I know I'm late on this but the reason the US didn't win for 2012 or 2016 is because there was a huge argument over allotment of funds with the USOC and the IOC. Chicago wanted it so bad that Obama himself went and spoke to the IOC pleading his case. Because of the disagreement about funding, Chicago was shot down in the first round of voting, which was considered a humiliating slap, and a message sent by the IOC that there would be no more US games until they reworked their contract. Basically the IOC thought the USOC was getting too big of a percentage of the marketing and tv deals that came from the US. This was from an open ended contract signed in 1996. Then the USOC president said they would make no more bids for US cities until it was resolved. Hence no bid for the 2020 games, because it was just resolved a few months ago.

So now the US is expected to bid for the 2024 games (or 2022 winter), and they would probably be a shoo-in except some people expect Paris to get it for their centennial of hosting. So now they might not get it until 2028. The IOC chairman said, just before the 2020 deadline that he wished the US would make a bid, so you can see, they want the games back in the US now that the shenanigans are over (purely money reasons, the US companies are the cash cows, and they make the most, and pay the most with a US games). So it gives them a shot to beat Paris in 2024 but we will see.

Yeah its pretty fucked up :/

Though at the end of the day if the Olympics falls out of favor with the IOC and ratings decline the IOC is fucked. I know Salt Lake was planning to bid for 2022 but the USOC decided not to submit a bid at all...even though they had a deal. Salt Lake will probably bid for 2026 though.

Meanwhile, in France.

So how did the US report this?

So how did the US report this?

They showed a montage of the three olympic relays and showed how it alternated between australia, france and the US. They basically said that Australia was the favorite and the US might have a chance if they swam perfectly. Afterward they interviewed the team and they seemed fairly happy, but it seemed like each member was secretly blaming another member for not performing well enough lol.

Honestly I hope Istanbul gets 2020, Tokyo already hosted the games and Madrid is in big problems now. Giving Olympics to Istanbul would further boost the economic growth and show the world we belong in the 21st century.

Out of all the Muslim countries I think Turkey is probably the most progressive. The UAE is getting there as well, but their need for tourism has almost forced them to become lax on the Islamic law. Anyways, I'm sure you guys will either get Euro cup or the olympics for 2020

What is the financial situation of the country? I had heard that after Athens I heard the Olympic committee is going to avoid giving games to smaller countries. Would be an interesting choice.

I think Tokyo will win though.

Yeah, I read an interview of Jacques Rogge and he said that the focus is on emerging countries. Would be good to get it after China, Brazil, Russia(winter) get to host.

@Wafflecakes: we don't have the same problem of Greece, growth will slow down this year thanks to normalization of the trade deficit.

Lets see how well she shoots without all those stabilisers. Far too many aids in the shooting except for skeet.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're trained without them. It is better to become great at your sport without the stabilisers so when they're put on your performance is effortless.

Hopefully if Turkey wins it can put the investment in required to actually win some medals. Not a fan of countries which don't win medals getting the games. Just me. I like rooting for the home team (when USA is not in the match of course) and Athens was depressing.
