Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

Was there supposed to be co-op? It's not mentioned on the Kickstarter page at all.

edit: Oh wait, there it is. Local co-op for the challenge mode. No idea if it's in.

yeah it actually says Co Op Campaign, not just for challenge. If it's not in now, I hope they at least patch it in soon. It's one of the main reasons I backed the game :\

still excited regardless, but it's something they promised so hopefully there's news of it before long

Does this game run on a laptop, which is around 3 years old?
Portal 2 runs without problem's with 1366*768 and all effects.
I'm really tempted to not wait anymore, thanks to you guys ;-)

Specs are on the steam page. I will say, I was trying to get the game to run on a 4 year old macbook pro and there was a lot of slowdown. Switched over to my gaming rig instead.

I'll put this in spoiler tags, looks like some of you are past me so hopefully somebody can help, trying to get to the first boss that ppl have been mentioning, in the north zone.

I went to the northern area first. I appear to have unlocked 3/4 'keys' for the area, but the lowest one on the map (it seems like to get to it you need to go into this dark cave passageway) appears to be completely blocked. There are some cubes with arrows on them but I have no clue how to get past them).

I could go to a new area but I feel so close to finishing up the North area that I'd rather not. Does this make sense to anyone?

The first boss is kicking my ass right now.

Until now the game is quite good.
Between this and the RPS review, I get the impression that the first boss is kind of like that first boss you'd face in a Platinum game or Souls game, where its purpose is to make sure your skills are ready to face the rest of the game. A stopgap in a way, to make sure you're prepared for future challenges

It really depends on which boss was his first boss... I mean, it's kind of your choice. I went
east
and my first boss was the
giant frog
which, while difficult, was pretty reasonable.

If you're talking about the purple triangle pieces you have to collect, you only need three to face the first boss. Once you've got them, head to the top of the peak (where the pillars are stopping you getting up to the very top), head to the right and take the rightmost path back down the hill a bit. You should pass a door that needs four triangle pieces on your right, but if you keep going down you'll find a door that only needs three. That door led me to the first boss.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone that didn't back the Kickstarter see an option for unlocking an alternate costume in-game? It's in the options menu somewhere.

Played this for around an hour so far pretty good! Managed to beat the first boss on my first try. Did only have 2 hit points left though!

How far have people got in the chain dash challenge so far? I am wondering what number you have to get to open the other door in that room. My best so far in 147 but then I always run into a wall :(

The challenge I am talking about is in the store where you unlock the movement skills, it starts counting at the bottom of the screen.

I took the plunge myself and risked it.
I'm playing on my SP2 with XB1 controller, I just finished up the North area and have had zero complications so far.
Loving it, especially the art style. Right up my street.

Your not making my life easier ;-)
But thank you very much for sacrifice :-)

The sound design is giving me serious Fez vibes. So do graphics as well actually.

Daaaaamn as if I couldn't get any more hyped ! Stuck at work and I read this : FEZ is my absolute gem of the last 6 years, I love it so much it almost makes me all fuzzy inside to know I'll get to experience similar vibes in a few hours.

Beat my first boss (on the west zone), he was hard but I was smarter hehe

This game is great

360 controller ? Because mine was immediately recognized.

360 here, nothing i do makes a difference, it simply doesn't recognize any inputs

my controller works fine with every other game but this one apparently

Now that people are actually playing, I'll repeat my question: How does storytelling work in this game? Every trailer and picture makes the world seem so rich to explore and uncover secrets about it, but I've seen people mentioning there's not any text at all? Not even stuff like item descriptions? Is it purely based on observation and interpretation of the events?

I don't think I'll be getting this right now, since I wouldn't give it the attention it deserves, but it does seem like one of the most interesting games of the year.

i'm a little over an hour in. the game is everything it needed to be, i really like it a lot so far. It feels great, the fighting is dope, its pretty, good sound etc. I only turned it off because i got to a part in one of the underground zones and died and it started me back WAY at the beginning which was like 20 minutes prior. ugh, was hoping there was another save point between then. i'll do it later, just gotta play safer.

getting a bit impatient though, I want an upgrade! anything! I keep hoping it's like megaman x when it comes to character upgrades.

I just can't help but wonder what the game would have turned out like if it only reached the budget they asked for. if it would have actually come out in time, how different it would have been, etc. because this is exactly how I pictured the game would be at bare minimum tbh. It's great, but still, for 2000% of their budget or whatever I'm kind of scratching my head.

doesn't matter though,either way, it's dope.

Will the console versions be 60 FPS? And do we have any idea when it will be out in console? I want to wait to play this on my couch but it looks so good that I'm ready to pick it up on Steam now...

I only played for 30 minutes but it looks like there's no in-game text outside of the options menu. The story is told through animated cutscenes (they're probably not very common) and environmental detail. Some characters also relay information through large, still images.

Will the console versions be 60 FPS?
Very doubtful.

Having beaten the first boss, this holds true. Animated intro cinematic, some bits and pieces told through in-engine sequences and NPCs who might show a series of still images when spoken to.

I got a upgrade pretty quick, the nodes are hidden around the map so just keep exploring and you will find the yellow boxes.

Oh, really? That sounds kind of awesome. Like, instead of text dialogue popping up, it's as if they're "talking" thorugh those images? That's very very interesting.

If this world is as rich as it looks, this will probably be my favorite aspect of it.

Starting to considering playing this now. Hmmm.

Pretty much. One character for example showed a series of four or five stills of a dramatic event, and the player is left to come to their own conclusions about what is depicted. Some parts are necessarily pretty clear, but other details that would be straightforward in text form are quite mysterious as images.

Just a shot in the dark but could your input mapping software be the culprit? I assume you are using something like that if you have a DS4.

i mean even if it is something like that my 360 controller should still work, right?

i tried my ps4 controller both with and without the mapping software too

and unplugged unncessary usb cables (even though i really shouldn't have to, no other game i play has this problem...)

I don't know. Maybe check your list of USB devices and see if there's an extra input device registered that shouldn't be. I'm poorly parroting advice I heard in another thread, so maybe someone smarter can chime in.

Was a backer from the start, so been dying to play for years, haha. Can't wait to play. Too bad I'll be away for a week... but maybe it'll play nice on my Surface Pro 4 while I travel for work.

My first boss was
the bird
in
northern area
. I will go east to see if it's "easier". :D

To any backers, I'm curious if there's a way to turn off the gold companion and weapon? I much prefer the default versions :/

Other than that, loving the game so far! It's everything I had hoped for.

That chain dashing room in the ability shop is doing my absolute nut in. I've got up to 92 so far... I feel like putting my fist right through the screen

EDIT: Okay, got to 101... unlocked a second challenge, which from the looks of it is expecting me to get up to 500 chain dashes... *cries*

EDIT2: Actually, looks like it's about 1,000 chain dashes its expecting... great

EDIT3: It's 800... made it to 816, my fingers are absolutely ruined

Unlocks
purple costume, purple companion, purple blade

Does anyone that DIDN'T back the game see an option to unlock an alternate costume in the game menus? I see it but I can't activate it until I finish the game.

Is the soundtrack up on bandcamp or anything yet?
I don't think so. I backed at a level that should give me the soundtrack yet I haven't seen an unlock key or anything.
