What the heck is this?
Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics is a spin-off of Spike Chunsoft's long-running Mystery Dungeon series, based on popular Japanese indie game One Way Heroics. Gameplay-wise, it's similar to other games in the Mystery Dungeon series, with randomly-generated "dungeons" and turn-based action. However in One Way Heroics, you must constantly be moving to the right, as the screen automatically scrolls, with a deadly light at the far left side that will swallow the player up if touched.
So is this a remake of One Way Heroics?
Sort of! The Wikipedia article can explain the situation better than I can:
The game's producers, Yuichiro Saito and Yoshinori Terasawa, found out about the game One Way Heroics at the Japanese indie game developer gathering BitSummit; they were intrigued by the idea of combining roguelike gameplay with forced scrolling, and found the game fun to play. At first they considered porting the game to consoles, but as the original version of the game was available to play for free, they instead thought of ways to expand and improve on it; eventually they asked the developer of One Way Heroics for permission to develop a new game from scratch, with One Way Heroics as the foundation.
But One Way Heroics is so cheap on Steam, why should I buy this version?
Aside from the overhauled graphics (complete with beautiful new spritework)? Content! Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics boasts a lot of new content, above and beyond the original One Way Heroics and it's expansion, One Way Heroics Plus, combined. For example, the original OWH had eight different classes. Mystery Chronicle boasts a whopping 25, including bonus guest characters from Danganronpa and Shiren the Wanderer!
Additionally, the PS4 and Vita versions are cross-buy, so owners of both systems get two for the price of one!
