I had a small mind-microblown moment last night concerning solving how to get on a platform in Akala

There was a platform full of bokobins, some with bomb arrows. It was quite the fight considering there were no stairs to get onto the platform so I could melee them, and sniping with arrows was a bit tricky because I could get my face blown up by bomb arrows if I was too slow. I ended up using the updraft caused by the bomb arrows setting fire to the grass to float and shoot them in bullet time.

But the real challenge was figuring out how to get onto the platform to open the chest there. None of the grass was close enough to the platform to create and updraft and float to. And there was no way to climb up there either, so I just stood there stumped thinking about it.

Right when I was about to give up, it started to rain and holy shit, the recessed area the platform was on started filling up with the water so I could Cryonis myself up.
These mini-experiences have been consistenly been some of the best stuff in this game

Some of the NPC interactions are really funny.

small random side quest spoilers:
I was climbing a random mountain when I found a small pond in the shape of a heart. A beautiful sunset, flowers and little chirping birds everywhere, it was very romantic. There was a Gerudo who said she finally found the fated pond of love or something where she would find the man of her dreams and it must be that guy on the other side of the pond because he's the only man there. I went to talk to him and he was very shy and awkward. He said he fell in love with the Gerudo girl on first sight but can't muster up the courage to talk to her. He asked me to give her flowers and talk to her on his behalf. So I arranged a date between them, they liked each other and the guy gave me 20 rupees for my help. Then the Gerudo girl chastises him for being so cheap after all I did for them and he gave another 100 rupees. Then he says something like "What have I done? That was all the money I had, can I have it back?" The Gerudo gets mad and he's like "Never mind, you can keep the money." xD

And thanks to this funny little quest I now finally have enough cash to buy that Sheika chest armor and complete the set!

BOTW fundementally solves three big beefs with modern open world games.

Large invisible boundaries that segment the word.

Mountains aren't invisible boundaries with select points of ingress. Climbing mountains is a fundemental way to explore religions and access multiple layers of the environment with different gameplay dynamics and rewards.

Yup, I love this so much. The worst feeling in an open world game is when you realize you have spent so much time going the "wrong" way to reach a particular destination. In BotW, if you ended up on the non-optimal path, you can just make a new one up. Every time.

What the fuck did I just find. Horse-related stuff. Spoilers maybe?
It has two heads and infinite sprint. Is this thing's existence explained anywhere?

omg that's how you reach it?!? Fuck lmao I'm long gone from there.

Why would it break?

I don't know! I have seen multiple times on Reddit and even here that this armor set wasn't worth it because it seemed like such a huge investment for something that degrades. I am happy I was misinformed.

Given the unique acquisition method and the fact it is comprised of raw materials, It seemed feasible the set could come apart. That's why I believed it.

This is a bit spoilery since other people might want to do that quest. But yeah, its amusing that the
Gerudo girl doesn't change her mind even though she gets mad at him like 3 times in their initial meeting.

Maybe they were referring to the weapons and bow? Wouldn't make sense if this armor set could break given how upgrading works.

I might be wrong but feels like armour does fuck all in this game. Upgrading from 3 defense to 5 I don't even know how much effect that has.

Also I've unlocked all the map, done about 50-60 shrines, all dungeons and been to all villages and establishments and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of meaningful stuff to do except for getting collectibles, some side quests and the remaining shrines. Final fight with Ganon remains so I guess I'll just do that now and call it with this game.

I'm losing my mind trying to get a dragon horn shard for my champions tunic upgrades. Any tips on getting Farosh's horn? I can't figure out where to go that gives me the best chance to quickly fly over and shoot him in the horn. It seems incredibly tedious too since it's supposed to be one drop per day, and if you mess up you have to fast forward and wait around until the damn thing respawns.

i gotchu

What are the characteristics of the Soldier's armor pieces?

i.e. does lightning strike them? do they slow you down because they're heavy? do they affect stamina?

Armour does exactly what it sounds like lol. Wear am our and let an eenemy hit you and then take it off to see the difference.

So I have the helm and chest piece for the Zora armor, any hints for the leg piece? Do you get it from the quest line or do you have to find it yourself?

Once you've upgraded your Sheikah Slate, there is a female Zora in Zora's Domain who will send you on a quest to take a picture of something.

I've noticed nothing about them other than they provide more defense. I use the legs of the set. They don't cause you to be hit by lightning.

Does it make it harder to swim? Or maybe consume more stamina while climbing?

Nope nothing just good defense, honestly defense is such a ridiculous stat once it starts stacking so high.

Ive said it before but i am at 48 defense and lynels can't take off much more than 2 hearts on their main swings.

Does the soldier set have the best defense once fully upgraded?

I'm not entirely sure on this, but I feel like they make a lot of noise so you can't stealth nearly as well?

Maybe it's my imagination

Holy shit, my first encounter with a
Lynel
. We were staring at each other for a good minute.
do they not attack unless you pull out your weapon?

Just left the first village, any reason to use the horses? Just seems less open with a horse and no glider, apparently I also have to go to area where the horse is to whistle...

You have to let go of your inhibitions and use everything. Even that super rare powerful weapon is intended to be disposable. Let it go. Once you free yourself of the notion that you have to save things, the game becomes very improvisational and spontaneous. You always have to use what you've collected, whether it is ideal or not.

Yeah I used that special Zora trident against my first fight with a Lynel, don't regret it one bit.

The horses in this game "drive" themselves. That alone is a nice feature that makes them fun to use. Plus, there's stables all over the world.

Well after 1 hour of fighting i bested the final boss before doing any dungeon it's time to do those now:P

Jeez man this game is so epic i teared up during the finale fight.

Omg.
:')

I had 7 hearts and the
master sword......

Now time to go for the true/best ending!

Hang on, I have 8 hearts and I still wasn't able to
pull out the master sword without dying

Am I doing something wrong?

You can board horses at the stable and then get them from any stable on the map.

Really depends on the terrain you're traversing. If you're sticking to the road or fields horses are great.

I'm an idiot and what I love about this game.

Every river I came across I take the long way around and on my commute to work and day-dreaming about Zelda, I realize I have the tool(s) necessary to cross rivers.

Legs and helm might be best or second best but the champions tunic out classes the soldiers chests defense.

I feel like you might be correct, I was testing just how quiet the shiekah set was and I noticed just how loud the soldiers set is but I only compared those two sets against each other so I had no other metrics lol
