Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

it isn't? that would make up for it looking like garbage

Here's some off screen footage filmed with a 60 fps camera. Looks to me like the game is 30 fps. (It might have a variable framerate that occasionally jumps up to 60 very briefly, but that might be me being fooled by the actual real life camera bobbing and moving at 60 fps.)

Guys it obvious how this game is going to end.

I must've missed the outrage that the f-zero courses in Mario kart caused. Nintendo shouldn't reference or release any games unless us gamers decide it is allowed. Here, sign my petition to cancel this children's game for daring to take place in the Metroid universe. The gall of next level, they should be shut down imo

I declare this to be an illegal game. the team that made it should be fired and tried before a randomly selected panel of gaf nerds from this thread, then publicly executed on for grievous, irreversible harm done to the metroid brand.

This game is meant for little kids and that's fine but if kids start here won't they just end up liking their troopers more than Samus?

That explains why the game looks so bad: Nintendo doesn't want kids to like the GF troopers more than Samus.

Obviously it's according to the keikaku when the next main installment has Samus destroying the evil federation, making the children question their lives.

What will happen is that they'll get completely lost when they play a mainline Metroid, because their first Metroid game was structured in missions they played with friends, not a lonely, seamless world that requires exploration and backtracking. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Federation Force ain't running at 60 fps either, son.
Do you have any evidence? Blast Ball definitely appeared 60, and the twitch footage of FF did appear 60

EDIT: You posted some evidence. One sec, need to switch to my PC as mobile YT doesn't list framerate

If that one guy could get over Metroid not crawling...

I feel sad inside. :(

Here's some footage
That's 60 frames or my name is sir bullshit

Prime 3 wasn't THAT bad

Monster Hunter environments shit all over Federation Force's, especially MH4's.

Also Tekken is 60fps in 3D but the backgrounds are indeed static.

Oh, that was tekken? I mistook it for SFIV as I actually forgot there was a tekken. My bad.

It's only ~30 fps (actually very slightly more). I downloaded the 60 fps version of this video and played it back in extreme slow-mo. The frame time is almost always 33ms but every 10 frames or so it will draw a new frame in 16ms. The result is that it averages about 33 frames per second. (At least in the places in the video I checked.)

Hm. I'll take your word for it for now. Not being locked to 30 could imply that they're still doing a lot of ironing out, otherwise why allow fluctuations if it's such a small bit above.

Yeah, compared to MH4U this of course looks pretty terrible. The monsters in MH4U have so many polygons (same goes for some armors and weapons), self-shadowing, incredible animations. There also are some huge areas with some actual love for detail and platforming. No idea what went wrong with Federation Force. By far the worst thing is the trooper/exoskeleton design, so, so terrible.

What does their member status have to do with anything?

I say this as a Nintendo fan, that there are some very delusional Nintendo fans that forgives everything Nintendo does. You all know this is not freaking Metroid! So don't defend this game like it is. Nintendo did not listen to your please for Samus returns but instead gave you this crap. It's like ppl bend over to Nintendo for everything. I myself never though I would be in this state as a Nintendo fan but enough is enough. They need to change

Nintendo does not owe you or anyone anything. They could stop making video games tomorrow.
This game looks good even if it isn't exactly what you dreamed up in your head, which you really need to pull out of delusion land. Super Metroid is in my top five games of all time and I think this looks great because I don't think all video games have to fit into my exact expectations. They're trying something new with the Metroid franchise, and exploring some of the world that we haven't seen. Something that's long overdue in my opinion.

Unless this post is satire and I can't even fucking tell anymore.

And then they would stop making money and go out of business.

Isn't capitalism great?
Assuming they didn't have any secondary businesses like making toys mobile applications yeah.
My point is still valid. They are allowed to make whatever games they want. Yes the market will likely speak with this one and it won't do great, but I'm excited as hell to finally see what the Metroid universe is like When it isn't from samus' point of view.

I call Nintendo on their shit if I feel if they are fucking up, last week was a great example. Federation Force isn't the Metroid game or the Galactic Federation spinoff I had in mind but it looks like a solid game by its own merits. It's not meant to be a traditional Metroid game, it's a spinoff in the same vein how Hyrule Warriors meant to replace the mainline Zelda games. Next Level Games has a great track record working with Nintendo and this will be no different.

I think the graphics dicussion is pointless since by now all of us should know what the 3DS is capable of (with or without big budget). And (IMO) graphics are not the problem since we already know NLG can produce great things in this aspect as proven by Punch Out and Luigis Mansion, also the enviroment of the city level looks good.
I think what is really throwing people off is art style, and while cancelling the game is a huge stretch, given the backlash Nintendo should consider changing the style even if it is just a little.

