Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

they should've made 4v4 Online Metroid Blast instead of Blastball...

What did everyone think was going to happen this year jesus, they made it pretty clear that the Wii U has a year left.

Probably expecting a Metroid swan song for the Wii U.

Either that, or nothing and launch the next one with Metroid.

What nobody expected was this.

Wow that looks like shit.

What's the point? Just cancel it.

Why should they cancel what is very likely going to be a great game from NLG?

I get it. This shouldn't have been a Metroid game. I'm with you there. But it's going to be a fun game. Next Level makes great stuff with Nintendo. I have absolutely no doubt that this game will be worth playing.

Regarding Other M:I was hyped for it, bought it on release, and played it all the way through. To say that the game is anything but horribly flawed (though fun at times) is plain wrong. The story was amazingly bad, and I WELCOMED more story in Metroid. I'm the kind of guy who loves long cutscenes and plot, but Other M did pretty much nothing right. It comically (if not maliciously) misunderstood Samus as a character in both design and personality, and even reduced Adam from the cool character he was in Fusion to garbage.

Yes the combat was occasionally fun, but one of the game's biggest selling points was its story and it failed in that department hilariously. And the rest of the gameplay outside of combat was pretty bad with tons of invisible walls and pixel hunts. Not to mention the terrible control scheme that was forced by Sakamoto for no reason at all.

I wanted to like Other M.

Regarding Federation Force: If they'd taken the base idea (playing as Galactic Federation Troopers), and made it a Wii U competitive shooter, it could've really been cool. Especially with all the stage potential from Metroid world and zones. But as this 3DS game? It looks awful. I have faith that it will be fun, but it's still something absolutely no one wanted and is lame visually.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious Blast Ball was related to Metroid in some way. Anyone who refused to see that had a pretty serious case of denial.

This is a spin-off of the Prime-style games but it could be fun. I guess it could be like a Metroid-based Monster Hunter. I'm going to give it a chance and wait to hear more.

This is not the Metroid I wanted.

If anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, though, it's Next Level Games. Those guys have been great. I'm willing to give this a chance if it turns out to be good. I just hope this is a stop-gap until the next (preferably 2D) Metroid.

You know, I'd be totally into a new Hunters game if it added a little more "Metroid-ness" to the single player. The original game wasn't bad by any stretch, it just felt less and less like a Metroid game the further you got into it.

Ugh people's reaction to this is embarassing.

No it isn't a new mainline Metroid title. It isn't supposed to be.

It's being developed by a company with a very good track record in making great games with Nintendo properties. Yes, this time they're making a spinoff to Metroid, but it isn't exactly something people should be expecting to be of low quality or garbage.

I would've rather have had a new mainline Metroid too but come on. To outright say the game isn't worth anything just because it's a Metroid spinoff and shoveling all this hate on it for this very reason is asinine. I mean, do people really want Nintendo to develop another mainline Metroid after Other M? I'll take a chibi-fied, baby-fied spinoff where you play robot soccer over that shit.

Regarding Federation Force: If they'd taken the base idea (playing as Galactic Federation Troopers), and made it a Wii U competitive shooter, it could've really been cool.
There's actually a lot you can do with a Metroid FPS spin-off:

- Horde mode (with one of the scenarios being the Ing attack from MP2)
- Federation soldiers vs Space Pirates versus modes
- Asymmetric multiplayer (Samus/Dark Samus vs Space Pirates/Federation troopers)

Throw all that shit into one game, release it alongside a proper Metroid game. It probably wouldn't sell but it'd be pretty cool.

I was going to post this in the petition thread, but since that got closed...

People need to realize that this expands the potential Metroid fanbase. It's like being against Mario Tennis just because its not a mainline Mario game. I wonder what people would have said in 1993 when Mario Kart was about to come out. "Urrghh! Why are they wasting time with a stupid Kart Racer! Lets make a petition to get it cancelled!" Further, with respect to the Metroid franchise itself, I wonder what these people would have said if they heard that some 2nd party that wasn't Rare was making a first-person Metroid game. I suspect the reaction would have been just as stupid.

Calm down people. What if they game is actually good?

This has been fascinating to watch.

People are disappointed that this is the form that Metroid brand is taking. The game is however, literally the only FPS, co-op or otherwise on the 3DS; a system that nobody thought could support one. It's going to surprise people.

There is already a petition to try and cancel this: Link

EDIT: Aaaaand thread closed. It was a good run. :(
No it wasn't.

Anyone who supports this does not like video games. There are plenty of fucking games that I don't like, but to wish cancellation upon them is just absurd.

Everyone who signed should be ashamed of themselves. If you don't like the game, don't fucking buy it.

This isn't going to expand the Metroid fanbase. That would require it to sell.

It's not the only FPS on the 3DS. The reason there aren't many 3DS FPS games is that the system is terrible for playing FPS on.

literally false

Certainly, I've never been against this type of thing. Though it'd probably work best as a multiplayer mode to a mainline Metroid game, to try and make it more of a "full package".

I've always thought that a logical next step in the timeline (with Samus disobeying GF HQ at the end of Fusion), that a new game could have us playing as GF troopers hunting down Samus. It would give a cool new point of view and could provide some awesome boss fights with the bounty hunter herself

I have to admit, when I heard the Metroid-esque music kick in, I lost my shit....... and then halfway through the trailer I just.... felt nothing. Like there was nothing but emptiness left in my heart. Such disappointment. I can't remember the last time I felt THAT low.

The only good thing MP Hunters did was expand the universe with the hunter characters... only for all but one of them to be one-offs, and even the one that returned, it was only a cameo in MP3.

So it failed to even do that.

Metroid Prime Hunters at least was an ambitious game. It really tried to push the DS, and IMO is still one of the best 3D graphics on that system. Most of its problems are strongly linked to hardware limitations, such as the small scope of the game, linearity and repetition.

Also, it's probably important to keep in mind the game has about a year to go in dev time. The graphics might improve. The gameplay looks fun, but those graphics almost look like N64 levels of Vaseline smearing.

The difference is we get Mario games all the time.

Then you have a pretty good life...

I'd really like to know nintendo's thought process when green lighting something like this.

"oh people WOULD really love to play as a bunch of super deformed nameless federation soldier in a shitty 4 player coop arena based fps more than a real Metroid"

I mean seriously. And all that amiibo talk in the digital event, this company just doesn't cater to me anymore.

I actually like Prime Hunters than Corruption, in that the game design didn't feel forced and there was a lot of isolation.

The Metroid part is what's off putting, maybe if there's a campaign and if that's decent it can be saved for me. I'm looking forward to blast ball though.

Did anyone else notice that dash in the trailer? WTF

Again context. If the last Mario game we got was Sunshine I'm sure people would be mad at the newest game being Tennis.

I think we can all agree the petition is really stupid.

It's the designs too. Being early in development shouldn't give us weird cartoon character designs.

This game is just like the mario 3d world reveal. So much hate, but once nintendo shows it more before it's release. All of you will says this is awesome.
