Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

Has anyone taken the time to watch the Treehouse segment? Has it changed your opinion at all? I went from BLASPHEMY FUCK NINTENCUNT BASTARDS to a stage of acceptance and ultimately to the point of thinking it's got the potential to be quite fun.
.

This shows my issue with the game, primarily how the showcased it during the Digital Event. If they had shown the game as in-depth as they did for Yoshi I don't think it would have garnered as much hate as it has.

The Digital Even made it look borderline shovelware which probably added fuel to the fire. While I'm not claiming anyone who strictly wants an orthodox Metroid game will be pleased with this, it definitely looked much better on the Treehouse (as most games do.)

If it has Samus as the final boss to help bridge the gap between Metroid 4 and Metroid 5 then I'll have to pick it up. It would be great to see a whole squad desperately trying to take her out.

Hey maybe the final boss could be Sylux from Prime Hunters instead as a tie in to the ending of Prime 3!

The game doesn't look good to me at all, and I did see the treehouse. That said, the reason it has 50,000 dislikes isn't really because it's necessarily bad in its own right. The reason it has 50,000 dislikes is because people have been wanting a real Metroid for many years and this resembles in no way a real Metroid. It may be a good Blastball game, but it's not a good Metroid game or a Metroid game at all.

I'm curious. If you're Nintendo and the official trailer of your game has 50,000 dislikes and counting, is it worse PR to just leave it alone, or pull the video?

Totally worse to pull it. If Nintendo wants this to sell, they need confidence and need to convince people.

Someone mentioned about how Yoshi got forever minutes and a dev diary. They really need to put some shit together to convince people this game isn't garbage.

Again, I don't think the core problem is that it's necessarily garbage, the core problem is that people want a Metroid game and no PR spin will ever convince them that what they're seeing is the Metroid they've been wanting for years. Because it just factually isn't. MP, cartoony graphics, silly tone rather than isolated tone. It's not what they want.

Of course I'm looking forward to the next Super/Prime/Whatever Metroid game. I just don't think this is quite as horrific as the initial reaction we all had. Honestly, if it were out now I'd probably scoop it up from Best Buy after work. I came to a better understanding after watching the Treehouse segment.

Yeah Treehouse really sold me on this. I wasn't a rampaging man-child when they announced this like some people here, but it did look pretty lame. After watching Treehouse play it, I'm in day 1.

Nintendo isn't going to cancel this game.

Exactly. Next Level Games knows how to make shit work. They've added Multiplayer into both Punch Out and Luigi's Mansion, games that were previously solo only experiences, and now they're doing something new with a step into a Multiplayer focused game. I have full faith they're going to do something great, rather than bitch and moan because we didn't get Prime 4 by Retro
It's not happening and Metroid Dread isn't happening either let your pipe dream rumours die already damn it

I love how people are ignoring the explanation of my post. I realize they're a talented studio, but I just wish they were working on a more exciting franchise instead of a Hunters-like spinoff. There are rumblings of a Wii U/NX project so I hope we'll get to see that. Hopefully it'll be a main entry in some series.

And I'm not even a big Prime fan lol, it's just that this looks like a very generic co-op space shooter to me. Not really the stuff I look to Nintendo consoles for.

Im someone who does think it actually looks pretty good for what it is. I even suspect I know why they went with the art style they did (garbage 3ds ppi in na) and I am Ok with that decision on art style.

And Im still pissed for the exact reasons listed in this post.

I think I'll actually enjoy this game a lot. Just watched the treehouse footage, and it feels very metroid prime in the game play department. Like a boss rush of sorts.

Pretty much. Online co-op Metroid Prime boss fights. Which sounds pretty good to me.

My main interest at this point is in seeing the range of mission variety and also how progression works (if there is loot, etc). What we've seen of weapons/sub-weapons has me very curious.

I'm coming off of playing 300 hours of MH4U so far this year, so I am very curious about what this will end up being. They could have a very addictive product if they can execute the formula properly.

I don't really think it looks that great for what it is TBH, I mean if it was cheap eshop game I could do worse, but as a retail title, ehhh.

To be completely honest I can't wait for this game to completely bomb so Nintendo knows not to pull crap like this ever again.

