Watching the end of the basketball. All this deliberate fouling is pretty irritating. The final minute of the game has lasted about five minutes. And the French keep fouling us, so we keep getting penalities, but no one's getting booked for it, which is odd.

That's why I stopped watching the NBA. Such an annoying feature of the sport.

KJT? Post a picture. I've not seen her.

Sounds like this is one of your first basketball experiences.

So I'm trying to find out when the Men's 100 m events start for someone in my timezone (Mountain Time) so I go to the official page :

http://www.london2012.com/athletics/event/men-100m/index.html

Who are these bums? I don't see Bolt, Gay, Powell etc. It looks like none of these guys have even gone under 10 seconds. I see a Pakistani and Bengali in there, lollerz.

So my question is - What day and time is the 100 m dash? I'm talkiing about even the first rounds.

You want 'even the first rounds', you'll get those 'bums', as you put it. The big names don't have to run in the preliminaries.

At the top of the page you can pick preliminaries, round 1, semifinals, and finals. Immediately below the one you pick it gives the time for that event.

If the final minute of the game has only lasted 5 minutes then consider yourself lucky. During the NBA Playoffs last season I'm pretty sure there were a few games in which the last minute went on for about two weeks.

that's the preliminary rounds for those who still need to qualify. The heats are a few hours after (starts at 12:30 UK time)

Most networks like NBC and BBC make money through cable subscriptions and commercials, PBS makes it's money through private donations.

You should remove the BBC from that. The BBC is not funded like that, or like any network in the world. It really is unique and is pointless to try and compare it with any other network.

Thanks, I came in to post that I actually started reading the page and figured it out.

Regarding Olympics Tennis.

I think for some of these Tennis player, the Olympics are just as important as a GS, only different. While in the GS they are playing for themselves, in the Olympics they're actually playing for their countries. I'm pretty sure both Federer and Del Potro were proud of representing Switzerland and Argentina.

The atmosphere in the semi when murray won was the loudest i have ever seen, completely different crowd than gs

Federer I'll bet my left nut he's hunting that gold medal more for himself than for his country

Delpo on the other hand is very much into his country

And it's fucking glorious.
That it is. 24 ad-free HD channels for the Olympics, I hope they keep that going for Rio in 2016 and it's not just a one-off while it's in our country, because having access to so many sports without adverts interrupting them is brilliant.

Didn't they do similar coverage for Beijing?

many countries have their own tv channels that have zero ads and are funded by a tv license.

Regarding that knee to the face by Alex Morgan; who was at fault? I'm pretty sure you can't knee the goalie in the face, but my gf says the goalie is at fault.

GB was aiming for 5 - 7 medals in swimming, looks like we'll end up with 3.

I assume that the open water marathon swimming also counts as swimming (that is, I assume that prediction wasn't limited to the events in the Aquatics Centre), and I think we have reasonable medal chances in that.

Everyone with a TV pays for the BBC in Britain. We have no advertisements whatsoever on the channels they provide. No subscription either.

Don't worry he doesn't know what he's talking about with the US channels either. NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX are not subscription or "basic cable" based (except the cable extensions like msnbc etc). They are ad based. They are commercial and not non profit like the BBC. PBS is also non profit, and is a PUBLIC broadcasting company, funded by about half donations/grants from individuals and companies, the rest government backed.

However, PBS doesn't own it's station affiliates. It's affiliates pay PBS to put certain broadcasting on the air and PBS acts as a body to acquire the programming and distribute it to it's affiliates. But because these stations pay PBS for the broadcasting, they for the most part can choose what they air and don't have to answer to PBS that much. Therefore the programming is part national and part local (like depending on the city local).

So really, the reason the "American Equivalent" of PBS confused people so much was because there really isn't one. PBS is the closest as far as it's public, but it doesn't have near the size or funding of the BBC or CBC, it's funded in different ways(the affiliates paying them), and they do not own their partner broadcasting stations.

edit: I wasn't completely clear on the funding so to be clear it goes.... Donations to local affiliates by business/people > affiliates pay PBS for the programming that PBS acquires (way #1 PBS gets money)> Government also funds part of it (Way #2 PBS gets money).

FYI fellow Brits: the BBC is also funded by advertisements. If you visit any of the BBC websites from outside the UK you will see ads. Their channels outside the UK (e.g. BBC America) are also funded by ads. They also license their shows to commercial networks within the UK.

So saying that the BBC is not a commercial network isn't entirely true. We just don't see it because of our licence fee.
It's pretty shit, and the only reason his gold hasn't been revoked is because the IOC doesn't want to embarrass the host nation.
Bullshit.

No, that prediction just was for indoor swimming.

On the other hand, GB will beat the minimum expectation for tennis, shooting, and has smashed the expectation (0-1) for judo (2).

I still think it's all pointless to observe it though. I think it was Coe who said the most important thing was not to win medals, but to create great moments for GB. I wholeheartedly agree with that.

If they were going to revoke it, they would have. They didn't have any issues DQing the UK female sprinters who were topped to win a gold, so they're not playing favourites.
