Rumor Mill (TAKE WITH GRAIN OF SALT): Marvel vs Capcom 4 revealing at PSX/Capcom Cup

Other things he mentioned:
1. Game will more 'casual focused'. What he meant by this is that they won't have the insane amount of esports push like they did with SFV and CPT. I said 'so like any other game not SFV?' and he said yeah. It won't be a platform like SFV and more like a traditional FG. Capcom is looking to regain casuals lost with SFV and split its FG base as the hardcore (SFV) and the relatively more casual (MvC4).
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT CAPCOM

THIS IS THE GAME TO TREAT AS A PLATFORM

WHY DO YOU NOT WANT MY MONEY

EDIT: Assuming we're talking about post-launch support here.

@Enzo_gt: Probably hearsay that's not true or plans might've changed.
I would be 100% okay with a non-platform title though. I want everything in one package and don't want to miss out on timed dlc like CPT bundles. I'm okay with DLC fighters or season passes or GOTY editions that Capcom's done before as long as they patch the game when its broken.

I also don't know if he meant post-launch support or the launch state of the game, like how SFV was always online with fucked servers and survival mode kicking players out

Well since we're talking about voice acting again, I'll just copy and paste what I said yesterday

On one hand, MvC3 isn't THAT old and it would make sense if they wanted to save money and just reuse voice samples (and MAYBE bring in the voice actors to record a couple new intro lines like Ultimate)

Back when MvC3 was announced and the first footage was shown, they actually debuted new voice actors for the Marvel characters who would later voice the characters on Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes which wasn't out yet. I still remember people ripping on Brian Bloom's Cap for sounding like he was "mocking" the original MSH/MvC's Cap voice. Good times.

But NOW, they seem to have new definitive voice actors now. I'd imagine they would likely replace Greg Ellis with Trevor Devall for Rocket, Rick D. Wasserman with Travis Willingham (Guile!) for Thor, and Eric Loomis with Mick Wingert for Iron Man (Adrian Pasdar is on his way out supposedly). But there's a couple that's going to be awkward.

Roger Craig Smith is THE voice for Cap now, but his Cap sounds almost identical to his Chris Redfield
Laura Bailey is THE voice for Black Widow which is just a slightly deeper, more mature sounding Chun Li (assuming BW gets in which is certainly possible)
Troy Baker is THE voice for Hawkeye now, but it sounds identical to his UMVC3 Nova

On the other hand, who knows what they'll do for Spidey. USM is ending, and the new show will likely have a new voice which will probably debut here.

The easy answer is to ditch Chris for Leon, ditch Nova for Star Lord or Quasar, and not add Black Widow at all because there are infinitely better characters by every metric (and Marvel clearly doesn't want to push her anyway :p).

But seriously, I can imagine that it's going to take some creative voice casting to avoid repeating VAs. It's still kind of impressive that they pulled such a wide net for MvC3... I mean, Charlie Adler for Super Skrull? Talk about an inspired choice.

Fan-made before anyone starts asking. Like those choices tho.

Oh man I forgot how much I really REALLY want Tessa. If the spot was being decided between her and Regina, I'd fight Jawmuncher tooth and nail to get her in.

But yeah, maybe replace Jean Grey with Ms Marvel, and I could totally dig that roster.

Lupinko just tweeted

With a video of Jem and the Holograms - "Time is Running Out"

Oh shit.

Real or not, legit or trolling, there's just NO way they WOULDN'T use Thanos this time around. Assuming MvC4 is real I would guarantee Thanos w/Infinity Gauntlet would be the big bad, final boss. There just NO possible way it couldn't be. It fits way too well.

I like the mock up. Went from Marvel side to Capcom, soon as I saw Anti-Venom I knew some random made it lol. No one liked that haha. Also two Red Earth reps.

But would be fun and is fun to imagine who could be in a potential 4.

Like I said though, I'd be more hyped for a Marvel Super Heroes 2 instead of a cross over. Gimme the "REALITY GEM!" hype please.

Nova's far more popular than Quasar, with Richard Rider just about to make his grand return in the Marvel Universe. As for Black Widow, she's one of (if not the) biggest female Marvel hero right now, so leaving her out would be a huge disappointment. Plus, Capcom usually has Laura Bailey do Chun-Li with a higher pitch, so she could differentiate the two.

With Hawkeye, they can easily get Chris Cox like in EMH & Marvel Heroes to avoid double-casting.

a few folk on other forums are getting tight about the fact that it'd be exclusive if it's real
Fuck 'em. Just like the SFV exclusivity case, if there's a choice between a console maker moneyhatting a game versus that game never happening, I'd take the former every time.

