Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

I noticed this too, specifically Illusion of Light.

The promotional page in the emblem collection jumps from "II" to "V" so it might just be a bug.

Pretty sure Exotic armors are also bugged, at least the names.

There are two sections labelled "Exotic class Items". Pretty sure one of them is supposed to be Exotic Boots.

As somebody who has stopped playing Destiny for the past 6 months- I must say this update 2.0 has some positive changes but I don't think I have it in me to re-learn the ins and outs of this game. I own the Taken King but I don't foresee these changes being enough to pull me back in. I like how you can level up with experience but such a huge change to the game this late feels like backpedaling. Next up- they re-write the story.
How does it feel like backpedaling? Most online games do this every couple years.

There's nothing wrong with changing the game for the better.

I have a bunch of packages in the postmaster: Vanguard, Cryptarch, Faction, etc.
should I wait until next week to open them, or do it now? If I open them today, do I get the new weapons/armor?

I'm 34 right now. Is there any point in doing quests yet or will I need to wait till the 15th so that I'll get exp? Did a few things last night and I never saw my level increase.

What Bungie has done to Destiny is the literal definition of backpedaling. Look up backpedaling in the dictionary and you see a picture of Dinklebot.

I levelled from 26 to 30 last night in little over an hour, playing one mission and then Crucible matches. The XP changes are great! Feel sorry for those who grinded prior.

More like busy schedule, but sure...

I think you're talking about House of Wolves which was a part of the season pass and was released months ago, TTK isn't included with the season pass.

You know what though, i dont see that as a problem. I rather see a dev eventually fix the game for everyone rather than force people to wait for a complete sequel to get the fixes while the older game still sucks and is broken. Id honestly like to see more of this type of behavior.

Holy shit ARs are fucking cool for Crucible again! Just had time to play one match on Memento, cool map, and was surprised to see players dropping from ARs like flies.

I like how between matchmaking you now get a message saying how matchmaking is "breaking up the teams" so you have some idea of whats going on.

Something I wish they had done from day one was let you replay missions but choose the modifiers you want which then give different levels of experience, or engrams or motes or shards or whatever.

Basically a create your own daily mission.

Ok? So fixing the game is backpedaling, would you have rather them not done anything to the game and left it for a year?

The problem for me is that I decided to check out Destiny 2.0 before Taken King. I'll pick it up again on the 15th and see how I feel.

Right now Destiny is in a weird transition and I should just wait.

I've heard and read through the patch notes that more context will be given for story quests. Is this applied to the base story that was originally in the base game? My wife and I will be creating new characters as she has never played through the story. It would be cool if they fleshed out the story a bit more so I'm not playing through the exact same content this time around.

No need to feel sorry for me, I had quite a bit of fun leveling up to 30, 32, and 34.

Destiny an RPG, leveling up supposed to be enjoyable. The alternative would just be to start at 34, I guess.

I'm extremely pumped for The Taken King. It's definitely the Destiny I wanted last year when it launched.

Really, the only thing I'm worried about, content wise, is that there will only be two new zones? The only one of which I know is the Dreadnaught. Has Bungie already talked about how long TKK is going to be? Granted, it's not a full release, but rather a big expansion, I'm just worried that content-wise, I'm going to be disappointed that I paid $40 for it. Unless they're also adding in new areas to existing planets?

Yeah I tried some of the abandoned quests that relate to this. For example, Ikora has 2 new quests for me now that relate to my Warlocks 2 subclasses. She has different steps for each one with the idea that if you had a new character it would let you play around with the subclasses and learn them that at the end reap a reward from Ikora which right now look to be specific subclass emblems that look sweet.

Also had to talk to the Titan Vanguard as a Warlock that was for a old story mission where he sent me back to the Cosmodrome to get the Warp Drive core for my ship.

Also had a abandoned quest for the Reef hub that basically had me go to the Reef and talk to Variks and everyone who would give me a quick rundown of who they were and finally talking to Petra who then gave me a HoW mission.

But thats it, theyre fixing the experience based on the feedback and complaints theyve been getting for the past year and players dont even need to buy anything to get it. This to me, if anything, just makes me wanna support their game even more.

If this were EA, theyd wait for FIFA 17 to fix anything and charge you another 80$ for it.

7-8 hours of story missions, 1 raid, 4 new strikes, 3 revamped strikes, 8 new MP maps, 3 new MP modes, tons of new gear. Seems worth $40 to me.

Ugh, 17gb update, why oh why Sony do you delete updates when you delete the game app to free up space? Ludicrous.

Hopefully it'll be done by tonight I want to get stuck back in with DGAF.

XBox or PS4? I mean can you tear yourself away from MKX for a while or wot.....

Picked up Destiny digital copy over the weekend while the wife and kids were away, couldn't put the game down. Game is just what I was in the mood for right now. I haven't followed since launch but I know there was a lot of negative publicity about what was expected and the reality of launch. Feels like I'm jumping in at just the right time with all of the changes and a year for the game to grow.

As a new player what should I be focusing on before the Taken King launch next week? I've just been doing strikes and crucible quests the last couple days since I finished the main story line.

Now that TTK patch is live I started playing House of Wolves. Never played when it was released and glad I waited.
Anyway I seem to be stuck at lvl 34. If I buy TTK can I start level up to 40 now? Or is that when the actual expansion is released?

These changes do not fix the lack of content problem which is why I stopped playing.
Good on them for fixing issues, but without new content to enjoy the changes on- it's too little too late. Which is why I'll wait until Taken King before I attempt to sink my teeth back in.

Only once it's live.

That, i cant argue with. I agree, there was a serious lack of content. What the game is now content wise is what it should have been to begin with.

The new quest lines add that, and it helps quite a bit. I posted a few thoughts on it last night.

I'm 34 on my titan right now. If I do the abandoned quests before the 15th, will I see any exp gain or am I better off waiting till the 15th when I'll possibly get exp reward for completing them?

From the patch notes:

•Year 1 Activities have been converted into Quest system

◦Year One Questlines do not require ownership of The Taken King
◦You can replay the story for more experience and reputation by looking at the Quest Collections in the Tower
It looks like you can replay them for XP and rep, but since you are 34 and have no gear to level that will be relevant much past the 15th, only run it now if you are really interested or spinning up a new character. Otherwise it can be a source of XP for new gear / progress after the 15th.

Jumping back into Destiny after a hiatus, is creating a new character the best way to re-experience the story or using my current one be fine? I'm wondering if any key cutscenes or events might now show just by selecting missions in order.

Also any materials or items I need to trade in before they become obsolete?

Try VoG if you have the gear.

So, are the new areas in single player just new areas in existing planets or are we getting new planets? I couldn't find any clarification on that in the OP.

Thanks in advance.

One new patrol on Oryx's ship, the Dreadnaught. Smaller new areas like Phobos will be playable in story missions.

Also, after the patch update, I noticed I can only play level 20 strike playlists. I read the patch updates but still don't understand why i am locked out of the higher level playlists right now.

Thanks in advance.

TTK includes the following:
1 brand new full destination known as the Dreadnaught. It's the giant Hive Ship that sits on the rings of Saturn.

On top of that, We're getting small 1-off missions that take place in new locations. For instance the 1st mission takes place on the Mars' moon Phobos.

We aren't certain of other missions yet, as Bungie is keeping some stuff hidden.
