FINAL FANTASY XV - Niflheim Base Battle Footage

There was space and aliens in FF8 for a bit. The Type series is a good place to go for a full sci-fi FF game. FINAL FANTASY TYPE-S

And final fantasy IV has an airship that goes to the goddamn moon!!!! We've been so close so many times D:

That's a good idea with TYPE-S. Between the Type series and Bravely series square could easily make a lot of games with ideas too offbeat for FF proper

What are the two bars above attack and defend ?

They haven't explained that, but the blue bar goes up when he attacks. Its the Armiger because I can see the command pop up a couple times under that bar. The segments might be for how many times you can use the warp strike flashy move. (L1+R1 to unleash the Armiger)

The orange bar segments are ally special attacks because you can see a segment drop when they use Tempest, Mark and Flash Bomb. (L1 to open the menu for ally specials) It doesnt drop for Gladio's move but im willing to call that a UI glitch for now.

I think the health bars flash red when X-Strike is available.

So MGS can be added to the list of comparisons over the years.

This looks like KH.
This looks like FF.
This looks like Uncharted.
This looks like God of War.
This looks like MGS.

Not a bad list to compare this game to.

Really, I think this is gonna be ambitious as fuck.

BELIEVE!

When that mech punched the ground with that AOE it reminded me of Laurence The First Vicar

this looks like Bloodborne :P

Everybody need to remember that this is an OLD build. This is from Sep-Oct last year. I'm sure the recent build 'll look even better. So UI, movement, effect etc. will all be improved. Take a second, stop worrying, and bask in the glory that is Final Fantasy XV!

No its not. The progress update had test footage from sep-oct last year, but this battle footage is more recent than that, The updated UI and better effects should make that distinction more obvious.

It's still not real time though.

No but at least it wont look too bad by comparison in real time.

Like where their going with combat seems better than the demo. Can't wait till it comes up and hope somehow it ends up this before E3 (though expecting a summer release or fall).

I dunno about that stealth....

I know that Nomura wanted some stealth sections originally, but I hoped that they were cut. This doesn't look much better.

Combat looks great tho.

I've seen complaints about the turret sequence, and I just don't understand it. We got shown something similar in the January 2011 trailer for Versus XIII, remember?

To be fair people didn't like it then.

Even though it's completely fucking optional.

If recent arguements about games has taught me anything "Less can be better"(something some people said in another thread). Not that I believe that horseshit, the more optional stuff the better.

How's the button configuration now? The one seen in the latest footage is based on Japanese version, so NA/EU might be a little different. I'm guessing:

X - Attack
Square - Guard
Triangle - Weapon ability (based on the currently selected weapon)
Circle - Jump

L1 - Warp
L2 - Toggle between weapon selection and party member commands
R1 - Magic (Like Kingdom Hearts, R1+face buttons as shortcuts, so 4 active magic)
R2 - Summon

L1+R1 - Armiger

Directional up, down, left, right to select between weapon selection or party member commands.

It's as follows:

X - Jump
Square - Guard
Triangle - Warp
Circle - Attack (X and Circle may switch for western release)

L1 + R1 = Armiger
Dpad = Weapon/Magic switch
(L1 or L2) + Dpad = Party commands

So, magic will be getting cast with just your normal attack button. The good thing about this is that there is potential to include L2 and R2 for lock on and target cycling. If they do this, targeting various points on enemies and attacking will become a lot more fluid. I really hope they do this.

Other than that, the fights are still being done via holding the attack button. May be this is one battle mode, and the other battle mode will be single strike per button press? Hopefully they include the two battle modes in the upcoming playable demo.

Haha. A turret section. The worst.

Not impressed at all. Looks kinda janky. If you showed me these screens with nothing attached to them and I didn't know about this game's troubled history I would never have guessed this is a Final Fantasy game. Will wait for the next mainline game that they go back to what made these games appealing to me.

Fuck. I'll admit, that looked really good. I just hope the battle system feels better than the demo. It still looks like it's floaty/wavy or whatever in movement

Also, Yoko, you bloody goddess!

In an action game like this, the more options there are the better.

Combat should be an outlet for creative expression.

Spontaneity and improvision is what makes action games so fun.

.

It's not a fucking turret section if you literally are not forced to use the turret.

Goddamn, has COD turned you all into divas?

