Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

I don't know if I like class armor now having stats and crucial to leveling up. Class armor, IMO, should be just unique trophy items like ships, emblems, and shaders. Now my Devil's Cloak cape for my hunter is weak compared to the new rare cloak that looks super generic.

Agreed. The class item, prior, was to help customize our guys / gals. Now that it's armor, I feel compelled to sacrifice looks for defense.

Played a bunch last night mostly doing House of the Wolves/ Dark Below quests so I can get my Char to 34 (only 30 atm and Assuming max until TTK comes out). Also where will I be able to get level 34 gear (assuming playlist strikes)?

Remembering why I enjoyed the game in the first place and changes seem to sort out the issues I mostly had (not enough bounty slots and crap quest system). So depending on how TTK Reviews (good feedback on the story) I'll probably end up picking it up...

Considering 2/3 months ago I had no interest in continuing to play Destiny Bungie have done a good job of turning things around.

Do I get taken king for £40 or pay £55 for the legendary edition so I can go disk-free...

Hmm....

I went digital legendary. Destiny disc isn't really worth anything anymore with all the extra patches you have to download anyways, so...

The Emotes aren't really as cool as I was thinking they were, EXCEPT the Hunter's. That one is boss.

The Sprinkler.

The class items are meh, they are only there for you to level up to 40 quickly and to level u p the new subclass ASAP, which is a commodity of course, but after that they don't seem to be worth anything.

Hmm....

Yea have the same Choice (disk free would be nice for Destiny though) and thinking if I trade in my Disk I can get a £15 voucher from game (due to having enough points) so not paying too much extra for digital only.

Yeah this is really strange and I don't like it. I have a few capes like I like but now I feel like I have to switch them out because of their armour values. Ghost shells are the same although I care about them less. A lot of this update feels like one step forward two steps back to me.

If your class item is Legendary, you can continually Infuse it with higher stat class items and Legendary marks. Max that sucker out if you like the way it looks.

Anyone else thinks leveling goes way to fast?

A buddy of mine played Destiny all evening and all his three characters were leveled in one evening from 30 to 34??

That's just way to fast, leveling doesn't feel like an accomplisment anymore. It would have been more fun if it took about one hour to gain a level not 10 to 15 minutes...

Destiny's XP system isn't terribly interesting anyway. I'm used to MMOs requiring complicated quests to increase your level. All Destiny requires to hit the soft cap is for you to put bullets into enemies. Making it take minutes or hours doesn't make much of a difference because you're ultimately grinding over and over.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and level up my level 4 titan this week. I'll see how far I can get him before the expac.

Hmm....

simplygames have the legendary disc version up for pre-order at £36.85, another option,

I may go this way and trade in my original game for some game credit, this way get teh TKK for about £28

As one or two folks mentioned, the new infusion system for all TTK gear means you can bring pretty much any legendary armor piece or weapon to the game's max stat value. This combined with the way the intelligence/str/disc values have step levels means there should be a ton more variety in what gear people use in the endgame; in other words you won't be persuaded to stick to one Hunter cape because it's the beefiest or because It has the best strength boost.

I started over my Titan yesterday; so far really liking the changes and I think brand new players will have a much better time of things early on with narrative. It's a brilliant triage maneuver Bungie has done here - like, almost nothing has changed as far as the actual missions, but the way you go to vendors and get quest flavor text helps give each mission more context. So instead of just blindly running through the earth missions, I talked to Zavala and he told me "hey, welcome to the tower, congrats on being alive. Those Fallen you ran into are still doing some business so can you go back and poke around a bit more to see what's up?" Really liking the change but if people were bummed about the actual mission design I don't think anything has functionally changed.

I'm a little confused on light levels now. What's the point of light levels now?

It's basically an indicator for how good your gear is. Like Item levels in WoW

Also, a certain light level is still needed for certain activities, impossible missions seem to have a requirement of 240 light levels

Honestly, it hasn't really changed in it's functions as far as I can tell. Light levels was really just a poorly conceived way of displaying how good your characters gear was really. mixing it with your level was confusing.

I did see the missions with 240 light levels. I'm at 150, so I've got a while.

In Raids, light level was important. Vault of Glass being a sub-level would actually give you a disadvantage by near 30% (if I remember right) if you weren't the minimum required level.

I'm fine with how these levels are then. I'd rather then just be a rating of gear. Thanks for the info.

Question about playing this week. Is there any purpose on playing this week or something I should make sure to do before the week is up. Like is this a special event I thought I remember Bungie doing special week event before the DLC drops to get cool shit like the queen stuff. And what are all these expired quests they are making me replay the worst missions. Are these what I'm supposed to do before the week ends?

Nothing really, they put Destiny in a weird limbo place for a week, probably to beta test the changes. The only thing really to do (apart from playing for fun) is to level a new character if you don't have 3 max level already.

After playing for a couple of hours last night I have a few beginner questions:

- I understand there is no matchmaking at all in the game? I now have my first strike mission to do on earth (I'm level 8 I think) and without friends I have no way of playing with people is that correct?

-My character screen has the other subclass for titan available at level 15, when I get that will I go all the way back to level 1 for this subclass?

-Is there any point in keeping lower level items or am I right in salvaging everything?

- There is matchmaking for standard strikes, weekly heroic strikes and strike playlists (as well as most PvP)

- You will stay at level 15, but you'll have to start from scratch with abilities.

- Salavage pretty much everything at this stage.

1) Try a strike and see. It should start looking for players automatically. it will create a random fireteam.

2) Yes.

3) You can salvage them for materials.

when you hit level 15 you can switch subclass, you will still be level 15 but you will then earn xp against your new subclass.

You can switch them out any time.

Some low level stuff you should keep for your other classes if you are going to create them, some really good weapons are white, just pop them in the vault for safe keeping.

