In fairness Sony has a great track record right now for their big studios thriving
It's not like Microsoft's acquisitions are comparable to EA's or something, though. Rareware is still the most controversial one and even then they still get games out in the modern IP, have their notable IPs used, and retained many of the old staff.

Wait did i read right? they'll keep their games multiplateforme? WTF why buy Bungie to keep games multiplat Sony has no fucking logic right WTF!!

I thought the narrative was that folks wanted Sony to buy studios and publishers to hedge against MS buying up everything?
Now it seems it's all about exclusivity for you?

watch as "organically growing" studios will suddenly be not important anymore :)

People were already calling for Sony to buy Remedy back in 2019, and Sony tried to buy Leyou, a mid-sized publisher, back in mid 2020.

Both MS and Sony are employing the same strategy and acquiring content and studios that fit their long term plans.

This is a terrible move from Sony, they have paid 3 billion on a studio that's on a downward curve, I don't understand it to be honest 😕. Getting Activision is comparable to atomic bomb going off in the industry. Acquiring Bungie is the equivalent of letting off a firework in your back yard.
So you must consider MS paying $80 billion on a whole publisher that's on a steep downward curve just as bad as well?

This makes sense, especially as a counter to MS nearly cornering the FPS market. The price tag is not that high when you look at Bungie's revenue.

I think they should pump some money into them to expand, and work on more than one IP/game at once.

But why? They could have bought Sega or Konami for that...
Why would they buy Konami? Is Sony opening a Pachinko parlour or an chain of gyms? They should focus on video game developers.

Remember, Sony isn't just trying to buy up legacy IP catalogs, they're looking for people to make games that will sell systems.

Would be cool if they got them on a Resistance revival especially since it was one of PlayStation's attempts at a 'Halo-killer'

So they bought a company that only has ONE not so solid IP, and of which most of the talented have departed a while ago?

This is just showing their dick back to Microsoft but with a laughable response.

A purchase that doesn't even come close to Bethesda and Activision in my opinion, but good for them. Buy EA or Ubisoft, and we're talking.

Need really a clear answer for both MS and Sony deals.

are we going to see future COD and Bundie games on all the platforms?

everyone here just has an educated guess. no real 100% answer.

You know right such plan can be changed if sony want?
You know right that what you are doing is called goalpost moving?!

Like i said, you can think what you want, there is no way in hell that sony has more budget than M for acqusitions, logic says that, an official news says that, i have no other arguments tbh.

I really don't care about this stuff, if sony can continue with his output for the next 30 years i'm an happy cunt, this is the only thing that matter to me.

They're also the only studio to make a competent Halo game. Additionally, the largest gap in Sony's lineup is a competent FPS.

You don't buy a company for that amount without seeing what they are working on. Sony thinks it will be a hit, let's hope it is.

Hot take: people said M$ overpaid for zenimax, but after this, can you really say that?

Anyways I like Bungie, their games have some of the best gunplay, so it's a good get, money is relative, in a few years Bungie could be worth a lot more so what we know right?
nice try but bungie isn't generating the kind of revenue of an Activision. MS paid for more numerous development studios in the deal

I think its a good company to try and make your COD killer with.

I personally would want Capcom and Konami if I were either company. Not sure why those two were not moved on yet.

This feels like Sony trying to stick it to MS than buying it because they want it.

Regardless, this is all so dumb. I want everyone to be able to play all games on all platforms(except first party titles).

I hate this new trend.
Do you think this deal just started discussions in the past couple of weeks?

I like to know when I said otherwise in my posts....

It means that Sony was desperate to make a counterpunch to Microsoft. Approached Bungie since this would hurt symbolically, but Bungie had some serious conditions. Jim being desperate, agreed to said conditions.

You think a big company managed to put together a multi billion dollar deal in a week?

As for this news, couldn't give less of a shit.

Give me a nudge when they buy Square Enix.

Just goes to show who is insecure if this "game", Jim very confident in the PlayStation brand, buy up a dev, instantly without any ambiguity or subtext announces they will stay multiplatform so all those people getting ready with their Destiny is garbage tropes, don't need to be afraid.

Rest easy xbox gamers, Jim's got you too.

Bungie prints money with D2. So from a financial perspective, I can see the benefit of this deal. Also, the fact that Sony wants to leverage Bungie's expertise in developing GaaS games for their own WWS games.

Other than that, it's hard to see the intent behind this. Unless Bungie themselves approached Sony for this acquisition to secure their studio future. They could also make new IP exclusive for PS platforms while using the D2 revenues to offset their dev costs. Their IP makes them a strong candidate for acquisition because any development is low risk because of the sheer amount of recurring revenue Destiny 2 generates for Bungie.

Bungie made Halo and Destiny dude ....

Their talent is worth more than those old IP IMO
Dude, Momotaro Dentetsu was significant enough that NINTENDO LICENSED IT FROM KONAMI to make a Switch release. We're talking some crazy unheard-of Nintendo action. Don't underestimate them just because they aren't the current hot western FPS. And calling them "old IP" is ironic considering that 1) Good IP ages like wine and 2) Halo and it's derivatives aren't exactly the new hotness anymore either.

What answers do you need? Will you see future Bethesda games on Xbox? The answer is no. No reason to believe otherwise with Activision.

I'm sorry. I'm just going on official news. Do you know something I don't? Got a friend at ms?
I wouldn't keep my hopes up if I were you. Microsoft has much more to gain and much less to lose than Sony. And their MO has always been to starve and destroy the competition. Now they have the means to do so.

I feel like this would have been awesome like 15 years ago, but now I can't even remember anything Bungie has done. Destiny had no soul and was just a decent-looking shooter with top-tier voice talent talking about absolutely nothing.
