In Canada on vacation watching CTV. Live coverage is definitely better than NBC's shit, but medal ceremonies take FOREVER. Canada's women's eight won the silver, but you would think they were the only team out there...and I thought US coverage was biased!

(Volleyball)
When Bulgaria won the set, their coach expressed his joy but quickly regained his composure. LOL.

Things I never really realised about the Olympics until ours: There's a very definite 'lunch break' where many events stop to pick up again in the afternoon/evening.

I've been watching Eurosport in German in Gran Canaria the last week. Now back in the UK, and I'm wowed by the BBC's coverage. Eurosport were literally awful at showing anything of any interest during daytime; their schedule usually consisted of showing swimming and then showing weightlifting until swimming came back on. They put on more interesting stuff at night like volleyball, but geez, weightlifting can be mildly entertaining but it gets so dull so quickly. Luckily there was also a Spanish channel dedicated to showing literally every event a Spaniard competed in, even if they were rubbish, which was quite entertaining.

On another note, GB could go for gold in the shooting later today (3pm GMT). Apparently our guy was coached by a Sheikh from Dubai's royal family.

it's the first time i've understood the actual structure of the thing. It's still a clusterfuck, but incredibly easy to follow everything and all your countries athletes. Helped by the BBC's excellent coverage as well.

Shocking, for the first time this Olympics, there's nothing on that I actually want to watch until the cycling in a couple hours.

I can't help feeling that the BBC deserves some recognition from the IOC. It's not just this Olympics; their coverage has always been superior, and I think they've done a lot to promote interest in the *entire* olympics, not just the major events with significant GB medal hopes. I'd be very curious to hear just how many countries have people who are dissatisfied with their local broadcaster's coverage and have in turn found a way to get the BBC feed.

Third French fencer let herself get riled by the ref, allowing the Italian to dominate 5-1. Italy could be pulling away with this match.

Apparently the IOC gave them a better deal on continued TV coverage than they otherwise would precisely because of this

Holy shit, didn't know about this. Looks intense.

The animation in the sailing is the most impressive graphic I've seen in the Olympics.

Finally I have a clue what is going on. If you haven't seen any yet, definitely give it a watch. Right now, the guys who are leaning right over the waves is mighty impressive.

Is it wrong that as soon as I turned Sailing on, I heard the voice of Inigo Montoya say "I wonder if he is using the same wind we are?"

Same.

I'll sadly be missing some of the cycling though, since I have a driving lesson.

Over the years they have invested our tax payers money wisely into the Iplayer and streaming services. It's heads and shoulders above anything else.

I read this article a while back about how BBC have been trying to bring the Iplayer over to the US on a pay per model. However, US cable suppliers have threatened to drop BBC America if they do as they see the BBC's technology as a big threat.

Sailing tends to have some really cool technology following it
mostly because it's funded by a bunch of rich guys.

I can't find the sailing at all on NZ TV though... Fucking Sky.

Gets on my tits when people complain about the license fee. The Olympics coverage alone is worth it.
