Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Yeah, it lets me preserve the fact that the gear only started with one or two slots and I added more with Spyke. So when I share it with people they don't get the wrong impression that it was 3 star gear to begin with.

I made some dumb decisions but that was just because I could, with what I had, in those few hours I had access to the Spyke glitch.

Ah, I thought so.

I might use the knowledge I gained from my Pokedex Excel and Monster Hunter Excel to add some things for myself, like a main page with:

- Clothes Gathered/Seen.
- Ability Slots/Max Slots Available.
- Set Builder for Easy Glance.

I really hope the modes don't become randomized once they add more. Its one thing to have the maps randomized on rotation, but if you have the modes randomized as well thats just too much. Imagine wanting to play splat zones after coming home from work only to realize you can't because splat zones isn't available for the next 4 hours and you'll have to go to bed by then. That would be infuriating.

I doubt they would do that, but I'm sure they are keeping tabs on how many people are doing what. Adding new modes will further split the user base. I'm sure Turf Wars will never have any issues, but there are many people who want nothing to do with Ranked already. The whole point is to make sure games are populated quickly.

After an intimate "splatter session" last night my boyfriend rolled over and said "Good guys win!"

I'm in love! hahahahaaa

Hehehe this is Amazing. :)

Played the game about 20+ hours now.

My main issue with this game is some of it's ridiculous specials. I'm sorry, but making players invincible for any amount of time has no place in competitive matchmaking (bubble, Kraken). Also, the lag + Japanese players are ruining this great game.

I don't know anything about the games balance. But, well...the Bubbler is a good counter to the Kraken. And the Kraken, you can escape it if you aggressively dive into your ink and swim away quick and lose the player (I love doing this, and knowing they are pissed off). I do think some of the specials are really mediocre in comparison.

I understand this. It doesn't make it any less annoying though. I'm frankly sick of running into a team that just pops their bubble and Kraken over and over. It's just not fun to play against. Invincibility buffs are silly.

Singleplayer campaign is complete.

Inkling Girl Amiibo missions are all complete (oddly enough I found the final boss much easier with the charger. Not too thrilled about the abilities my school uniform gear has ended up with though).

Played a little multiplayer and I'm now up to level 6. I've quickly learnt that controlling the high-ground in the centre of Blackbelly Skatepark is extremely advantageous! Well, as long as no one on the other team is using a charger.

I've found that I'm actually pretty fond of the N-ZAP '85, for Turf War at least. The high fire-rate and reasonable range suits me pretty well.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as dismissive. I can understand your frustration. I really love this game, but I think it has kinks to work out for sure. Sometimes people get specials way too early in a match, and that can be really frustrating.

Personally, my biggest issue with the game right now is matchmaking, and how they divide up teams. It's been way too common for me, where matchmaking will put all the low levels on one team, and it makes no sense, when they are playing with levels 14-20. I know that your level in Turf War doesn't = skill, as a bad player can be 20. But at least in my experience, usually when a team gets all low level when playing high level, they get rolled hard.

I guess in general, my experience with Splatoon has been that, really close games don't happen as often as I would like (although Ranked kind of fix's that), and a team usually wins substantially with the other team getting crushed. And usually that team has two or more players doing 200 pts each.

All this said, purely anecdotal experiences. And I know nothing about matchmaking balancing. It's just been my experience.

Rollers with Kraken are my biggest nemesis in ranked. I've adapted my playstyle around taking the opponent rollers out. The trick is to prevent them getting the special in the first place, there are certain areas rollers always seem to flock to and well, I go there to contain/kill them with my long range assault weapon and it works very well (unless they are Japanese and lag)

If they collect ink at the base then you can just 4v3 the zone, so it works out either way.

About to pick this up, any tips for just starting? And is it a good idea to get through the single player campaign first?

The singleplayer will at least help you get used to the controls, but you don't get to try the different classes of weapons.

Just remember that only the floor counts. The walls don't score you anything, and you're gonna be playing Turf War, not Team Deathmatch. You don't have to go hunting down the enemy.

What's the consensus on the Jr. Custom for ranked matches?

I personally use normal over custom. I guess my playstyle is more aggressive. But also with people using ink strike to take over territory, I can counter that and stay there and instantly take it back with the bubble ability.

So for me, the bubble special has worked out better.

Edit: guess my mediocrity is showing. Someone below posted why it's a strategically good weapon. I just need to get better at this game.

I love it, although I've since switched to the blaster

disruptor bombs are so crucial as is the echo locator. that weapon set paired with ninja squid works really well.

I mean, the special is worse than Bubbler? Or is it strategically better? I tired custom Jr. and quickly switched back to normal Splattershot Jr. I guess my playstyle is more aggressive. But also with people using ink strike to take over territory I can counter that and stay there and instantly take it back.

you can be just as aggressive, you've just gotta land a disruptor bomb first.

