Alone In The Dark (2024) |OT| Christian Slater and Tara Reid Not Included

I still play this game on a somewhat regular basis. Put in a few hours last night. Just damn cozy for me.
I've finished it with both Edward and Emily (started with Edward but I think I actually like Emily's run even more). I'll take a break from it now but will probably pick it up again in the fall when it's dark and windy outside again.

Finally got this and played 3 hours straight with the old school mode.

Absolutely fantastic. Love the music, the voice acting and the puzzles. Combat is clumsy but that's it. Can't wait to go back to it today. Will end up high on my GOTY list. It's so much better than what I thought it would be.

Great to hear! I hope you enjoy it enough to play through it as both Emily and Edward.

Oh, I'm sure. I'm constantly thinking about the difference between scenarios. How long is a full play through?

8-12 hours, maybe a little more

And then replaying as the other character gives you slightly different scenarios and stuff. Different ending too.

Not long. Maybe about 8 hours or so. I think its length is pretty much perfect for the story. There are some clear differences in the story between the characters which makes it worthwhile playing twice, although it's not two different games or anything.

Performance mode is dynamic res. Anyone tried this on the Pro yet?

I may do another playthrough because from memory the Quality and Performance modes were identical settings, just the resolution being lower.

Well, I was playing it before the Pro launch and then I've completed it at the new console. For me it seamed like the game was equally sharp in the performance and quality. I've made even screenshot to look closely. That said I was looking at it outside of the combat. Still I played it to the end in 60 fps (on launch PS5 I was playing on quality mode) and I was happy with it.

I finally played this. Exploring the hospital was great. Everything else was meh. Biggest sin was the extreme lack of scares. Too bad :/
I liked the tomb better as far as combat sections. Tomb > Park > Bayou > Port > Boat > Hospital > Graveyard > Blizzard > Trenches > Oil Field

After some time away, I can confidently say it has high level PS3-tier graphics. It is masked by the time of day and strong environmental light sources a lot of the time, but it cannot hide behind those in Teroella. That level of quality is perfectly acceptable for an AA production. I did have more framerate hickups with the game after the update unfortunately.

I saw the new intro and while I found the cinematics splicing amateurish I did enjoy the slower accoustic rendition of House of the Rising Sun (originally by Bob Dylan) with new Alone In The Dark-themed lyrics. New game plus feels a lot more like what the game should have been to begin with due to the enemy remixing. It unfortunately comes with the worst elements of Hard mode. Stingy bullet pickups, spongy enemies, tanky as hell facehuggers, and impossible to manage spawns during final boss battle. Worst of all, the difficulty during new game plus is locked unlike it is in other difficulties. That makes the ending tied to the final boss encounter unattainable for me.

P.S. The chapter 4 ending is only for Emily so the update notes about one for Carnby are wrong (though a Chapter 4 interaction behind Wishing Tree is necessary for a secret ending of Carnby in Chapter 5).
Ps3 graphics? Come on ...

Ps3 graphics? Come on ...

worse in many aspects actually. hair rendering is horrible for example, and even gets mogged by PS2 games.

I also found a hilarious attempt at doing a planar reflections mirror, where the camera that captures the reflection is positioned incorrectly, so it looks like the mirror is actually a monitor that shows a video feed of a go-pro stuck to your character's head 😭

all it has going for it is PBR materials and a higher polygon count. than a PS3 game
