I wonder if ITV bothered to broadcast anything over the last 2 weeks.
Err...no. That's not the article from the font page of Le Monde as it doesn't even have the mention of the BBC and sounds nothing alike.
Sorry, but I'm going to believe BBC News' translation (by their French correspondent) over you finding a random editorial from the same newspaper and passing it off as the front page article.
Is coverage like that guaranteed for all Olympics going forward? I hope so.
But we also wanted to ensure that the BBC was in the best position to continue to deliver great experiences for years to come. The infrastructure and video delivery systems we have put in for the games will be used for future coverage for both BBC Sport and the rest of the BBC.
I'd quite like to read that since I didn't pay much attention to the bidding process when it was happening (aside from a few anecdotes such as officials ensuring IOC members would only see green traffic lights when travelling across London).
But I can't find any book called The Perfect Pitch by the author Malcolm Gladwell. Do you mean Jon Steele instead?
There you goErm, I'm not trying to "pass anything off" as something else. I'm not French by any means so not taking sides.
I just happened to read Le Monde frontpage this morning. It is the editorial on the frontpage, word for word. It can be found between the main headline about Egypt and a satyrical drawing about Syria. Anyone can check today's frontpage on their website probably.
It sounds nothing like the BBC translation for sure, that is the surprising part. The editorial is similar to what I could read in Belgian/Dutch newspapers this morning. Another typical "Now the Olympics magic is over, back to the harsh reality". Just wanted to point that out.
Now you Brits and French can go back to hating each other.![]()
I turned on my tv just now.
Five people playing one guitar on Ellen.
*shudder*

I must have missed the story behind this girl. What happened?

Yeah definitely looks different, maybe mine was the international edition, lighter on the brit-hate. ;)
Wow, that headline is clearly misleading. "GB finishes in third place with 65 medals"? Yeah, third place behind the U.S. and right after Russia's 82 medals. GB did place third in gold medals overall though.

Their online reader has both of them, but the one I posted seems to be the actual paper (22 pages), while the other one is an Olympic special or something (4p)?This was the front page of Le Monde the scathing article was from. Two editions? Wrap around cover?

Probably, quite a few publications have multiple editions.
I still find it pathetic that they then dedicated one cover to a negative economic editorial, and another cover to a scathing, accusatory article.
Would a single 'good job, good effort' kill them? Then continue the hate tomorrow.
Poor form IMO.
That's funny, because across two covers I see lots of criticism, very little praise and a handful of nasty accusations. Not the same newspaper, but Le Figaro has a motto :"Without the freedom to criticise, there is no true praise"
I know that, it's just that I find it suspicious that's all.I give the athletes the benefit of the doubt nevertheless.

BOO THOSE FRENCH ASSHOLES
Le Monde is the biggest French newspaper btw
In Thailand, papers focused on their country's own poor performance after athletes failed to bring home anything but silver and bronze despite winning gold medals at every Games since 1992. Meanwhile, in Malaysia, badminton silver medallist Chong Wei has been forced to apologise to Chinese rival Lin Dan over a controversial YouTube rap video in which the gold medal winner was denigrated as "cocky" and "on dope" before being warned by film-maker (and sometimes rapper) Namewee: "I see you one time, I beat you up one time."
What's everyone watching? Any new medals?

But keep defending them, because we wouldn't want the world to implode if you conceded that maybe, just maybe, they have an anti-British agenda.
Ha I love this part

You already nailed him and ruined his argument when you rightly observed that he went from claiming there was no negative press to (when proven wrong) defending said negativity.
http://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-withdraws-gold-medal-from-shot-put-athlete-nadzeya-ostapchuk/172684
- Ostapchuk of Belarus tested positive for banned steroid, disqualified and stripped of gold medal in women's shot put
- Gold medal awarded to Valerie Adams of New Zealand (go Kiwis!)
I remember seeing that match on tv, felt so sad for Chong Wei, the commentator called him the "Zidane of Malaysia" in terms of popularity.
You call it negativity, I call it journalism.
Calling it "negative press" is some feel good attack to avoid looking at problems.
Also anti-British agenda made me laugh, sorry there's no anti-British agenda.
I am starting to get the feeling your just trolling now, all the signs are there (ignoring anything you cant counter with glib bullshit for example).
You may end up like Korey.

It's easy to think anyone that doesn't think like you is trolling. He is, fact he still insists he isn't anti british proves that.
It just annoys me to think that anyone at all even thinks it's OK to drug themselves up knowingly and accept a medal, celebrate like mad and just rob....ah I dunno they might as well keep it anyway they rob another athlete of that moment
This shit has to be a joke because no one can be this fucking stupid.dear humanity, stop embarrassing me.

Korey was 100% patriotism posting, sorry I'm not like that at all.
Sorry I didn't read, saw, watched, heard any anti-British sentiment, just questions raised, like people raised questions for Beijing or other Olympics.
It's easy to think anyone that doesn't think like you is trolling.
Is this any different than the jibes people made at other countries throughout the Olympics?Except I don't think that, I think countless jibes and trolls against team GB means you're trolling. And so do a lot of other people here.

From what I can tell it was a bit of harmless fun with everyone else, as proven by it not being a recurring theme with anyone (not that I could tell anyway) obviously goes way deeper with Kurt though.

Long story short. She was pissed she lost the gold medal.
My final thoughts on the olympics:
decent...... i feel the ceremonies were only really strong for brit culture while the rest of the world didnt understand half of it
Theres nothing wrong with watching the Olympics particularly track and field with full awareness that most of the achievements being celebrated are not entirely human. In fact, thats the only reasonable approach for anyone with even a passing interest in these events.
I think the French media are upset because they missed out on the Olympics in 2008... 2012... 2018... maybe 2024, eh?