I think turret sequences often get tons of hate because they're usually forced. Also it doesn't flow well with the rest of the combat. Having a party member man the turrets or even having them be AI turrets that you hack to your side bioshock 2 style would be better

My only ''worry'' right now in that footage is how the game is easy. Everything melts, they have 3.5k HP their opponents barely hit them for double digits.

Prety sure it's juste for the purpose of the video and the game won't be balanced that way. I find FF always way too easy, besides Lightning Return.

What is a Final Fantasy game?

The elements you want to see will be shown in March.

Looks great but not sure if I like some of the UI elements. It's mainly the weapons ont he D-Pad being in circles. I think a more angular look for the UI would be better. Like basic squares look better than basic circles.

I dunno, it's a very minor complaint but I just don't like the look of those circles. The blue colour might also be a part of it.

Agreed. Something more closer to what they had before would be better, imo. Thankfully, they're still changing it up so it might improve.

I can react however I want to a shitty gameplay mechanic optional or not thank you very much.

The music in this trailer is either a reworked or new version of Episode Duscae's night battle theme.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zyUwE00vbs

Might be a boss battle alternate to that, doubt they outright replaced a common battle theme for something so extraneous sounding....unless they want every little battle to sound epic af.

aww I actually like the circles.. too many angular elements for me. ultimately I just dont want it to take much space on screen or pop out too much.

Pretty much. It's weird, as if there's a vocal minority(?) who want this to be a straight forward turn based game, with next to no gameplay deviations to mix things up a bit. It's not 1996 anymore, and I see nothing wrong with Square Enix wanting to bring the franchise into the 21st century.

The combat looks great, we'll have a world with cities to explore, magic and the like. FF always reinvents itself, and I can bet FFXVI will be completely different to this.

Up until this one and LR they were turn based games for one. This looks nothing like the games I replay every year or so. Not looking like something I would even want to play the first time. It looks more like a MGS/Zoolander crossover than a Final Fantasy game.

And we can react to people here too. Its an neverending circle of Reactions (TM by the fine bros) .

Anywho, here's hoping they still keep one thing from duscae that made me like it alot more. The terrible couple from the chocobo ranch.

I'm thinking that's for our benefit, so they don't randomly die. Could be wrong, but that seems like a very demo thing to do.

Final Fantasy XII wasn't turn based.

Outside of the character designs, nothing about that looks anything like final fantasy

But that's fine, what's ff now anyway? Looks pretty fun and neat, I hope it turns out well.

Funny you say that, considering before this, all we had were grasslands and forests, giant crystal structures, chocobos and fantastical monsters(like Goblins, Garulas and Catoblepases) and Ramuh. For the while, people were getting sick of the "too fantasy" aspects of Episode Duscae and were begging more for the futuristic/modern sci-fi aspects of the game to return(which were shown heavily in trailers for Versus XIII). I said this elsewhere, don't matter which side they show, the other tends to whine that we aren't getting enough of the side that interests THEM.

And I really don't think this game is as different from the standard world formula as many FF games as much as others do. "Fantasy based on Reality" is just fancy words to say, "Some areas in this game might draw inspiration from locations on Earth", but it's also not like this has never happened before. FF has taken inspiration from real life/historical locations for a while, and even literal inspiration(especially in FFX and FFXII, where the teams traveled various locations for structural/architectural inspiration).

They've barely shown their "fantasy" stuff yet. Wait for Tenebrae reveal.

CU2u5VmUsAAfOWh.png

That, and they said the more you progress into the game, the more the "fantasy side" of FFXV's world will open up.

eh, mechs have been in the majority of final fantasy games since FF6. A nuclear equipped walking battle tank though would be a nice addition.

What I'd really like is for FF to go full sci-fi with interstellar travel and aliens. Sigh, maybe next decade.
Warmech and friendly robots .... FFI.

And while not full sci-fi, FFV technically had interplanetary travel(one way via a meteor-like craft, the other, via a warp portal).

I do agree, though. One of my idea, while not pure sci-fi, dealth with an alien coming to a planet to steal a crystal and the "hero of the planet" boards a space craft, travels to the alien's planet to recover it, escalating into a war between both worlds.

What makes it so shitty other than the fact that you have some inherent bias against it?

Are you the turret defense force president, client or both?. I just think they are fucking played out in games. Sorry if after my 1000000x using a turret in a game, my inherent bias is showing.