I'm fortunate in that I own a PS4, but if this was being announced as a MS exclusive at a MS conference instead, I'd get an Xbox in a heartbeat

lol fucking hell

capcpom pls
Since it's my post being quoted, by casual I don't mean more casual than MvC3 or other games. More that they won't alienate casuals and would focus on attracting them like NRS does with their games and not make the same mistakes as SFV. The platform vs traditional quote is pretty cut and dry

The Esports rumor contradicts with the one about early testing for the game beginning early 2017. No way would Capcom start testing the game that early if they did not intend on making it a big part of the CPT.

Worst thing would be if Marvel 4 releases and they fall into the same traps as Marvel 3.

It can be a part of CPT but not be a headliner or have CPT colors or bundles like SFV does. How do you even do CPT with a game like Mahvel where most of the stories come from various regions in the USA and not say Korea vs USA vs Japan

This thread has kicked into high gear and is bringing back memories of MvC3 hype cycle.

If this little bit of info is true, it could be because they have a limited time with the Marvel license.
Do these sorts of deals even exist anymore? Isn't every game treated like a service now, not just because they're trying to retain consumers over a long period of time, but also because a lot of times DLC/Season Passes help make up for development costs?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's misconstrued and they're just trying to set it up so that SFV is the premiere Capcom Cup/competitive title and Marvel is the fun game 2 but still at Capcom Cup. There's way too much money to be made here on costumes and characters, and they could basically do it indefinitely and people would eat it up..

I really don't want a "it's coming at e3 instead etc" or some ol bullshit like that. If this ain't true...

NEVER AGAIN.
Yeah I hope this isn't just a teaser and we get a little bit of gameplay, or at least what it looks like in-engine.

I see what you're saying Dahbomb, and I even agree. I only posted the screens cause back then to me it was 0% chance of being true, but now with others also hinting at it, I'm reading everything my friend typed to me in a new light.

Actually I'm okay with that. As long as it means no bullshit grindfest FM stuff, traditional DLCs and FREE balance updates. No shitty stuff like a new reversion less than a year after initial release Capcom!

I dunno, confirmation that MvC4 is a real thing would be enough for me. Something to get excited for in the future, I don't get that much in gaming these days.

They don't have to show shit. They could write "MvC4" on a piece of cardboard paper with mayonnaise as their announcement and I'd be excited to hell and back.

Why the hell is batsu the only rival schools character?

It is so incredibly aggravating to see him when there's so many other better selections. I pray that one day we get a new Rival Schools game so for the people who only played TvC can wake the fuck up.

I worded that wrong. I meant the same thing as you. I would be fine with a "it's coming at e3 or whatever" from capcom, not from a leaker when it doesn't get announced at capcup.

Yeah, it would probably make more sense to just recast Nova... but I would still probably cry if we got Wendell Vaughn in MvC4.

I seriously wouldn't get too bullish on Black Widow getting into a potential MvC4. Maybe it's just the old-school Marvel fan in me, but Black Widow has NEVER been headline material until the MCU, and Marvel still refuses to capitalize on her newfound popularity or even acknowledge her. I feel like, unfair though it is, Black Widow is going to be remembered in the MCU as "the token girl before Carol Danvers came along" (which will be funny, because at this point Carol is hardly a well-defined or interesting character).

Actually, with the new Spider-Man cartoon coming out, perhaps they can pull VAs from that show if the Avengers Assemble characters overlap with others. But remember, Avengers Assemble is gonna keep airing, so Adrian Pasdar is still gonna voice Iron Man in that show. The new Spider-Man show that'll replace Ultimate Spider-Man is in a separate universe.

As for Gwenpool, she's a far better character than she has any right to be.

It was confirmed at Comic Con that Adrian Pasdar will no longer voice Iron Man for Secret Wars (AA Season 4) and onward. They've already have a new guy, Mick Wingert (no relation to Wally Wingert) voicing him in a couple DTVs, so it's presumed he's going to take over.

Yep, since I have the feeling Super Skrull is out, Charlie Adler will probably take over as the voice of MODOK as he's been the voice for a few years now.

I'm still amazed they went as far back as the old 90s Fantastic Four cartoon and got Richard Greico as Ghost Rider!

Another reason CFAS getting canned was a shame. I was so excited to play as Akira :(

Oh, I thought it was only for the new Spider-Man cartoon. That said, does this mean that Roger Craig Smith is leaving the role of Cap (Matthew Mercer voiced Cap in the DTV Christmas special in his place)?

I was under the impression that Batsu was the main protagonist and mascot of Rival Schools. In addition to being in TVC already, that's probably why people put him in their rosters.

