you feel bad for him?

Dane Cook should have been Deadpool. Just look at his faaaaceeeeeeeeee.

All they need to do is say that he's from the future and is related to one of the X-Men giving some hints, no need to go further than that.

Cable isn't just "from the future" he's from like the year 4000.

We just DID ridiculous time travel nonsense with days of future past, and wiping out the events of X1-X3. Doing it again is needlessly complicated.

I'd rather they team him up with Maverick or something rather than introducing Cable.

And not to necessarily start looking to the horizon already on this momentous weekend, but I have to imagine this success bodes extremely well for the other outside-of-the-box superhero blockbuster this year.
No, Civil War and BvS are not outside-of-the-box :p

That's what I'm hoping for out of all of this. Using more superheroes that are a "little bit different," but would work in a mainstream format.

And more R-rated comic movies.

Eh, Deadpool's got a huuuuuge built-in fanbase that've been waiting for a movie like this for years. Suicide Squad is a little less well-known, so it's gonna have to rely more on a good marketing campaign.

Cable is a nightmare to do on screen because explaining who he is requires a PHD in marvel literature.

The only way to do it would be with a completely different character from scratch that is cable in name only...and really, who wants that

I think they could pull it off if they just dramatically simplify his backstory. Since Cyclops and Jean are both alive again in the film continuity, Cable could just be their son who grew up and is now in the past to prevent some future calamity. Easy peasy. No reason to get into Madeline Pryor, Mr. Sinister, etc.

Hell, they could even tie the techno-organic virus into it. Talk about how the Technarchy invaded the planet and infected everyone with it, blah blah blah, now Cable's got the look and the reasoning to go back in time to prepare them for the fight.

Wasn't he very excited about the role too?

Reynolds has been trying to get a Deadpool movie going for like 10 years. He considered it a dream role and has been heavily involved in every attempt at putting the character to film.

Excited is an understatement. :p Dude's awesome.

With the success of the film wonder if they'll be another game for Deadpool, doesn't Activision still have the licensed for it... Platinum could make a game.

Now whosoever owns the IP needs to stop fucking around and make an R-Rated Spawn movie, It can even follow the stoy line of the Spawn Animated HBO series.

If they don't tie in Cyclops and Jean in some way. I don't want it.

Wonder how Marvel will respond to this success. Which IP's they can use to make a R rated film? Daredevil and Punisher is stuck on Netflix. Maybe a Nextwave film?

They could bring Blade back. He seems like the easiest choice now they have the rights back. Or they could take the risk on a hard R Ghost Rider reboot. But Blade seems like an easier sell to an audience.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.

Ghost Rider deserves to be dead. Honestly so does Blade.

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
Deadpool is a risky superhero now?

As a non-comic fan I had never heard of Deadpool until Wolverine and forgot about him soon after, when you factor in it's R rating, then yes its a risk relative to other comic book movies.

"Of course it would bomb, he's only popular in the dying comicbook world no way he'll blow up in popularity mainstream wise!" Which is what they were saying. That crow eating.

Between Guardians of the Galaxy and now Deadpool - hopefully people will stop the arguments about a character or property being too niche to be successful.

Turns out if you make a good movie and then market it correctly, people will go and see it - regardless of how familiar they are with the source material.

Considering it took Fox ten years to make this out of fear that it would bomb and it was only after footage leaked that they green lit it, then yeah at the very least it was considered risky.

Not to mention having Ryan Reynolds as a star when he hasn't exactly had huge box office success before.

Well, that's understandable because outside of comics, he hasn't had much quality material which has actually done the character justice. But in terms of comics, he's up there with Spiderman.

I'd be in the dick
My theater was packed and the audience was really into it at 10:15 last night. Movie's going to do really well.

That's why he's perfect for Deadpool. Who better to explain Cable than someone who can break the 4th wall? Or better yet just blow it all off in a quick bard.

"That's Cable! He travels through time, like the Terminator! And he's a dick like his dad! "

And they said it would bomb.....

It's getting at least $25 from me. I haven't seen a movie twice at the theaters in one weekend since Kill Bill Volume 1.

Also, the marketing for this movie was amazing. Like, best I've ever seen for a superhero film.
