Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Looks like a good reason to jump back in.

Especially since I haven't tried the other two expansions yet.

Wish I could just buy TTK and the expansions as one package that doesn't require me to buy the original game all over again though. =(
Look at the ad posted for game stop trade in

So with the new level system... should someone be able to easily solo Vault of Glass or Crota's End once they reach lvl 40?

no, because once you go a few level higher than enemies it doesn't make a different in the damage you take and receive.

Got the Suros shader/emblem upon logging in this morning

Had a notification from the warlock trainer, apparently they'd changed up the Invective quest, so my half-completed exotic bounty turned into a brand-new Invective.

A++ would patch again

As one of those who considers Destiny the biggest disappointment of last year for being bland, content-hollow, buggy, laggy and poor with story, is 2.0/TTK worth taking a gamble on?

I'm considering giving it one more chance since the changes sound significant and I need a shooter to hold me over until Halo 5/Battlefront's Beta.

I haven't played Destiny in over a year after I switched my PSN account (thanks for not allowing me to switch regions when moving countries, Sony!) so this is just the perfect opportunity to create a new character and start from scratch. Excited, can't wait to get home and play!

So far yes. All my class quests had to be turned in directly. One quest even forced me to leave the tower just to come right back to the tower to turn it in. How does something that stupid make it past testers?
Lol baby steps. It'll be fixed by 3.0 lol

All exotic bounties were autocompleted regardless of your progress

I'm gonna recommend "no" simply because I have a feeling there will be enough "Destiny 2.0 still sucks" posts to fill a new thread and I can already see where this is going.

If you haven't played since the early days its without a doubt worth another look, as long as you liked the core gunplay and mechanics. Those remain as good as ever but the entire game around them have been retooled.

Basically if you haven't played since the early Destiny days you are in for an entirely different (and much better) experience.

Interesting that you haven't played in over a year when today's the one year anniversary. :)

Well, I'm sold.

Sooo, after ranking up to 29 i bailed out when the first DLC hit and rendered the game unplayable to me, i then gave it to my daughter who lives with her mum. Seeing this thread i'm thinking about doing something i never thought i would do, get back into it.

I have downloaded the demo but unfortunately can't level up etc as i'm already level 29. My question is if i pre-order off the psn store will i get full access to the base game (which is effectively already downloaded (Demo)) and previous dlc immediatly then have to wait for the taken king or will i have to wait for the release to get it all? any idea?

Yes, if you pre-order the Legendary edition, you can play everything that is out now, and the TTK when it releases.

Was it the "get to level 30" quest? I'm willing to give them a pass on that one, since the game assumes you weren't level 30 yet when it gave you the quest.

Make a new psn to use the demo. I did the same to see whether I'd enjoy the game again after selling it earlier in the year.

Hey Destiny experts, quick question. I was trying to download the update last night and it kept telling me I needed to clear storage space. But I have 30ish GB free currently.

Were the servers getting hammered or is something else wrong? I thought the update was like 18gb.

Thanks!

As a tester, I would say that probably didn't "make it past" them... they were likely very aware of it but chose not to fix it for a number of reasons:

- it would only happen once at most (per character)
- it is not game breaking
- to fix it would likely require a massive overall change to how progress is tracked for quests in general

Some "issues" just don't need to be fixed.

I was on the literal first step of the Bad Juju exotic line on my Titan, logged in to get a free Juju.

Much love Bungie.

Question: is there a new map somewhere of the Tower? The robots are gone. Sorry if this was answered elsewhere.

Good to see Sony is still throttling. The 17gb update started at a blistering pace, supposed to be finished within the hour. But now its down to 40 hours, unless I babysit it. I'll keep saying it; Unacceptable.

Wait, so we can start leveling up already? I went in last night and saw some of the changes and played around a bit, but I didn't see any experience being added to my character. Nor did I see the gunsmiths test weapons go up.

I think we need to wait until TTK releases next week since having the expansion is what allows us to reach level 40

Hehe, yep.

QA-tester: "Hey guys, did you look at bug-entry #6429? The one were you have to leave and visit the tower again to finish up certain questlines?"
Dev: "Yes"
QA: "cool. are you going to fix it?"
Dev: "Does it crash the game?"
QA: "no, but.."
Dev: "Does it introduce other bugs or issues?"
QA: "no, but.. "
Dev: "So its just an inconvenience to the player?"
QA: "I guess, but.."
Dev: "We're focusing on bug #4218, which actually crashes the game and corrupts data. Do you want us to stop focusing on that?"
QA: ".. no :( "
Dev: "Ok. Whats next on the list?"

I only have the two quests that I had when I booted the game up after the update, haven't got anymore. Where do you get them?

Check the kiosks added to the Vanguard area of the tower (downstairs, center).

Also, talk to the Gunsmith. He's got field test bounties on TTK weapons right now.

Here are a few things I've noticed.

Bounties are hilariously easy to complete.

XP gains are so huge it's not an issue at all.

There is NO point in having two of the same character (unless you want to make it easy to level up different factions in the same week).

Path for Bladedancer/Gunslinger quests are super easy with a fireteam, at least, and can be done in less than an hour (for both).

Rift is fun but HCs performing meh-like, Ill Will is still the same but far too many Pulse Rifles (cough Red Death) that you can't precision kill as easily.

Ice Breaker has been BUFFED to max since you retain ammo, they might change that for sure.

Black Hammer is useless.

Apart from Path quests (and maybe Gunsmith when they get it working), there is no point in playing now until TTK comes out.

--

Hard Light is meh.

Auto Rifles are so MEH in comparison to Pulse Rifles.

No Land Beyond scope was changed (?) and thus I hate my favourite weapon now.