Stuff you dont think you will keep just trash them.

And pick up bounties daily to boost your xp gained through out your leveling, you could go 1-20 in a day if you really wanted too, and that's with out going beyond the first mission on the moon.

Thank you for your replies, I didn't have enough time left last night to start the strike I just went into orbit and set it as destination. I was expecting to see a matchmaking option there instead of an automatic system, I will test tonight.

I picked up the bounties yesterday, completed 3 whilst doing story missions. I suppose there is no drawback in picking them every day at least until my log is full.

So the fact that I get a new ability every level will change when I get the new subclass.
Is the amount of xp per ability fixed? What I mean by that is if I get to level 15 and kill level 15 enemies with my new subclass it should level faster than my original one right?

I didn't think about rolling the other classes and safe keeping things for those, thanks!

I'm in the UK and I don't have a lot of playtime but if anyone wants to add me (PS4): Typhares

No one ever has enough time in Destiny.

Tons of UK players in the OT
Everyone is friendly and helpful, probably the nicest, group of people I ever played a game with.

from the bungie forums, there a few issues with the update, the big one for me is below.

We’re aware of an issue where Patrols and Faction-specific Quests are not granting the expected rewards upon completion. These rewards will be granted as expected for these activities starting on 9/15/2015. Patrols and Faction-specific Quests completed before this time will not retroactively grant rewards.

Maybe worth holding off doing any of the faction ones, patrols I not fussed about.

Yikes. I think I'm just going to hold off and play once TTK releases.

The 8th step in the Gunslinger's quest is hard. You have to kill three Majors and at least 15 kills with the Golden Gun Super in one Strike. Anybody got any tips on this?

I am NOT happy that Quests ended up being silly objectives like this too... wtf... they should be just "Do mission X" or "Hunt Enemy X in Mission Y"... not fucking "kill X enemies with ability Y in a single strike"

It's an arguement of do you want something handed to you, vs do you want to get creative and earn something.

Personally, I like the harder tasks.

Also, silly? The games wants me to be a badass striker, so I need to show it that I can be a badass striker.

Did this one "accidentally", didn´t even try. Moon Strike is perfect for this one.

The Omnigul strike presents a lot of very target rich areas with high ranking enemies to target. Especially if you have all the perks unlocked on the golden gun, you can over penetrate / explode packs of them.

I just got a similar step with my Warlock nova bomb - get three bombs to generate 7 orbs each in a strike. Not only does my super not charge fast enough to use three times in a strike, my nova bomb is woefully inadequate. The most I've done is five. :lol

Got a tip for you. Start the Omnigul Strike Weekly with a couple of friends (lowest level is fine), but have them go idle or just drop. Kill stuff until super is charged, but don't touch those fallen vandals on the platform to the right of the room, where the hive come out. You should have your super just about the time the hive show up. Use Bad Juju and Obsidian Mind if you have it. When hive show up, they'll engage the fallen on that platform. Go into the room, jump on the shelf and nova bomb the vandals and hive on the platform. There are so many, you should get 7 orbs easy. Die and repeat 3 times, then finish the strike.

Sometimes if your friends drop, the matchmaker will drop in two randoms, but it's usually after you've gotten your 7 orbs three times. Which is great because they help you finish the strike!

THanks for this. This is one thing that was hitting me and I thought I just had mis-remembered the game horribly.

So, question about buying this after not playing since before the expansions. I didn't play the two prior expansions and already own a digital copy of Destiny vanilla. My only option is to either A) buy the expansions individually and then buy Taken King separately for $40 or B) just buy the Legendary version (which essentially has me rebuying the game). Is this correct?

So I just am now getting back into Destiny, I have been level 25 since I last played in the spring, now that they changed the leveling I am starting again.

Is there an up to date guide to explain some of the details, I never really understood what the currencies do, if you need to buy weapons or if you can just rely on drops, how I should know if I should dismantle something, etc.

Gamestop has a Destiny trade in going from the 12th to 21st. Turn in the original game, and get $20 store credit toward the legendary edition, which has everything.

Otherwise the legendary edition is $60.

It's been hard to get used to all the new mechanics.

A year doing the same thing over and over and over and over again is something that goes very deeply in my gaming habits.

Can someone explain to me what are subclass quests for my titan? Now bungie is saying not to do them cause theres problems with it....

This is kind of a weird week for Destiny, post 1.xx and just starting 2.00. There's things in the game that aren't active yet (earning Legendary Marks, Patrols working as intended, etc).

This week I would focus on trying to get your character to lvl 34 Any engrams you get you are safe to decrypt, they won't turn into Taken King gear. Don't finish the class specific quests, they give an emblem as a reward that is bugged and you won't get.

That's really it, check out the new crucible modes, get used to the areas again, see if you can join some raids since you may not have done them yet, don't get too crazy, that's what next week will be for.

As for the currencies:
- Legendary Mark – used to buy weapons and armor
- Armor Materials take the place of Hadronic Essence, Sapphire Wire, and Plasteel Plating to use to upgrade Armor
- Weapon Parts - used to upgrade weapons
- Motes of Lite – will be used to help upgrade weapons and can be used to buy old Emblems from the Guardian Outfitter
- Strange Coins – But stuff from Xur, who shows up once a week for 2 days and sells exotic armor / weapons, exotic engrams, sparrow upgrades and heavy ammo synths
- Spirit Bloom / Relic Iron / Helium Filaments / Spirit Bloom – are used for upgrading both armor and weapons.

I hope that helps. Head over to the community thread if you have more specific questions, there's a lot of very helpful people over there.

Have people completely abandoned the Thorn?

I've actually been having fun playing PvP. I was using the Monte Carlo before the update and it feels even better now I'm not getting thorn'd across the map.
