Phelps just praised British food. He *must* be doping.

He praised the food in the Olympic village and i'm not surprised, they've had cameras around there in the build up and the canteen is something I imagine most people would love - a huge range of different food from around the world is available there.

But he should praise British food anyway... :(

Wasn't able to see the 10,000m live... Mo Farah winning it in great fashion and also doing the celebration the crew on A League of Their Own invented when he was on the show! Brilliant.

Especially when your country doesn't know shit about a sport, taking a great coach can change things radically and fast (if you have a big pool of athletes where to search for), because he knows how to advice you with training regimes etc. If I recall correctly Chinese Race walkers in the past were often expelled during the races because they committed a lot of errors in their walking, probably the Italian coach corrected that.

isn't that one of the reasons why US gymnasts are so godly currently, an influx of coaching talent from the collapse of the soviet union? or am i just talking out of my arse?

Does Phelps still eat something like 8 thousand calories a day?

Velodrome Action yet to come, Men's Omnium, Women's Omnium, Men's Keirin, Men's sprint & Women's Sprint. Hope we stay on top form

I think the Men's Omnium might be the first event that we don't win (without being disqualified!); Ed's not as close as I'd like, although it might be that his favoured events are later. He certainly did well in the elimination race, at least.

Well his weakest events are now over, he should be strong at everything else.

Fucking yes.

The second and third sets were cool glimpses of the true Brazil team. It's good to know the players are still capable of playing that well.

The BBC reckon we're in with a chance of a medal because the three events tomorrow are three of his favourites.

The BBC did a feature earlier in the Olympics about dietary habits; they mentioned Beth Tweddle, Chris Hoy and Michael Phelps, and they mentioned that he still ate a lot but not as much as he used to.

Still only 138 of 302 Events Determined. Tomorrow is the real half way point as far as medals are concerned.

Could anyone in the know possibly sum up how it can go for some countries now?

US will swap their dominance in swimming to track and field, GB is finished with Rowing but has Sailing now. I don't know much about other countries strengths, other than the African nations on track and field.

I would like to know as well.

Don't we all?

The Men's team got hurt really bad when they lost against the USA in Brazilian soil. Since then, they've been a little... Shaken.

The Women's team's performance, meanwhile, is simply unexplainable.

But no one should count them out yet.

what a fucking day for team gb. so good

only thing that can raise my mood is if tomorrow people are saying "double gold medalist andy murray".

I'm not really informed, but checking Wikipedia, The masterminds behind US womens gymnastics coaching are Béla Károlyi and his wife, who are from Romania and trained a certain Nadia Comaneci.

From Wiki
In 2001, the National Team Coordinator position was handed over to Károlyi's wife, Marta. While Marta has retained some aspects of Béla's program, such as the training camp system, she has reduced the frequency of the camps. Her approach appears to be different, and generally more acceptable to both coaches and gymnasts. It has also yielded impressive competitive results: between 2001 and 2007, American women won a combined total of 34 medals in World Championship and Olympic competition, including two team titles, the 2004 Olympic and 2008 Olympic all-around, eight individual event World Championships titles, and the 2005 and 2007 World Championships all-around.

Um... I think BBC's Olympic Tonight may have missed quite a chunk out of today's medal haul for GB.

EDIT: Wait a minute... I watched the wrong one. I'm such an idiot.

Okay, question: blade runner...I'm all for him running. And it's great. I don't know if he is disadvantaged at all by having them. But wouldn't he be advantaged just not having to worry about like pulling something or his legs getting tired?

I want to not be ignorant on this.

Spreading & believing bullshit against one certain group of people because of some pretty obvious prejudice which isn't even true?

Very late because i haven't checked GAF today, but:

1 - I'm not american (Brazilian) and i really don't lke the republican party because to me is also some sort of fundamentalism or insane conservative, but i do believe what i wrote even tough here in Brazil i'm considered a member of the "left wing".

2 - Yao's claim comes from Ric Bucher's book about him, i read it a long time ago, but i'll eat crow if i had anmnesia and the story is different.

3 - I used the term totalitarism for China because of the lack of individual freedom for them. I believe you can compare then to those old cold war countries because the only difference is that they introduced capitalism for instances where it was good for the government. There are a lot of chinese people living in Brazil (like in other countries) and you can[t help but feel sorry for the things their goverment does the their people. Forcing athletes and manipulating them like puppets is a well know fact. I don't think calling them out for this is racism. Not at all.

4 - And yes, if you ask me, Ledecky is just as suspicious as Shiwen. Anyone with any kind of knwoledge in professional sports training is talking about this and rightfully so. People from all over the world try to cheat without getting caught (in pro sports) and the whole point of my post was that this is way easier when you have governments backing you up and shutting up the media who dares to question their methods and/or achievments.

That's what I was thinking, I can only assume they're built to be as leg-like as possible.

I don't think he's advantaged but one of the reasons they were reluctant to let him compete was that in the future prosthetics could lead to a competitive advantage and that this sets a precedent.

Looks like KJT is a red