That's about all I have to say about Metroid Prime Fedora Force.

You see, the problem is the presentation of the video - it looks like a playstation 1 or DS game. Now, to fix this:

1. Don't call it Metroid

Or they pull this video and upload it later when the graphics are vastly improved. I'm pretty damn sure the graphics can be improved on the New 3DS. If the characters in game and the graphics looked like the first Metroid Prime or a close representation of it, there'd be less kick back.

As of now it just looks like Mii's in Space fighting N64 Zelda bosses.

I don't want this game. But I'm worried that it will flop, and Nintendo in their infinite wisdom will think "Oh, people don't want Metroid then".

I'm surprised there is no Amiibo functionality. Like scanning in a character to have them either fight alongside you or one that you can play as instead of a trooper.

They have several comment sections across the net telling them exactly the reasons why people don't want to buy it, so if they somehow ignore all that and interpret a flop as "nobody likes Metroid, let's kill it!" then that's their own folly. I don't really take to the idea of buying a game you have no genuine interest in because something you actually want may or may not be held at ransom.

This announcement made me want to rebuy a copy of Metroid Hunters for the DS (owned it years ago). I think it's only like $10 used at most places.

If there's enough content for a single player I may actually buy this, but if its content relies on replaying the same missions in co-op, the multiplayer sport mode, or if playing single player sucks, then I'll just pass and wait for the next Metroid thing to be announced.

Who is "Federation Force's" intended audience?

I just don't understand why Nintendo refuses to make a 2D/2.5D Metroid–it wouldn't cost much and it would at least cater to an established fan base. Nintendo still makes Kirby games (which are great) on a regular basis, but those games aren't best sellers.

Exactly.

Also, I think all of The Treehouse members are huge dicks to each other, and I find this hilarious. I want let's plays from them kinda.

I think the backlash has made it pretty clear they are mad because it's not a PROPER metroid game or even a metroid game at all really.

Nintendo would be losing a lot of fans if they really were to think that way about this situation.

Tanabe is talking about the game in the tree house right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXFeuxiL1F0

Watching this now, the game looks pretty good, basically like Metroid Prime but with cartoonier art and 4-player co-op. The character and mech designs definitely could use some work, and hopefully they improve, but otherwise this game looks quite good. The environments look great, very Metroid Prime-styled. The music sounds like MP stuff as well, and the interface and controls also, which is awesome because Metroid Prime is one of the best games ever. So yeah, they have some things to work on, but the game definitely looks quite promising.

I don't know what everyone is smoking. The game looks like a lot of fun to me.

Is it confirmed that you can use the touch screen to look around instead of the nub?

Good point, I hope it has touchscreen aiming. That's far better than an analog nub.

Sounds like Tanabe is doing a little damage control. "You don't see the main game here."

They really really need to go in-depth as to what makes this Metroidy. If the main game progression is good, I can see this being a lot of fun.

There were parts when they were walking through the ice corridors, it definitely had a Metroid Prime vibe to it. No, the graphics aren't as snazzy.

EDIT: And the sound sounds pretty good, actually. Good music and the sound effects have punch.

I'm loving this gas world level with the Space Pirates. How far away is this? I think it's the only 3DS game I'm excited about at this point.

Game looks good, people as always hating without knowing.

Just needs a good single player and lots of lore to open up the universe.
Is there supposed to be a single player separate from the multiplayer co-op missions? I assume that single player will simply consist of AI taking control of the three other characters in the same missions.

It would be awesome if the single player focuses on a Federation Trooper visiting the same locations Samus visited in Prime 1-3 but possibly after she was there. Or before. Somehow interweaving another story into the Prime games where we get to revisit those locations but explore them in different ways.

I think someone heard Tanabe saying he's had this idea for this side-story in the Metroid Prime universe for many years now. So it just sounds like he's finally got to do it.

And as I said in the other thread. It was probably much easier to get Nintendo to greenlight this small-budget 3DS production than it was to get a full-blown HD AAA Prime type game on the Wii U.

That's right. Tanabe said that he's had this idea for about 10 years, and he's happy to be finally showing it to us.
