Fantastic Four Trailer # 1

my biggest fear right now is getting hyped on the take and it ending up being just superheroes saving the world in a same ol formula.. which.. is pretty much confirmed ain't it

fox being worried about it actually hypes me up tho. here's hoping this is weird as fuck

should have just given it to cronenberg lol. we would have gotten some ang-lee hulk levels of misunderstood greatness.

anyways this trailer was interesting to me, and that's not what i expected when they announced a fantastic four reboot so they already kinda won me over with it.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
definitely looks like they're taking inspiration from the Ultimate Fantastic Four comics

They tried to do "to the letter" versions of Fantastic 4 in the past.
They were both awful.

I am much happier to see them trying something that is at least potentially more interesting than another generic fantastic 4 movie.

Looks okay. Better than expected. Still skeptical about the actual quality.
Eh why is it so dark and depressing? That's the same shit that sunk Man of Steel for me.
Superhero movies can be tonally different from each other. That's a good thing, not a negative.
Just noticed this bit in the synopsis:

So much for that new and different twist!
Yeah, but what do you really expect? These are comic films. I think all of them have been about Earth/Universe/Cities destruction and a personal struggle mixed in between.

For those wanting this to bomb so marvel can get back doom and galactus; consider how well marvel has treated their villains so far, then consider whether you want to see galactus and doom like that.

No they didn't. In fact, they're some of the biggest offenders of changing shit randomly. It's one of that series heaviest criticisms. Doom and Galactus are some of the worst translations of villains in any comic book movie to date.

It would be better then what we've already gotten from Doom and Galactus from the studio it's at. At least Galactus would be a giant man and not a cloud.

Was that the Negative Zone?
That's the assumption

To be fair, they didn't "totally" do 'to the letter' adaptations... Mainly because of Doom. But yes, tonally, they were absolutely going for something closer to the comics than this.

And I agree, this speaks to me more than another Fantastic 4 movie 'of that type'.

That's actually a very cool thought-the FF are essentially victims of horrible body-horror nightmares. I want to say I did read some take on it in the comics that hinted at it-maybe it was Planetary?

That super realistic take on Marvel via the journalist's eyes comes to mind; the one where the Hulk is just basically a huge mass of gamma-radiation sourced tumours.

Neither of those movies were anywhere close to what a Fantastic Four movie should be. They were in fact "generic," which FF is not.

I'm certainly not against trying a different approach to the comics. It's an alternate universe after all. But let's try to make a good movie while we're at it instead of taking the license and doing whatever the fuck you want with no regard to source OR quality.

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!

Marvel's villains have been mostly good, other than Ronan and the Dark Elf.

But he would be as forgettable as Malekith, Red Skull, Robert Redford, Jeff Bridges, or Whiplash.

Forgettable is better then remembering them for how badly they were done.

Also, Red Skull and Redford were pretty good. Bridges/Whiplash were victims of Iron Man's weak rogues gallery. They aren't particularly memorable villains in the first place.

Fucking Goosebumps. Was that never released to the general puic.

That is how you do a Teaser

It wasn't released to the public, someone recorded it on their phone at the Marvel Studios event where they announced all their films until 2019.

The best part is the audience going nuts over the title "Infinity War" and then somehow going ever NUTTIER when Part 1 and Part 2 come up.

I don't like the guy playing Reed Richards much. Ioan Gruffudd was amazing in that role.

*goes back to watching Forever reruns*

There has only been three good Marvel villains; Robert Redford, Winter Soldier, and Loki.

That's it. The rest has ranged from shit to tolerable.

And so my worst fears are confirmed. As with MoS, they took a superhero (team) that isn't supposed to be grimdark and made it grimdark.

Brilliant.

And wow The Thing looks fake as hell. Suddenly the 05 suit doesn't seem that bad...

grimdark? this hardly looks grim at all lol. maybe they should sprinkle in some quips and smirks to sate the fanboys.

i also hate the term grimdark so wehhh

First minute: Trank credits Bryan Hitch for the UFF origin arc, which he had nothing to do with aside from drawing covers. smh

I caught that too. I'm thinking he conflated the UFF origin run with Millar/Hitch run of the regular FF series.

Also I think the trailer looks really good. Hopefully the film is good too.

I like the look of this, but it's just a teaser. Definitely withholding judgment but my interest just went from zero to a little bit.

I think if this ends up being successful, they're gonna try to merge it with the X-Men universe.

They definitely look similar enough.
Yeah... I'm thinking this will be a moderate success. The film at least looks well produced, and it has the Marvel branding (as well as X-Men) to hide behind even if it's misleading.