Dream reveal:

Black screen. 'Go tell Aunt Rhody' flares up and we are taken to the Beginning Hour house in the RE7 demo. Slow movement. The music swells. The camera runs through the kitchen and towards the front door. The door opens and...as is the rule, 'Welcome to the family' man shows up. He's just about the punch you and close the demo when - a noise from the kitchen stops him unexpectedly. He drags the player and camera to the kitchen to investigate. Getting closer we see a radio and slowly 'We're gonna take you for a ride' overpowers the Aunt Rhody' theme. Family man looks confused when - AN OPTIC FUCKING BEAM RIPS THROUGH THE WALL KNOCKING THE MAN ACROSS THE HOUSE DESTROYING EVERYTHING IN ITS WAKE

Cyclops jumps into view, grabs the players view and shouts 'LETS GO'. Montage of MvC games kicks in and AWAY WE GOOOOOOO

Omg I've had a really bad month and I am trying to work through crippling depression and there are tears coming down my face right now, thank you

On second thought the MvC is more for casuals thing might be just to differentiate it in marketing, which would also be wise. Something that's not for the fighting gaming elite or as prestigious as SF, but accessible and less nebulous as previous MvCs for Marvel fans to jump into is the way to go, just balancing that with depth in the gameplay system is something else, and MvC needs to have an ultra-high ceiling and room for creativity.

I think I trust Combofiend, I think.

I remember trying to explain the DHC glitch to my casual fighting gamer friend and it pretty much sounded like this.

"Settle it in, MvC"

Dunno which one though.

Nope, it's just Pasdar leaving that's been confirmed right now.

Going to be really bummed if Captain Commando isn't brought back.

On the Marvel side, no way they put Ultron but not Loki. He is the only memorable villain the MCU has had. Get rid of Zemo, Goblin, Anti-Venom (seriously?), Taskmaster, Blade, Apocalypse and whoever the hell is next to him and you free up 7 slots for more interesting characters. Defenders + Quake, Black Widow and Misty Knight would be nice. Ms. Marvel would also be a lot more interesting than the captain.

While true, Carol's probably gonna take the "Token Marvel Female" crown from Black Widow whenever her movie comes out, that doesn't change the fact that Black Widow has a ton of fans around the world. It's bad enough that the game (if it does indeed exist) may miss out on Scarlet Witch, but leaving out Black Widow would cause riots.

I was under the impression that Batsu was the main protagonist and mascot of Rival Schools. In addition to being in TVC already, that's probably why people put him in their rosters.

He IS the effective main character of the games, it's just that Rival Schools has a crazy fun cast and people want to see other characters.

I kinda get why people would like characters other than Batsu, but it kills me when people ask why it's always Batsu. Like, why is Ryu always the Street Fighter rep if there is only one? Why wasn't Vega/Claw in Smash instead of Ryu?!?

It's bad enough that the game (if it does indeed exist) may miss out on Scarlet Witch, but leaving out Black Widow would cause riots.

This is dangerous territory to get into, but... much like Carol's "popularity" in comics, how much do you think Black Widow's popularity in the MCU is just because of being visible for "token female" status?

I truly and genuinely believe that will change for Carol, and the movie will probably help nail down a definitive version of her and elevate the character to the status Marvel seems to want her to be. However, Marvel is at least pushing Carol, they seem to genuinely not care about Black Widow being anything more than filler until more "real" female characters arrive. That's kind of messed up, but I think it's the truth, by the time we have Wasp and Captain Marvel and maybe Mantis (if they play their cards right) Black Widow will be a distant memory.

In the short term, I think if MvC4 has a good cast of noteworthy female characters there could be basically no fallout over mot including Black Widow, but they're going to be starving for good female characters of they still want to restrict Fox-owned characters (hoping that rumor about them lightening up is true).

Kingpin, Purple Man, & Cottonmouth would all like to have a word with you. And if they get Thanos right, he may be next in line (
Dormammu as well, but they've only begun to set him up
).

If there is a MvC4, I hope the roster picks are original or really unexpected. I think a character like "GWENPOOL" would be as forgettable down the road as 2009 Nathan Spencer and RE5 Evil Purple Jill. I hope they also avoid references to just the new events at Marvel, because having Civil War 2 or Secret Wars (the new one) references will be as jarring in the future as the Secret Invasion and Shadowland references and stages

They have to save Kingpin as the final boss though.

They'll be as memorable as their movesets.

Spencer has created tons of hype moments in Marvel 3 if you've followed the game.

They should have a mix of personal favorites, legacy characters, and whoever else they think they can do justice.