I already talked in my previous post how (IMO) the game is missing some identity established in the prime series. And even if going for simple low poly characters and aiming to a broader demographic is a request from Nintendo, I think something like the art style used for dinsey infinity or the star wars animated series would be better and mitigate the complains from long time fans, going to the opposite side of the spectrum of art style while working on a beloved franchise like Metroid is a bad idea

I created a little image to illustrate my point about going for something in the middle. It is a rushed work so "please understand"

You crybabies are insane. Kensuke Tanabe long expressed that wanted to delve deeper into the lore of the hunters that appeared in Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Prime Hunters. This game is probably all about the hunters (prime 3 / hunters) and the federation police (metroid prime 3).

But whatever, let's all sign the cancellation of the game and play Mario Soccer and Kirby Yarn Paper. Because that is all you are going to get!

Well said. Most people here are indeed a bunch of crybabies.

I'm probably going to preorder this game when given the chance in spite of the manchildren. The game looks fun, NLG has a great track record, I enjoyed the online mode in Hunters (before the hackers took over), and I have no doubt that a "real" Metroid game will emerge in the future. I don't feel threatened by this game's existence in any shape or form.

I just would like to point out again that I like the game, I plan to buy it at launch and respect the vision of Next Level Games for it. However I don't think is perfect and also would have prefered a diferent style, and seeing the backlash reaction from fans after the announcement I know I am not the only one.

This might be a Wind Waker situation and maybe when we all play the game everything is going to make sense and a lot of us will love it "as is".But I think there is nothing wrong about discussing the game and voice our opinions, I even think it would be only fair for Nintendo and NLG take a step back and reconsider, if their reasons are still solid go on, but maybe they will find some new ideas that would make the game better and that is good for all of us.

Perhaps, but the criticism of this game seems to have you feeling threatened.

WW comparison is sorta decent, but Wind Waker's style wasn't unprecedented for the series - it was just never done in 3D yet.

Personally I think people need to get a grip. My wife and I are super excited about this game, probably a lot more than a mainline Metroid game.

Dude, that looks MUCH, MUCH better. You oughtta head over to NLG and show 'em how it's done. :P

Okay? That's irrelevant in regards to my question.

I don't consider the collective bawing of overgrown children to be particularly lethal (or anything remotely resembling criticism) but I do dislike when good developers get trashed for shitty reasons.

You don't seem to be a good judge of what is criticism and what is simply hate. A lot of people have given very clear, very in depth reasoning behind why they dislike the game from users here, and I don't think you have the ability to parse the haters from the critics.

I never specified any person or their complaints so this is a strange reply. Preordering the game is in direct defiance of the people signing to have it cancelled. I ended up getting the 360 version of DMC4 after manchildren petitioned to have that version cancelled too because it was a direct affront to Glorious Sony and all they did for a wretch like Capcom.

I don't like the way this game looks/plays, I don't think this should be a real Metroid - those are valid complaints. "Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel this game or you can kiss your business goodbye," are the empty threats of a maladjusted individual and should not be entertained (beyond a good mocking).

I think a lot of metroid fans wouldnt mind that.

Just.... Not when theyve been frothing at the mouth for a new exploration adventure metroid, literally begging for it every time Nintendo opens their mouth.... going apeshit with excitement when reggie shows up with an 8 bit samus pin, making thread upon thread across the internet after fucking donkey kong tm was out of the way, how it was inevitably, sooner or later next time, it was finally going to be their time, going into orgasms of ecstasy when retro made a four word tweet before e3....

And then.... The metroid prime name appears.... And..... Its shooting a fucking ball into a goal.

They slapped the name on, well, on what was supposed to be another kind of splatoon, in a very obvious attempt at brand appeal leverage.

Thats pretty fitting actually, Nintendo was going to force splatoon to use mario characters if they couldnt come up with a good original cast/ip.... That may have been what happened here.

Agree 100%. The reveal, the title, the timing, everything about this announcement was a trainwreck.

And 2D or 3D what I wouldn't give for a brand new Metroid game from a competent team.

I just hope Next Level can pull this out of the fire, but I also feel like they haven't been given much time. I could be wrong but it feels like a panic mode multiplayer game thrown together to fill a hole in a release schedule.

Which is not at all the way I would have liked to experience the Federation and the explore mythos of the Metroid universe. Metroid is one of Nintendo's only series that has any kind of coherent plot or timeline, and it's the only one where I'm interested in seeing more of that world and story.

I was as disappointed as the next guy when this game was announced (hell, when it was teased at the NWC). Currently, I'm not interested in the least. I want a new Prime or a new not-OtherM-take on Metroid, not this.

But I don't begrudge this poor game's right to live. Come now, folks. Surely, it's not unreasonable to take a wait and see approach. Imagine the crow that would be served if this game somehow scored 9s and above given the shit spewed in this thread!

PS - Blunoise, get a grip, man. First you disparage juniors for no logical reason, then you rant about fanatical Nintendo fans in a way that makes you seem like a fanatical Nintendo fan...

I know some people hate TheBitBlock (Josh Thomas) on the internet, but this video is quite informative from people who probably played more of the game than anyone else since they played for 2 HOURS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPN0IqdvhF4

Even a big Metroid Fan says that while he wants a Metroid game he is okay with this so people should give it a chance.
