640x480 image to 1080p? Calling a 44% increase in pixels nothing is very untechnical.

It's like me calling myself a Cricket Master and not knowing the difference between a No Ball and a Wide Ball.

Looking forward to my first Witcher adventure. Let's hope there's no framerate drops on PS4. I want it to be as consistent as framerate in Destiny.

Because the irony is delicious. It's like someone calling themselves Chef Master, says gravel tastes delicious and then turns around and wonders why everyone's giving him weird looks. Your opinion may be that gravel tastes delicious and opinions cannot be wrong but in this case, your opinion is wrong.

There is a difference between 1080p and 900p. About 44% actually.

It's noticeable but more importantly, it's quantifiable.

If you can't see it that's between you and your optician but don't come to a thread in a forum dedicated to the technical aspects of videogames and ask "errrr, does it matter?"

It's just that reading your name one would think that you not only see the obvious differences, but you would encourage them. Anyway, it's a joke.

My "Techmaster" username is not me implying I know everything about console hardware, its nothing to do with that, but anyway.

Of course I know there is a percentage increase in pixels 1080p vs 900p, my point was I sit 10-12ft away from a 55" TV when gaming, I don't notice much difference when playing 900p upscaled vs 1080p native - that's all I meant - I didn't mean to upset anyone

They were on stage with MS and have a marketing deal. Theyre going to be careful with PR and "visual parity" sounds wonderfully precise while bring vauge as to what it means.

I cant really blame them. Timing suggests they aligned more with MS early on expecting MS to be dominant in core Western markets. So theyll be careful becuase of deal and relationship while knowing so long as PS4 version is solid and they come across mainly neutral they should sell fine on Sony platform. After all on consoles only 360 owners have experienced any of story so far and theres asking some people to join in at number 3.

I think they've handled themselves well PR wise overall evrn if they took some heat over the extras for MS: its a tricky gen for devs for deals so far. And in particular deals with MS naturally get more heat.

I kid. Welcome to NeoGAF. Wish I had the Gif on me. Morning all. Only 100 pages so far come on!

See guys? You see these last 20 pages?

This is what Ubisoft wanted to avoid.

Push for parity: everybody bitches
Drop the resolution on the Xbox One to compensate for the lower system specs: everybody bitches

You just can't win either way.

Well from what I have read, there is a difference between each platform and a noticeable one at that, reported in several articles. I'll accept it looking the same on all platforms when more people report that that is what they saw and I see it for myself

It won't look identical if you push PC settings to the max. We have devs saying on record PC has additional graphical effects. Tessellation, better post-processing, Hairworks, GPU Physx, HBAO+ at least.