Necrochasm is still shit, may be useful for Arc Burn but that's it...

Couple questions... So I bought the legendary edition when the game first came out. And enjoyed it didn't get to play any of the expansion content because I traded the game in while it was still worth $45 because other games and yadda yadda yadda. But I do not have the base game anymore.

If I read the OT correctly if I preorder the $60 taken king digital version I can play vanilla destiny and the expansion content now prior to the release next week correct?

My other question is how new player friendly with this be? I have a guardian light level 27 or 28 and was playing as the tankier guardian but was thinking I would start a new character class. Will I be way behind by the time I get to relevant content or what?

Thanks ahead of time for replies.

I'm really enjoying the new crucible maps so far. Crossroads is crazy...

It looks like I'm going to switch my primary to a scout rifle. I was struggling with my AR against anyone with a pulse rifle.

Yes, if you pre-order the legendary digital edition, you can start playing now.

The game is much more friendly to newer players now that before. More ways to level up, easier bounties, and the prior two DLC's are integrated into the campaign pretty early. You'll go from 1-34 just going through the missions, strikes, etc.

If you want skip stuff, then the TTK comes with an item to level one character straight to level 25, which is where you need to be to start TTK story missions directly.

There'll be a one time use consumable that will bring any character you choose to level 25 immediately if you wish. So you can start playing TTK content with a brand new character, well nearly, I think you have to do the first story mission but that's it. This starts sep. 15th though.

Taken King is:

  • One large new destination (patrols, public events, etc.), the Dreadnaught
  • Eight story missions
  • Dozens of quests
  • 4 strikes (3 on Xbox) with alternate / branching paths, and several new modifiers; updates to Weekly Heroic and Nightfall strikes
  • 8 Crucible maps
  • 3 game types
  • 1 raid
  • updated patrols on all planets
  • Court of Oryx public event / arena challenge in the Dreadnaught
  • More new gear than Destiny originally shipped with
  • Three new subclasses
  • New enemy faction, the Taken
  • The 2.0 update (see link in the OP)
  • New ghost voice actor, lots of cinematics, etc.
Among other things. It is a very large expansion.

I agree it looks like a large expansion. I just put down the game after leveling (2) 30 characters when the VoG was released. I don't enjoy the PvP in Destiny and was super bummed by the lack of places to explore and fixed enemy positions around the worlds. Yes, i was another of those Bungie fans expecting something much more than was delivered and i'm just as much to blame for having overly high expectations.

That said i've been waiting for this DLC to see what Bungie had up it's sleeve. It looks like multiplayer fans will be stoked... and fans of the Hive encounters. The "taken" are just a Hive subset, correct? The Dreadnaught looks like more Hive Moon action to me personally. I'd love... we'll, something different and more expansive. Hell, i'd love if they did PvE and PvP content as standalone DLCs.

What do you mean by it?

You say new planets to explore, but the Dreadnaught (as a Destination) acts as a new "planet" to explore. It just isn't a planet.

True... but in my opinion, it's just more Moon-Hive action from what i've seen. Not a true "new enemy" with a completely "new" environment. Id love to have seen something new with TTK. How about some of that frozen/ice concept art we saw. Give us a new "frozen world" with a unique new enemy... maybe some insectoid race etc. That would be much more appealing than more "moon zombies".

I believe Luke Smith has said that the Dreadnaught is equivalent in size to the Earths playable areas. So it's essentially a new planet only not a planet.

Again, that's nice they did that... but more of the same in my opinion. From the little i've seen (and correct me if i'm wrong here) the Dreadnaught looks like more fighting of the Hive on the Moon or in caverns. There is the one new Knight character with the big black blade... but i feel like the ball was dropped once again. Could have done something more special.

I really have a feeling that this whole DLC run up until now was originally planned as day one Destiny release content (yeah i know that old story). Heres hoping that Destiny 2 opens up the universe some more and introduces us to some more exploration, locals and foes.

Awesome thank you for responses. Getting right to level 25 would help me be able to do the expansion content rather quickly before TKK comes out too.

Do you get the consumable prior to TKK release as well? Or is it when TKK comes out on Tuesday?

Looks like I'll be buying some PSN cards on my way home.

Probably a pointless confirmation, but for those who don't have year one and want a taste of all the new tweaks, the free trial on PS4( should work on the One) will let you download the whopper of an update, new title screen, kiosks and questlines. I was a level two Warlock but my light level reads as seven.

I made the switch from One to PS4, but I didn't get the full version yet so all I have is the free version. I'll check more out after I get off of work.

100 hours.. psh!

No one really knows since TTK isnt actually out yet. If you do decide to reenter however, your best bet is to buy the TTK Legendary edition which comes with all released Destiny content for $60 (well except for the Red Bull mission i suppose)

The main reason I keep playing is because it seems to be one of the few games with lasting power amongst my friends. Also Bungie seems to be making steps in the right direction, or at least getting dragged there kicking and screaming.

It's less grinding and more doing quests till you hit 40, I can't speak for end game though

I might get back into it. I had a lot of fun with the community, but it really all depends if I have enough time to put back into this game.

Okay, started a new character, but where can I find the ghost shell I got from the digital deluxe edition I bought way back? I can find the shaders and emblems at the north tower, but is there something like that for ghost shells/ships?

It should be at the special orders kiosk

Are the guns currently being sold by the crucible peddlers new? I rarely play PvP but checked out their gun stores last night after the download.

So how does one get Etheric Light in a Destiny 2.0 world? Came back post-patch this morning to three purples and a completed Thorn just waiting for me in the mail, not to mention all my purple armor pieces say that they can be upgraded as well.