I edited my post, but clearly I'm using custom wrong. I'll try it again. I'm still stuck in Turf mentality, which is probably why I keep losing in ranked. But I'm really glad I have this thread as I feel I can learn and get better. This is an example of me not understanding how to use a weapon/ability right.

Awesome! I have to try this out.

I really hate...HATE...the News update once the game starts. Go away and let me dive right in. I don't care. I have no control over which stages appear anyway

My only gripe about the game. They should give us an option to press Start to skip, was cool at first but gets repetitive seeing it all the time.

I finally got around to playing the game today. Single player is a lot of fun, but I have yet to successfully connect to a single multiplayer match. I've spent most of the afternoon messing with my router's settings, but I can't get the damn thing to work. At this point, I'm hoping it's a service issue, because I can't think of much else I could do :(

Regarding custom Jr.

You might find that lag prevents you from making good use of distruptors.

If you want the echolocate special with a Jr I'd suggest the Zapper 85 instead (IIRC this has the same stats)

I might just love the disruptor bombs. like I said I switched to the blaster which also has disruptor bombs. they'll give you an audio cue if they hit someone so it's easy to hide in ink, lob one out, and then hide again to hear if it did the trick. then you move in for the splat.

Kraken is fine because you can just run away as long as you have a line of ink going away from the Kraken, and the Kraken is always going to be slower then you are in your squid form.

The bubbler is a bit unbalanced because it doesn't really have a downside. It doesn't take away the offensive weapon, so you can't run away because they can just cover your getaway stream, plus they can't be damaged.

The '85's spread is more compact than the Splattershot Jr. For some it's not necessarily as optimal in terms of covering territory.

I think everything you said was 100% sound, and actually made sense. I wasn't giving the abilities a fair shake (especially for that mode). I actually want to get good with Disruptor bombs. I haven't really used them before (or used them well).

Really excited to jump back in and try. That's why I really like this game. I always love jumping back in and re-adjusting my weapons/style of playing. This game is so much fun, even when I'm trying to figure stuff out. :D

Yeah me too. I'm hoping they let us skip it and add more stuff to it like top inklings.

They need to make that skippable and also add the ability to quit out of lobbies. Hopefully in a later patch.

I always find it weird when I don't agree with things like this. The news reports are cute and nowhere near overly intrusive.

I've told you before, it only helps you 2HKO people who *do* use Defense Up! You will always 2HKO people without Defense Up.
This is not accurate. There is a very small but real range at which the .52 Gal will 3 shot basic foes but convert to 2 shot with Damage Up buffs. You can test in the training room.

If you're backed up against the wall it can be hard to escape a kraken since you have to turn the camera around to swim up your ink trail which could be all the time the kraken needs to get you

I don't mind them too much, just kinda a hassle to skip through when you can just see the stages on the MP screen.

Really, I wish moreso that they wouldn't boot you out of lobbies when the stages switch, but that might be necessary for their servers or something.

That's true, sometimes you can't do jack. But I would say for the most part, if you are really aggressive with your swimming, you can escape Kraken. When I first started playing, I was really frustrated and found myself dying all the time with Kraken. But once I got better with swimming and using that defensively, I honestly can say I escape Kraken 9 out of 10 times.

Now the Bubble special, that kills me more then anything. Because I'll be in close combat and I'll have my reticle on them and will start firing, and then they pop their bubble ability. And with close combat, it only takes a second to die. So you can get a jump on them, and should kill them. That bubble then flips it around and you are dead as they are already firing bullets at you at the same time (and they would normally lose since you were hitting them first). In some cases I've been able to go into the ink and escape. But it's pretty damn hard in a lot of situations.

I guess this is an example of why, you should at all times possible, try to hit people from behind or the side.

Wow.

I was backed to a cliff once in Saltspray Rig at the top area facing against Walkman04 playing a roller. He turned into a Kraken and I immediately just submerged myself in ink in place figuring that I'm pretty much a goner anyway. He jumped around trying to hit me but I guess he just missed the corner. Another of his teammate super jumped to him and he ran out of Kraken after several attempts at trying to locate me.

All the time I never moved an inch, then I popped up and splatted the guy who just landed and then him.

It was good times.

I had that happen to me, but I was on the losing side! It always fascinates me how close some final results can be. Also, my perception of the map coverage (who has the most ink spread), is sometimes way off from the final result.

Anyways, congrats on that win. Must have felt damn good.

I love Callie and Marie. But even I, find it kind of, sort of annoying how you can't skip them at certain times. Especially when you have to do it when you first boot up. I get that, it's apart of the world building. And I do like their announcements of map rotations etc. But for some reason I get irked sometimes when I have to watch them and can't skip. I guess the option to skip would just be nice, is all. But I do love them for the most part and wouldn't skip them 90% of the time.

just tap down and Y and youll flip the camera 180 degrees. much faster when needing to escape
