Well given China's history of institutional doping in a wide variety of international sports (not even to mention the rampant doping in cycling in general) people will always be skeptical.
Oh please. Cycling gets a lot of people caught out because of the amount of testing. Don't think for one minute that something like baseball or basketball is free of doping.

Yeah...I was looking forward to a China/GB final.

The fact that athletes don't get an appeal is fucking dumb.

On what grounds would they appeal anyway? She clearly started her lap before the previous rider had finished and from what I can tell, that's instant disqualification. What good would appealing do?

Rules are rules I guess, and i'd love to see how close it truly was.

I just scooched back to the thing I think they're referring to, and I don't really see it; they said I believe it was 15m either side of the line, and as far as I could tell they were in the process of overtaking when they crossed the line. I guess it partially matters *what* exactly counts as the point they measure it from; whether it's when you start the overtake, when you pass, or when you're clear of your teammate.

I remember in the 90's when Chinese female swimmers came out of nowhere and started dominating. At the time they claimed it was because they ate caterpillar larvae. Turns out the were all doing steroids and HGH.

And before that there was already a big history of substance abuse everywhere. Even Carl Lewis got into that, didn't he?

I think that unless there's proof, people claiming doping every time China dominates something nowadays is just salty as fuck. Innocent until proven guilty and sht that should be out of this thread anyway. We are here to admire the athletes, not call them out without proof.

Can't believe we fell foul of one of the few rules which is straight DQ with no route of appeal.

Every DQ so far has allowed for warnings (boxing, badminton) expect TeamGB's one. Complete bullshit.

This table shows position by population or GDP, which is quite interesting.

But yeah, giant countries like the US and China are always going to win more because they make up about half the world's population between them, but on a per-person basis they're usually pretty poor. Australia is usually really impressive for such a small country.

Per population doesn't remotely makes sense given the entry limit. The US can field at 10 swimmers and runners in many events and 5 basketball teams, China can have 20 table tennis players, but they are not allowed to.

Unlucky girls it's a silly mistake but these things happen

Can't believe people are saying 'anything but gold is unacceptable' and similar

The athletes don't owe people anything and give their all

A real shame...

Illegal changeover between two cyclists. They didn't get any advantage, kind of like if a runner ran out of his lane in a relay.

The fact it doesn't really give an advantage really makes it an unfair judgement. Should have just warned them and let them compete.

I agree, it's just serve, set, spike. Every single time, hardly any blocking plus everyone is old and ugly looking. no benefits at all from it.

you are watching the wrong matches then. beachvolleyball is usually extremely exciting and has players like this

(Rumour) "Is that Victoria Pendleton has already left the building. Apparently she fronted up and said the disqualification was her fault, for leaving the changeover zone too earlier."

Oh no Victoria. I can't imagine her crying after watching that documentary. Makes me too upset.

Yeah that's the thing, the whole point of the first rider is to let the second get up to top speed, and going early just makes it harder for the one who sprints to the finish.
